Facial Emotion Recognition (FER) plays a crucial role in analysing and understanding individual's emotions in the form of non-verbal communication. Existing Deep Learning (DL) based FER methods offered diverse contribution in analysing human emotions but several challenges like extracting accurate spatial and temporal features for accurate classification of emotions is a major concern. To address this, a DL based Facial Recognition and Emotion Detection (FRED) system is proposed by using extended Cohn-Kanade (CK+) dataset as the input. The data is pre-processed first where the Histogram Equalization (HE) is applied and then Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is used to extract the spatial features while reducing the dimensionality. The extracted features are given to Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) to learn long term dependencies from a temporal sequence of data. The final classification is performed where the Attention Mechanism (AM) is integrated in the RNN to determine the higher weights for better outcome. The results of proposed AMConVnet-RNN showed a superior classification accuracy of 99.54%, precision of 98.63%, and f1-score of 97.39% when compared to existing FER methods like Residual Network-50 (ResNet-50) and Channel Based Attention Mechanism (CBAM) based ResNet50. © 2024 IEEE.

Zero-shot Semantic Segmentation (ZS3) is a challenging task that segments objects belonging to classes that are completely unseen during training. An established and intuitive approach is to formulate ZS3 as a combination of two subtasks where, at first, mask proposals are generated and then each pixel in those regions is assigned a class label. Most of the existing works struggle to generate masks with high generalization capability, which results in significant underperformance in unseen classes. In this connection, we propose the use of 'Dynamic Kernels' to help a ZS3 model better 'understand' the objects in the training phase by taking advantage of their inherent inductive biases to generate better mask proposals. They act as specialized agents that are updated based on their corresponding contents from the seen classes and then utilize that knowledge to understand unseen objects. The proposed pipeline also leverages the Contrastive Language-Image Pre-Training (CLIP) architecture to perform segment classification which further improves the generalization performance by exploiting its cross-modal training. Dynamic kernels go hand-in-hand with CLIP since it is able to process the granularity of CLIP from image level to pixel level resulting in performance improvement for both the seen and unseen classes. Our method, 'Zero-Shot dynamic Kernel Network' (ZSK-Net), outperforms the previous works by achieving +6.4h IoU on the Pascal VOC dataset. It also achieves state-of-the-art result on the COCO-Stuff dataset by +0.9h IoU on a single prompt setting. © 2023 IEEE.

Agriculture is the backbone of India's economy, supporting a large portion of the population and establishing the country as a key global player in food production. India ranks as the second-largest producer of both paddy and wheat. However, agricultural productivity is highly susceptible to various plant diseases, which can significantly reduce crop yields and quality. Paddy, one of the most important staple crops, is particularly vulnerable to diseases caused mainly by viral and bacterial related diseases. The climate conditions are also play a vital role in paddy plant diseases. This research work proposes a deep learning-based approach for early detection and classification of paddy diseases. The proposed research devises a hybrid model that combines the VGG19 and ResNet50 algorithms, the system analyses images of both healthy and disease-affected paddy leaves, sourced from the Kaggle repository. This research focuses on predicting four major paddy diseases that can cause yield losses of up to 80%, and in severe cases, can destroy an entire crop: (i) Paddy Blast, (ii) Bacterial Leaf Blight, (iii) Sheath Blight, and (iv) Ufra Disease. The proposed model achieves a high accuracy rate of 98% in predicting paddy diseases and offers a rapid classification process, showcasing the potential of advanced image processing and deep learning techniques to mitigate the impact of paddy plant diseases on agricultural productivity. © 2024 IEEE.

The rapid development of multi-modal large language models (MLLMs) has positioned visual storytelling as a crucial area in content creation. However, existing models often struggle to maintain temporal, spatial, and narrative coherence across image sequences and frequently lack the depth and engagement of human-authored stories. To address these challenges, we propose Story with Large Language and Vision Assistant (StoryLLaVA), a novel framework for enhancing visual storytelling. Our approach introduces a Topic-Driven Narrative Optimizer (TDNO) that improves both the training data and MLLM models by integrating image descriptions, topic generation, and GPT-4-based refinements. Furthermore, we employ a preference-based ranked story sampling method that aligns model outputs with human storytelling preferences through positive-negative pairing. These two phases of the framework differ in their training methods: the former uses supervised fine-tuning, while the latter incorporates reinforcement learning with positive and negative sample pairs. Experimental results demonstrate that StoryLLaVA outperforms current models in visual relevance, coherence, and fluency, with LLM-based evaluations confirming the generation of richer and more engaging narratives. Melanoma is a type of cancer known to be the most dangerous and is called the life threatening disease. Every year, there is rise in number of people being diagnosed with melanoma which is more frequent among the males than the females. This type of skin cancer has an uncontrollable growth of cells that can grow really faster, if not treated it can spread all over the body. Hence this disease needs to be detected at the early stages so that the patients can be treated properly. Machine learning approaches were applied to detect skin cancer but the drawbacks were that the performance to identify the cancer was limited. Therefore, we constructed a model by utilizing a Convolution Neural Network of the most advanced deep learning where we conduct investigations for discovering the melanoma skin cancer on the basis of the skin lesion. In this research, using transfer learning techniques ResNet and VGG based models have been brought together for melanoma skin detection. The procedures were applied to train these models using optimizers like RMSprop, Adam, Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD) and findings were presented with the support of accuracy, confusion matrix, sensitivity, specificity and precision. © 2023 IEEE.

In recent years, the emergence of the Internet and E-commerce has steered significant growth in digital transactions. Businesses today need mobile wallets, credit and debit cards, and e-cash to digitize payments. Digital payment systems are in transition and promise amazing advancements, but they also pose many risks and as the number of online transactions is increasing tremendously, we need a security system that follows all security norms. In this paper, we study digital transaction systems and evaluate various components of E-commerce plat-forms to address the security of these services. We evaluate the attributes that affect the security of digital payment processes and identify several barriers that hinder their performance to propose a simplified payment mechanism for micro-payments that eliminates the double payment problem. © 2023 IEEE.

Model heterogeneous federated learning (MHeteroFL) enables FL clients to collaboratively train models with heterogeneous structures in a distributed fashion. However, existing MHeteroFL methods rely on training loss to transfer knowledge between the client model and the server model, resulting in limited knowledge exchange. To address this limitation, we propose the Federated model heterogeneous Matryoshka Representation Learning (FedMRL) approach for supervised learning tasks. It adds an auxiliary small homogeneous model shared by clients with heterogeneous local models. (1) The generalized and personalized representations extracted by the two models' feature extractors are fused by a personalized lightweight representation projector. This step enables representation fusion to adapt to local data distribution. (2) The fused representation is then used to construct Matryoshka representations with multi-dimensional and multi-granular embedded representations learned by the global homogeneous model header and the local heterogeneous model header. This step facilitates multi-perspective representation learning and improves model learning capability. Theoretical analysis shows that FedMRL achieves a O(1/T) non-convex convergence rate. Extensive experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate its superior model accuracy with low communication and computational costs compared to seven state-of-the-art baselines. It achieves up to 8.48% and 24.94% accuracy improvement compared with the state-of-the-art and the best same-category baseline, respectively. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. The emergence of multi-access edge computing(MEC)aims at extending cloud computing capabilities to the edge of the radio access *** the large-scale internet of things(IoT)services are rapidly growing,a single edge infrastructure provider(EIP)may not be sufficient to handle the data traffic generated by these *** of the existing work addressed the computing resource shortage problem by optimizing tasks schedule,whereas others overcome such issue by placing computing resources on ***,when considering a multiple EIPs scenario,an urgent challenge is how to generate a coalition structure to maximize each EIP’s gain with a suitable price for computing resource block corresponding to a *** this end,we design a scheme of EIPs collaboration with a market price for containers under a scenario that considers a collection of service providers(SPs)with different budgets and several EIPs distributed in geographical ***,we bring in the net profit market price model to generate a more reasonable equilibrium price and select the optimal EIPs for each SP by a convex *** we use a mathematical model to maximize EIP’s profits and form stable coalitions between EIPs by a distributed coalition formation *** results demonstrate that our proposed collaborative scheme among EIPs enhances EIPs’gain and increases users’surplus.

Diffusion models benefit from instillation of task-specific information into the score function to steer the sample generation towards desired properties. Such information is coined as guidance. For example, in text-to-image synthesis, text input is encoded as guidance to generate semantically aligned images. Proper guidance inputs are closely tied to the performance of diffusion models. A common observation is that strong guidance promotes a tight alignment to the task-specific information, while reducing the diversity of the generated samples. In this paper, we provide the first theoretical study towards understanding the influence of guidance on diffusion models in the context of Gaussian mixture models. Under mild conditions, we prove that incorporating diffusion guidance not only boosts classification confidence but also diminishes distribution diversity, leading to a reduction in the differential entropy of the output distribution. Our analysis covers the widely adopted sampling schemes including those based on the SDE and ODE reverse processes, and leverages comparison inequalities for differential equations as well as the Fokker-Planck equation that characterizes the evolution of probability density function, which may be of independent theoretical interest.
