A 459 nm Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter(FADOF) working at the side wings of the cesium6S1∕2→ 7P1∕2transition with weak oscillator strength is achieved. The transmittance of the higher side wing reaches 98% at a temperature of 179°C and magnetic field above 323 G. The experimental results coincide with the theoretical predictions in 1982 and 1995, which were not realized in experiments for over three decades. Due to its high transmittance, high accuracy, and narrow linewidth, the 459 nm FADOF can be applied in underwater optical communications, the building of active optical clocks, and laser frequency stabilization in active optical clocks.

For meteor burst communications (MBC), although per-survivor processing (PSP) based on joint data and channel estimation provides superior performance and robustness for meteor burst communications (MBC), great computational complexity constrains its application in practice. On this occasion, a dimension-down PSP (D-PSP) algorithm and a adaptive state reduction of PSP (ASRP) algorithm are proposed to curve this problem in this paper. On the basis of this, the adaptive state reduction using a dimension-down PSP (ADPSP) is proposed to combine the advantages of D-PSP and ASRP, which reduces the computational time and memory size for exponentially decaying meteor burst channels and makes maximum likelihood sequence detection (MLSD) possible for adaptive data transmission. Simulation results are presented to validate the theoretical analysis. It is shown that deploying the proposed ADPSP algorithm can achieve a good tradeoff between performance and computational complexity dynamically, and provide reliable data transmission for MBC systems with adaptive coding and modulation.

HTTP Adaptive Streaming (HAS) adapts the video quality to the current network condition by switching between different quality layers. As HAS was shown to perform better than classical video streaming, it is becoming increasingly popular. Recent research showed that quality switch amplitude and time on layer have an impact on the Quality of Experience (QoE) of HAS. However, those studies focused only on adaptation between two layers so far. This work extends these findings by taking adaptation between three layers into account. Thereby, especially the impact of an intermediate layer on user perceived quality is investigated. Crowdsourcing experiments were conducted in order to collect subjective ratings for adaptation between three layers. The results indicate that the quality of each layer and the time on each layer are important QoE parameters. This encourages the usage of temporal pooling approaches for QoE prediction and QoE-aware traffic management. Therefore, mean pooling of per-frame metrics will be applied and its performance will be validated with the subjective crowdsourcing results.

The transition from classic combustion engine vehicles to electric vehicles is a major step to reduce worldwide CO_2 emissions. In order to correctly and efficiently investigate impacts on the electric grid and the dimensioning of charging infrastructure, or to explore new technologies for a further increase of the driving range, realistic simulation models are required. In this paper, we present an accurate yet computationally inexpensive battery and kinematic model to be used in microscopic traffic simulation to help study the performance of thousands of electric vehicles. Our model also supports recuperation and range extender modules while only relying on the vehicle's speed and a set of constant predefined parameters. It can therefore be easily coupled with current sophisticated traffic simulators. We show its applicability and correctness regarding the State of Charge and power flows using comprehensive real-life experiments.
