Improving insulation performance with woven flax/PP hybrid composite reinforced by synthetic alumina and aluminum trihydrate

The addition of microparticles of aluminum trihydrate (ATH) and alumina (AL) to flax-based polypropylene (PP) composites enhances their mechanical strength and fire resistance. The composite materials were produced via the vacuum bagging technique. Various weight ratios of fillers (ATH & AL) to polypropylene were obtained through the process of ultrasonication (3, 6, 9, and 12 wt%). The mechanical properties of the hybrid composites were thoroughly evaluated, including their thermal conductivity, flammability, flexural and tensile strengths, and moisture absorption. Based on XRD analysis, it has been determined that the flax composite contained AL and ATH microparticles. The research indicates that the use of additional synthetic fillers in the flax-based composite reduces both the burning and moisture absorption rates, in comparison to typical flax/PP composites. The incorporation of a hybrid composite consisting of 9 wt % AL and 3 wt % ATH results in a 10.36% enhancement in tensile strength and a 3.21% improvement in flexural strength. The improved interfacial bonding strength between the fibers and resin can be attributed to the uniform dissemination of ATH/AL particles. The stress transfer rate will be enhanced as a result of the efficient cross-linking it produces. This was verified by the utilization of scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The AL/ATH hybrid composites possess a thermal conductivity of 0.0596 W/mk as an additional characteristic. The thermal insulation property of the composites remains unaffected by the presence of flame retardant AL and ATH particles, as their thermal conductivity is below 0.065 W/mk. These composites are suitable for applications in the automotive, aerospace, and construction sectors, where lightweight, durable, and fire-resistant materials are needed for interior panels, insulation materials, and structural components. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

In the digital era, the rapid dissemination of false information has emerged as a formidable challenge, undermining the credibility of online platforms and posing a threat to informed public discourse. Addressing this issue, our research introduces innovative enhancements to Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) architectures, aimed at bolstering the efficiency and accuracy of false information detection mechanisms. Leveraging the inherent strengths of GRU and LSTM models in capturing temporal dependencies within data, our proposed modifications incorporate adaptive learning rates and a novel hybrid attention mechanism. These enhancements facilitate a more nuanced understanding of the contextual and stylistic nuances characteristic of false information, thereby significantly improving the models' predictive performance. Through extensive experimentation on a diverse dataset comprising various forms of digital content, our findings reveal that the enhanced GRU and LSTM architectures outperform existing models in terms of detection accuracy, while simultaneously reducing computational overhead. This advancement in deep learning techniques represents a pivotal step towards more reliable and efficient false information detection, with potential applications spanning across social media platforms, news outlets, and beyond. Our research not only contributes to the academic discourse on natural language processing and misinformation studies but also offers practical solutions for safeguarding the integrity of information in the digital landscape. © 2024 IEEE.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are essential for collecting and transmitting data in modern applications that rely on data, where effective network connectivity and coverage are crucial. The optimal placement of router nodes within WSNs is a fundamental challenge that significantly impacts network performance and reliability. Researchers have explored various approaches using metaheuristic algorithms to address these challenges and optimize WSN performance. This paper introduces a new hybrid algorithm, CFL-PSO, based on combining an enhanced Fick’s Law algorithm with comprehensive learning and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). CFL-PSO exploits the strengths of these techniques to strike a balance between network connectivity and coverage, ultimately enhancing the overall performance of WSNs. We evaluate the performance of CFL-PSO by benchmarking it against nine established algorithms, including the conventional Fick’s law algorithm (FLA), Sine Cosine Algorithm (SCA), Multi-Verse Optimizer (MVO), Salp Swarm Optimization (SSO), War Strategy Optimization (WSO), Harris Hawk Optimization (HHO), African Vultures Optimization Algorithm (AVOA), Capuchin Search Algorithm (CapSA), Tunicate Swarm Algorithm (TSA), and PSO. The algorithm’s performance is extensively evaluated using 23 benchmark functions to assess its effectiveness in handling various optimization scenarios. Additionally, its performance on WSN router node placement is compared against the other methods, demonstrating its competitiveness in achieving optimal solutions. These analyses reveal that CFL-PSO outperforms the other algorithms in terms of network connectivity, client coverage, and convergence speed. To further validate CFL-PSO’s effectiveness, experimental studies were conducted using different numbers of clients, routers, deployment areas, and transmission ranges. Hearing loss or hearing impairment is one of the most leading cause highly affecting the people around the world in present days. Additionally, this disease primarily affects children and adults, which has an impact on their daily lives, careers, education, and other aspects of their lives. Therefore, it has to be correctly identified and diagnosed so that early therapies can be given to save people's lives. The many kinds of automated hearing loss prediction/detection systems are created for this aim in conventional works. The majority of the current research focuses on applying prediction techniques based on machine learning and deep learning to diagnose diseases. Its shortcomings include challenging computational procedures, longer training and testing times, greater mis-prediction outcomes, and incorrect outputs. Therefore, the proposed work objects to develop a Human Age - Hearing Impairment & Level (HAHIL) prediction system by using the machine learning methodologies. In this study, we describe a computer-aided strategy to forecast hearing loss and then prevent it. Here, three distinct prediction models are deployed for age prediction, hearing loss detection, and its severity level prediction. The Biased Probability Neural Network (BPNN) technique is utilized to predict the age based on simulated human acoustical signals. Then, the Regularized Extreme Learning Machine (RELM) mechanism is deployed for predicting the hearing impairment by constructing the weight and target matrices. During evaluation, the performance of the proposed HAHIL prediction system is validated and tested by using various evaluation indicators. The effectiveness of our computer-aided hearing loss prediction methods has been proven to be very high and they can be applied to the actual application system. Also, it provides an increased accuracy up to 99%, which is highly superior than the existing prediction models. © 2023 Multidiscip. Sci. J. All rights reserved.

The conducted research aims to develop a computer vision system for a small-sized mobile humanoid robot. The decentralization of the servomotor control and the computer vision systems is investigated based on the hardware solution point of view, moreover, the required software level to achieve an efficient matched design is obtained. A computer vision system using the upgraded tiny-You Only Look Once (YOLO) network model is developed to allow recognizing and identifying objects and making decisions on interacting with them, which is recommended for crowd environment. During the research, a concept of a computer vision system was developed, which describes the interaction between the main elements, on the basis of which hardware modules were selected to implement the task. A structure of information interaction between hardware modules is proposed, and a connection scheme is developed, on the basis of which a model of a computer vision system is assembled for research, with the required algorithmic and software for solving the problem. To ensure the high speed of the computer vision system based on the ESP32-CAM module, the neural network was improved by replacing the Visual Geometry Group 16 (VGG-16) network as the base network for extracting the functions of the Single Shot Detector (SSD) network model with the tiny-YOLO lightweight network model, which made it possible to preserve the multidimensional structure of the network model feature graph, resulting in increasing the detection accuracy, while significantly reducing the amount of calculations generated by the network operation, thereby significantly increasing the detection speed, due to a limited set of objects. Finally, a number of experiments were carried out, both in static and dynamic environments, which showed a high accuracy of identifications. © The author(s) 2025.

Developing ultra-low-power devices requires low-power components, algorithms, and communication protocols. For environmental monitoring along the supply chain, products may travel a long way from the distributor to the customer. In addition, extreme climatic circumstances, such as temperatures below 0°C, affect battery capacity. In order to monitor package's environment, it is crucial to ensure that all embedded system parts use as little energy as possible. This paper addresses how much power the SPI and I2C communication protocols use. These protocols are widely used in low-power embedded devices for sensor communication. Based on its results, this research article presented recommendations for developing ultra-low power embedded devices that use the SPI/I2C protocol. © 2023 MIPRO Croatian Society.

Automatic Timbre Transformation using Enhanced Diffusion Model

We present a novel timbre transfer model that uses an enhanced diffusion architecture to convert music from various instruments into Erhu timbre. The Erhu, a traditional Chinese instrument, is difficult to simulate due to its rich vibrato and smooth note transitions. Existing Musical Instrument Digital Interface systems struggle to capture its nuanced dynamics. Our model integrates a Pitch Encoder, a Loudness Encoder, and a Diffusion Decoder. The encoders extract pitch features and dynamic loudness variations, guiding the decoder in generating realistic Erhu timbre. By extracting general musical features, the system generalizes to unseen input types without retraining. Evaluations based on pitch accuracy, cosine similarity, and Fréchet Audio Distance show that our model achieves 96% pitch accuracy and high fidelity in Erhu timbre reproduction. This study demonstrates the potential of diffusion-based timbre transfer models in music generation and provides new directions for future work on both music generation and timbre transfer. © 2013 IEEE.
