Understanding drug-drug interactions (DDIs) can benefit us by enhancing drug effectiveness and preventing side effects that arise from consuming multiple drugs administered together. However, as the number of novel drugs increases, predicting potential DDIs becomes more challenging. Previous studies have used the molecular language model ChemBERTa to predict potential DDIs, but the predictions were only tested on unseen drugs and not dissimilar drugs, while also performing poorly. In this study, we demonstrate that a simple molecular preprocessing method using BRICS decomposition can enhance ChemBERTa robustness in predicting potential DDIs for unseen-dissimilar drugs. Specifically, we employ fragmentation with a minimum fragment size of 5 (BRICS-5), which balances the number of fragments and decomposition speed. Using this method, we were able to improve ChemBERTa robustness, reflected by an approximate increase of 1.5% in recall and 2.2% in the f1-score compared to non-decomposed molecules. Our findings suggest that this preprocessing method could be useful in the development of future AI-based approaches for solving challenging molecular tasks across different settings and various model architectures. © 2024 IEEE.

One of the most popular technologies nowadays is augmented reality (AR). popular technologies in various industries. Many industries have adopted this AR technology, one of which is with the aim of marketing the products offered to their customers. With more and more adopting this technology, retailers are also using it. The goal of this research is to determine out what important variables are often encountered in the application of AR technology. A qualitative technique is used in this study, as well as a Systematic Literature Review Prism approach. The result are 56 papers, 35 candidate papers and 26 papers were selected. We examine where and how in retail, augmented reality (AR) is used, the aspects of Augmented reality technology that are frequently examined, and the psychological and behavioral effects that AR can have. © 2022 IEEE.

High availability (HA) in MySQL databases remains a critical challenge, particularly due to risks such as single point of failure (SPOF) and limited scalability in existing setups. Previous studies have explored various approaches to address these issues. One study implemented ProxySQL and Orchestrator for query routing and failover but relied on a single server instance, creating a SPOF that could disrupt client access during failures. Another study implemented HAProxy to balance traffic and couple database servers with specific web applications. While effective for certain use cases, this approach reduced resource efficiency and scalability, because it relies on HTTP protocol and database server are coupled to each application, making it less suitable for dynamic, shared environments requiring high flexibility. These limitations highlight the need for a more robust and scalable HA solution. This paper proposes an improved HA architecture that eliminates SPOFs and enhances scalability by combining redundant ProxySQL instances synchronized with Keepalived managed Virtual IP (VIP) and automated failover using Orchestrator. The architecture allows shared database resources across multiple applications while decoupling them from specific application servers. Test results confirm the system's ability to maintain seamless failover, consistent query routing, and uninterrupted client access through dynamic Virtual IP reassignment to backup server. By addressing the issues of previous studies, this solution provides a practical and scalable framework to achieve high availability in the MySQL cluster by combing ProxySQL, Orchestrator, and Keepalived, making it suitable for modern enterprise environments.

Dynamic Terrain Data Exchange in a Collaborative Terrain Editor

In a computer supported cooperative work (CSCW), data consistency between collaborating users is a crucial issue. Based on the type of the application, ensuring data consistency can be a lengthy process that takes time and affects the system’s performance. In most 3D application, terrain data are massive due to its size. Exchanging this data may be expensive and may cause significant delay. In a real-time collaborative terrain editor, this issue becomes more significant due to terrain data exchange is consistently occurred between collaborating users. We present a solution to perform a conflict-free dynamic terrain data exchange in a real-time collaborative terrain editor. Our objective is to develop a method that able to ensure data consistency amongst collaborating peers in real-time manner. The main idea of our method is to split the terrain into smaller patches and synchronize the changes efficiently by only exchanging the modified patches. We applied our solution to a collaborative terrain editor application to test its performance in a real-time collaborative editing session. The tests were done in multiple scenarios, using different patch model, brush size (in the terrain editor), and connection setup between server and collaborating clients. The result shows that our protocol is capable to maintain data consistency between collaborating clients in a real-time terrain edition session. The delay is varied and highly depends on the data size and client-server environment setup. The overall test shows that it is possible to perform a collaborative terrain editing with an acceptable response time delay. In this paper, we present our proposed method, the implementation, and the result data from the test. © 2022 Slovene Society Informatika. All rights reserved.

This research explores the optimization of digital talent in advanced industries, particularly in the context of rapid digital transformation. Despite the increasing importance of digital talent for gaining a competitive edge, several challenges persist. In Indonesia, for example, there is a significant shortage of digitally skilled workers, with the World Bank reporting a gap of 9 million skilled individuals over the past 15 years. Additionally, artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to impact 9.5 million jobs, further exacerbating the demand for digital skills. Furthermore, the employability of graduates remains low, largely due to inadequate training, poor language proficiency, and limited cultural sensitivity. Many companies face difficulties in finding qualified individuals, quickly upskilling their workforce, and fostering an innovative organizational culture. This study seeks to evaluate the factors influencing digital talent performance in the context of these challenges. It examines seven key variables: digital readiness, digital technology adoption, relevance of AI, digital skills, individual performance, problem-solving ability, and overall digital talent performance. Hypotheses were tested using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Data was collected from 378 participants, primarily students with STEM backgrounds, in the Jabodetabek area of Indonesia in November 2024. The findings reveal that all hypotheses are significant, with results indicating that user satisfaction and the perceived value of digital talent in Indonesia have a notable impact on continued usage intentions in digital roles.

Quantifying the effect of mutations in the BRCA1 gene is useful for understanding their clinical consequences on breast cancer. Machine learning models can be applied to predict the landscape of protein variant effects that might not be always accessible by experiments. In this work, we propose a simple semi-supervised learning method using a Gaussian mixture model to predict ~90% of the unlabeled missense variants of the BRCA1 gene collected from the ClinVar database. High-quality embeddings are used as a feature of the protein sequences, extracted using the latest pre-trained transformer-based language protein model. A statistical test show that the protein embeddings are effective and robust for predicting pathogenicity. Further, the lower representations of the features are then fed into the semi-supervised model. The prediction performance of the model only for the labeled testing data achieves an AUC score and an accuracy of 79.27% and 71.58%, respectively. Using our defined pathogenic probability score, we find that ~94% of variants in our unlabeled dataset are well-separated into either benign or pathogenic classes according to that scoring. Our scores obtain a moderate Spearman rank correlation with the results of established unsupervised variant effect models. Finally, our approach can potentially be developed for more accurate and biologically reliable predictions of the variant effects. © 2023 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

White rice stem borer pest detection system using image-based convolution neural network

Preventing agricultural resource loss caused by pests remains a crucial issue. While technological advancements are being achieved, the current agricultural management methods and equipment have yet to meet the required level for precise pest control, a huge portion of the pest population analysis process is still conducted manually. As a solution to this issue, the development of a White Rice Stem Borer pest detection system has been conducted by applying Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) technology to calculate the pest population count at the research location. This system has been specifically designed to detect the White Rice Stem Borer using available traps. The method involves training data from a direct dataset obtained from the field, categorized into two positive and negative classes of the White Stem Borer pests. Six models have been trained from this dataset, utilizing two different architectures. Out of the six trained models, four showed potential overfitting, one exhibited underfitting, and one model demonstrated optimal results. The highest accuracy in image detection achieved by the most optimal CNN model was 97.35%, with a training accuracy of 98.54%. This best-performing model utilized an architecture with three Convolution layers, 50 Epochs, and an automatic data split with an 80:20 training-validation data ratio. From the research findings, it is concluded that this study can assist in automatically analyzing the quantity of White Stem Borer pests in a specific area without directly counting the number of pests from existing traps. However, the study still encounters a limitation—the detection process still requires substantial server resources and cannot be directly processed on the Raspberry PI device installed in the trap. Consequently, the detection relies on transmitting image data from the field device to the server before the detection process can occur.

The growing focus on microcredentials emphasizes the urgent need for precise and widely accepted definitions, as existing uncertainties hinder their effective implementation. This research aims to investigate the comprehension of microcredentials definitions in the context of higher education by conducting a systematic literature review. The goal is to identify current definitions of microcredentials to facilitate standardization initiatives. Following The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methodology to systematically search in Scopus database within 2019-2024 resulting $\mathbf{9 4 0}$ articles, by removing the duplicates, $\mathbf{2 8 0}$ articles were initially reviewed, with 29 selected for detailed thematic analysis based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. By adapting the six phases of thematic analysis, selected articles were identified analyzed, organized, described, and themes found the data set were reported. Key findings reveal that, while a universally accepted definition is lacking, common themes emerge: microcredentials are competency-based, modular, portable, stackable, and often include quality assurance. These attributes highlight microcredentials as valuable for upskilling and reskilling in a flexible manner. The study concludes that establishing standard definitions can increase the recognition and utility of microcredentials across educational and professional sectors and recommends further research to strengthen core elements for consistency.

In this study, the utilization of social media platforms was investigated out of three well-known Czech television stations using daily-based data on the Instagram official accounts of the stations, which involves a lengthy sample period from July 2021 to August 2022. The main contribution of this paper is that the study is a novel examination of Czech Republic television stations on the popular image-sharing social media while taking into account trend and entertainment conditions, and their presentability over different content and messages. The results indicate that several content strategy patterns such as how snapshots of TV program sets can produce a significant positive engagement from fans of the programs over certain parts of the shows. In addition, the results show that none of the content posted on the accounts which were examined contained a low-quality image. However, without considering trends and entertainment conditions, this study finds that social media is another media over digital spaces that has superior benefits if it is applied as an extension media for the television industry. The robustness of our results is confirmed based on qualitative analysis and several television stations samples. The findings of this study are beneficial for the social media practitioners engaged in the practice of diverse social media. © 2023 IEEE.

As the dengue infection still impacts hundreds of millions of people globally, unprecedented efforts in dengue drug development have been more progressive in recent decades. Computational methods provide a fast, sustainable, and efficient screening of active compounds and newly created drug molecules, including those specifically targeting nonstructural proteins (NS) of dengue viruses. In this work, protein modeling for the NS proteins of DENV-2/16681 strain was performed using a template-based homology modeling for the NS3 protein and an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based prediction via AlphaFold for the NS4B protein. Moreover, the protein-protein interaction between the two structures was predicted using the HADDOCK server, which employs information about active and passive residues of the interaction interface to guide the docking process. After the modeling and its respective refinement process, the predicted structures of NS3 and NS4B improved their steric clashing scoring from MolProbity assessment. The refined models were then docked, and the resulting docking pose was analyzed to extract the interacting residues based on the polar contacts within the interface of the two proteins. Our result presents a preliminary study to create a dataset related to in silico molecular interactions of the NS3-NS4B interaction of different DENV types. It is helpful for building a computational pipeline for elucidating protein-ligand problems in dengue drug screenings. © 2024 The Authors.
