Convolutional Neural Networks for Scops Owl Sound Classification

Adopting a deep learning model into bird sound classification tasks becomes a common practice in order to construct a robust automated bird sound detection system. In this paper, we employ a four-layer Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) formulated to classify different species of Indonesia scops owls based on their vocal sounds. Two widely used representations of an acoustic signal: log-scaled mel-spectrogram and Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC) are extracted from each sound file and fed into the network separately to compare the model performance with different inputs. A more complex CNN that can simultaneously process the two extracted acoustic representations is proposed to provide a direct comparison with the baseline model. The dual-input network is the well-performing model in our experiment that achieves 97.55% Mean Average Precision (MAP). Meanwhile, the baseline model achieves a MAP score of 94.36% for the mel-spectrogram input and 96.08% for the MFCC input.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) systems are being increasingly used in a broad range of applications requiring extensive communications either to interconnect the UAVs with each other or to connect them with Ground Control Stations (GCS). Due to the complexity and difficulty of performing long distance experiments with these robots, simulation becomes a viable and necessary alternative. However, focusing either on the modeling of UAV operations or communication dynamics, available simulation tools are not able to capture the complex interdependencies between these two aspects, especially in applications where extensive communications are required. The main contribution of this work is the modeling and implementation of strategies for enhancing connectivity of a UAV performing long-distance navigation tasks, taking into account applications' requirements. The proposed strategies aim at assessing the impact of frequent handovers between wireless access points in terms of packet loss and available bandwidth. The first strategy prioritizes maintaining a connection until the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) observed by the robot reaches a predefined threshold. For this, it is assumed that the data to be transmitted is small enough so that the robot may change its modulation to obtain smaller bandwidths while improving connection time. The second one prioritizes bandwidth availability, thus, it always searches for a network that is able to offer data rates higher than a minimum threshold. A hybrid model is validated by considering the characteristics of each individual strategy. The capabilities of the simulation tool designed for this work are illustrated through some case-study scenarios. © 2021 IEEE.

Learning to assemble geometric shapes into a larger target structure is a pivotal task in various practical applications. In this work, we tackle this problem by establishing local correspondences between point clouds of part shapes in both coarse- and fine-levels. To this end, we introduce Proxy Match Transform (PMT), an approximate high-order feature transform layer that enables reliable matching between mating surfaces of parts while incurring low costs in memory and computation. Building upon PMT, we introduce a new framework, dubbed Proxy Match TransformeR (PMTR), for the geometric assembly task. We evaluate the proposed PMTR on the large-scale 3D geometric shape assembly benchmark dataset of Breaking Bad and demonstrate its superior performance and efficiency compared to state-of-the-art methods. With an increasing interest in the digitization effort of ancient manuscripts, ancient character recognition becomes one of the most important areas in the automated document image analysis. In this regard, we propose a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)-based classifier to recognize the ancient Sundanese characters obtained from a digital collection of Southeast Asian palm leaf manuscripts. In this work, we utilize two different preprocessing techniques for the dataset. The first technique involves the use of geometric transformations, noise background addition, and brightness adjustment to augment the imbalanced samples to be fed into the classifier. The second technique makes use of the Otsu’s threshold method to binarize the characters and only uses the usual geometric transformations for the data augmentation. The proposed network with different data augmentation processes is trained on the training set and tested on the testing set. Image binarization from the second technique can outperform the performance of the CNN-based classifier upon the first technique by achieving a testing accuracy of 97.74%.

With the advancement of technology, information systems have become increasingly necessary in almost all areas, including healthcare. One of the technologies used to facilitate this progress is electronic medical records (EMRs). Although EMRs have improved service delivery and patient care in healthcare, they also pose risks to patient data due to cybercrime attacks, which can result in data theft and alteration of medical records. Medical identity theft has become a major issue in healthcare systems around the world, While technology has been beneficial in improving service delivery and patient care in healthcare, it has also introduced numerous risks to patient safety and ultimately impacted patient health. Cybersecurity issues have advanced with technology, thus increasing the rate at which medical identity thefts occur. The healthcare industry lags in curbing cybersecurity issues, and thus, it is vulnerable to many cyberattacks. To address these risks, techniques, and methods are needed to ensure the security of EMR systems against cybercrime attacks. This study used a literature review method and identified eleven articles that met inclusion and exclusion criteria. Through analysis of these articles, several techniques and methods were identified to secure the privacy system in EMRs, such as mIBE-AES, DES, and RSA methods. The literature review revealed that Encryption Data is the safest technique to use, as it is standardized, widely accessible, and cost-effective. Furthermore, mIBE-AES is the safest method for EMRs because it is both secure and efficient for storing medical record documents. Performance evaluations were conducted to test the level of security against cybercrime attacks.

Social network platforms currently face unforeseen challenges that slow down their growth. A study by Xie and Tsai (2020) revealed that one of the largest social media sites, Facebook, has encountered user shrinkage. While according to Li et al.(2018), not only Facebook but some other social media platforms also have indicated a sharp slowdown in the number of users and experienced a drop in the amount of user engagement. For this reason, this study aims to better understand the role of social presence in human-computer mediated interactions. Data from 473 college students from 2 to 10 semesters completed the online survey. Amos 25 was used to test the constructs of variable social presence, social connectedness, attitude, and intention to continue using social media. While Hayes Macro Process version 3.5 was used to test the proposed model. The results showed that social presence has a relationship toward intention to continue using social networks directly and indirectly through attitude. Moreover, social connectedness has proven to positively moderate the relationship between social presence and intention to continue using social networks and positively moderates the relationship between attitude and intention to continue using social networks. © 2022, The Authors. multidisciplinary collaboration between public health, system engineering, and UX is able to generate a solution in healthcare problem like stunting. The principle of Agile UX gathers requirements to generate an application design. Currently, various website and mobile applications are available to be utilized for stunting research. StuntingDB is one of many web-based applications that specialized in stunting data management. The application required several types of users to operate hierarchically. This research focused on Public Health Officers’ workflow that require a solution to in the form of assessment module for stunting DBMS by using Agile UX principle. The method collaborates agile team and UX team to solve Public Health Officer's difficulty in changing stunting status at pre-saved child patient's profile. Collaboration of both agile team and UX team successfully proposed an application design that system design.

Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) are integral components of e-healthcare systems, responsible for monitoring patients' physiological states through intelligent implantable or wearable sensor nodes. These nodes collect medical data, which is then transmitted to remote healthcare facilities for thorough evaluation. Securing medical data within WBANs is paramount due to its central role in preserving patient privacy and confidentiality. Notably, Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals have recently gained prominence as pivotal elements within diverse security frameworks. Incorporating ECG signals strategically enhances the security and reliability of WBANs and broader e-healthcare systems, instilling greater trustworthiness. This survey article provides an in-depth exploration of contemporary ECG-based security schemes, adding to the scholarly discourse. The imperative to categorize these security paradigms revolves around their use of ECG signals. This categorization identifies three key domains: the first involves schemes that utilize ECG signals for cryptographic operations, encompassing key generation, agreement, management, and authentication. The second category employs steganography-based techniques, using ECG signals to conceal patients' sensitive medical data. The third category focuses on enhancing ECG signal security during data transmission. Each category is meticulously elaborated, detailing architectural foundations, notable contributions, and intrinsic security services. Furthermore, each section presents a comprehensive overview of the attributes characterizing ECG-based security frameworks. This includes insights into employed datasets, simulation environments, evaluation metrics, and inherent advantages and limitations. Expanding on this, a thorough analysis of distinctive attributes underpinning these security frameworks concludes by shedding light on potential directions for future research. © 2023 Elsevier Inc.

We have been developing MEIMAT (MEiji Microprocessor Architecture Design Tools). The MEIMAT is essentially designed to be able to represent any instruction of various processors by the MEIMAT meta-instruction in two ways of semantic and functional expressions. In this paper, we have verified the RISC-V support to the MEIMAT, and have improved so that MEIMAT further supports RISC-V. First, we have verified whether the RISC-V instructions can be expressed by the MEIMAT semantic expression. It is also verified that the functional expression is automatically generated from the semantic instruction, and the corresponding correct circuit diagrams are generated in the MEIMAT instruction visualization tool. Then, we have newly developed a stage configuration mechanism to implement the RISC-V instructions. Because the RISC-V architecture is implemented by 4 or 5 processing stages in most actual processors. To develop further an easy-to-understand design tool, we have also introduced illustration windows for RISC-V specified hardware modules such as a register file, especially a status register in the instruction visualization tool. Finally, through these verifications and improvements, we have successfully confirmed that the 43 instructions in the RISCV (RV32I) instructions set of the RISC-V architecture can be converted into MEIMAT meta-instructions, and then they can be represented as circuit diagrams with the RISC-V stage configuration in the MEIMAT instruction visualization tool.

After Large-Scale Social Restriction (PSBB) established in Jakarta, a change of air quality was indicated by the citizens. Representatives of Indonesia's Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) supported as the fact that mobility of Jakarta's citizen and commuters were reduced. With utilizing Weather Data Acquisition System managed by BMKG, this research compared fluctuations of Jakarta's air quality during two periods of time: Pre-PSBB and During-PSBB. This study proved that Jakarta's air quality has positively improved compared to the previous year, although in the lower range of unhealthy level. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
