Human digital twin (HDT) is envisioned as a system interconnecting physical twins (PTs) in the real world with virtual twins (VTs) in the digital world, enabling advanced human-centric applications. In this paper, we study an optimization of quality of experience (QoE) aware multimodal signal transmission, particularly focusing on joint visual and haptic signal feed-back transmissions from VT to its PT, for providing immersive interactions in HDT. To evaluate a synthesized performance of both visual and haptic experiences, we design a comprehensive QoE model, taking into account the video quality, continuous video quality switching rate and average haptic feedback error. Then, to maximize such QoE with a particular guarantee on synchronization between visual and haptic signal transmissions, we dynamically optimize the bandwidth allocation, bitrate and rendering mode of the video, and haptic signal's compression threshold. To this end, we propose a deep reinforcement learning based algorithm, called VisHap, which can produce an adaptive solution. Furthermore, we build an HDT multimodal interactions platform for collecting an authentic dataset, and by using it, we conduct experiments, showing that VisHap is not only feasible but also outperforms the counterparts.

An Aggregation of Aggregation Methods in Computational Pathology

image analysis and machine learning algorithms operating on multi-gigapixel whole-slide images (WSIs) often process a large number of tiles (sub-images) and require aggregating predictions from the tiles in order to predict WSI-level labels. In this paper, we present a review of existing literature on various types of aggregation methods with a view to help guide future research in the area of computational pathology (CPath). We propose a general CPath workflow with three pathways that consider multiple levels and types of data and the nature of computation to analyse WSIs for predictive modelling. We categorize aggregation methods according to the context and representation of the data, features of computational modules and CPath use cases. We compare and contrast different methods based on the principle of multiple instance learning, perhaps the most commonly used aggregation method, covering a wide range of CPath literature. To provide a fair comparison, we consider a specific WSI-level prediction task and compare various aggregation methods for that task. Finally, we conclude with a list of objectives and desirable attributes of aggregation methods in general, pros and cons of the various approaches, some recommendations and possible future directions. © 2022, CC BY.

Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) holds significant importance in clinical diagnosis and neuroscience research. However, conventional model-based fitting methods often suffer from sensitivity to noise, leading to decreased accuracy in estimating DTI parameters. While traditional data-driven deep learning methods have shown potential in terms of accuracy and efficiency, their limited generalization to out-of-training-distribution data impedes their broader application due to the diverse scan protocols used across centers, scanners, and studies. This work aims to tackle these challenges and promote the use of DTI by introducing a data-driven optimization-based method termed DoDTI. DoDTI combines the weighted linear least squares fitting algorithm and regularization by denoising technique. The former fits DW images from diverse acquisition settings into diffusion tensor field, while the latter applies a deep learning-based denoiser to regularize the diffusion tensor field instead of the DW images, which is free from the limitation of fixed-channel assignment of the network. The optimization object is solved using the alternating direction method of multipliers and then unrolled to construct a deep neural network, leveraging a data-driven strategy to learn network parameters. Extensive validation experiments are conducted utilizing both internally simulated datasets and externally obtained in-vivo datasets. The results, encompassing both qualitative and quantitative analyses, showcase that the proposed method attains state-of-the-art performance in DTI parameter estimation. Notably, it demonstrates superior generalization, accuracy, and efficiency, rendering it highly reliable for widespread application in the field. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

AEMIM: Adversarial Examples Meet Masked image Modeling

Masked image modeling (MIM) has gained significant traction for its remarkable prowess in representation learning. As an alternative to the traditional approach, the reconstruction from corrupted images has recently emerged as a promising pretext task. However, the regular corrupted images are generated using generic generators, often lacking relevance to the specific reconstruction task involved in pre-training. Hence, reconstruction from regular corrupted images cannot ensure the difficulty of the pretext task, potentially leading to a performance decline. Moreover, generating corrupted images might introduce an extra generator, resulting in a notable computational burden. To address these issues, we propose to incorporate adversarial examples into masked image modeling, as the new reconstruction targets. Adversarial examples, generated online using only the trained models, can directly aim to disrupt tasks associated with pre-training. Therefore, the incorporation not only elevates the level of challenge in reconstruction but also enhances efficiency, contributing to the acquisition of superior representations by the model. In particular, we introduce a novel auxiliary pretext task that reconstructs the adversarial examples corresponding to the original images. We also devise an innovative adversarial attack to craft more suitable adversarial examples for MIM pre-training. It is noted that our method is not restricted to specific model architectures and MIM strategies, rendering it an adaptable plug-in capable of enhancing all MIM methods. Experimental findings substantiate the remarkable capability of our approach in amplifying the generalization and robustness of existing MIM methods. Adversarial semantic contour for object detection

Modern object detectors are vulnerable to adversarial examples, which brings potential risks to numerous applications, e.g., self-driving car. Among attacks regularized by lp norm, l0-attack aims to modify as few pixels as possible. Nevertheless, the problem is nontrivial since it generally requires to optimize the shape along with the texture simultaneously, which is an NP-hard problem. To address this issue, we propose a novel method of Adversarial Semantic Contour (ASC) guided by object contour as prior. With this prior, we reduce the searching space to accelerate the l0 optimization, and also introduce more semantic information which should affect the detectors more. Based on the contour, we optimize the selection of modified pixels via sampling and their colors with gradient descent alternately. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed ASC outperforms the most commonly manually designed patterns (e.g., square patches and grids) on task of disappearing. By modifying no more than 5% and 3.5% of the object area respectively, our proposed ASC can successfully mislead the mainstream object detectors including the SSD512, Yolov4, Mask RCNN, Faster RCNN, etc. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. Photovoltaic (PV) system fault diagnosis is crucial because it helps PV system operators reduce energy and income losses. It also decreases the risk of fire and electric shock from PV system failures. Thus, the implementation of fault diagnosis tool is required. The most well-known techniques are machine learning models. Although these techniques provided well in terms of diagnosis and classification accuracy, they rely on manual feature extraction, which is time consuming, expensive, and requires diagnostic skill. Manual feature extraction is a problem that has to be addressed. This paper therefore presents a PV system fault diagnosis techniques that can automatically extract features from raw data in order to classify PV system faults. The implemented methods include long short-term memory (LSTM) bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) networks, which are deep learning based algorithms. Finally, the presented fault diagnosis approaches showed a good diagnosis performances when applied to an emulated GCPV system. © 2022 IEEE.

As a critical strategic tool within the framework of the digital economy (DE), artificial intelligence (AI) plays a crucial role in realizing an AI-assisted economy. This novel paradigm has gained widespread acceptance from governments globally, positioning itself as a cornerstone in the practical implementation of the DE. The increasing reliance on digital means for economic transformation, the treatment of data as a critical resource, and the integration of information technologies highlight the synergy between AI and the DE. Against this backdrop, online reviews and SA play a pivotal role, offering rich data streams continually emerging on various platforms. Therefore, this article utilizes a probabilistic linguistic term set (PLTS) to establish a multi-granularity probabilistic linguistic (MG-PL) information system. This approach, through sentiment analysis (SA), enables quantitative analysis of user emotional expressions. The integration of these technological aspects holds the promise of enhancing decision-making processes, facilitating the intellectualization of economic activities, and addressing existing challenges in the application of AI within the DE domain. Initially, SA is conducted on text-based online comment data, forming a probabilistic linguistic incomplete information system. The maximum similarity method is employed to establish a probabilistic linguistic complete information system. Subsequently, an adjustable MG-PL decision-theoretic rough set (DTRS) is developed, followed by the establishment of a three-way group decision model using three-way decisions (3WD) and a directed graph. The model's applicability, stability, and feasibility are demonstrated via a case study centered on the acquisition of new energy vehicles (NEVs). © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

An investigation area of interest including the use of blockchain technology to address Internet of Things security concerns (IoT). Despite the fact that numerous relevant ideas have been offered, there are few published works that provide hypothetical and information backing. The examination of model building and execution assessment is the focus of this research. First, an IoT security paradigm is outlined, using blockchain and the Inter-Planetary-File-System (IPFS) in a view. Many of the security risks associated with traditional IoT designs can be avoided with this paradigm, and framework execution is entirely focused on distributed large limit stockpiling, simultaneity, and query. In addition, the suggested model's display is evaluated using normal idleness and throughput, which are important for further investigation and enhancement of this course. The blockchain-based security model's feasibility has been demonstrated via analysis and experiments. © 2022 IEEE.

QoE-Aware Latency Optimization in Semantic Transmission Empowered Edge Assisted AR

Augmented reality (AR) enhances human perception by overlaying digital information in the real environment and can be applied to various fields such as education, healthcare, and industry. To relieve the computing pressure of resourcelimited AR devices, edge assisted AR has attracted significant attention in recent years. It enables AR devices to offload the computation-intensive environment analysis tasks to the edge server and to download the point-based 3D virtual objects for rendering. Although this method can effectively reduce the processing latency, it may introduce a long transmission latency. To address this issue, this work proposes a semantic communication empowered edge assisted AR to reduce the quality of experience (QoE)-aware latency. To this end, the AR devices first utilize an image encoder to extract semantic features of source images. Due to the importance difference of extracted features and limited communication resources, the feature selection and bandwidth allocation are explored to improve transmission efficiency. In addition, when the edge server completes the generation of pointbased 3D virtual objects, it employs a transformer-based encoder to mask a proportion of points and learn a high-level representation of unmasked points. In this way, low-complexity semantic information of 3D objects is sent to the AR devices, which can reduce the transmission overhead of 3D objects. Moreover, the mask ratio of the point encoder is further optimized to balance the reconstructed quality and transmission latency of 3D objects. Therefore, this work aims to minimize the overall QoE-aware latency of edge assisted AR by jointly optimizing the semantic feature selection, mask ratio, and bandwidth allocation. A convexbased improved Harris Hawks optimization algorithm is designed to solve the formulated problem. In the past decade, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have shown prominence for semantic segmentation. Although CNN models have very impressive performance, the ability to capture global representation is still insufficient, which results in suboptimal results. Recently, Transformer achieved huge success in NLP tasks, demonstrating its advantages in modeling long-range dependency. Recently, Transformer has also attracted tremendous attention from computer vision researchers who reformulate the image processing tasks as a sequence-to-sequence prediction but resulted in deteriorating local feature details. In this work, we propose a lightweight real-time semantic segmentation network called LETNet. LETNet combines a U-shaped CNN with Transformer effectively in a capsule embedding style to compensate for respective deficiencies. Meanwhile, the elaborately designed Lightweight Dilated Bottleneck (LDB) module and Feature Enhancement (FE) module cultivate a positive impact on training from scratch simultaneously. Extensive experiments performed on challenging datasets demonstrate that LETNet achieves superior performances in accuracy and efficiency balance. Specifically, It only contains 0.95M parameters and 13.6G FLOPs but yields 72.8% mIoU at 120 FPS on the Cityscapes test set and 70.5% mIoU at 250 FPS on the CamVid test dataset using a single RTX 3090 GPU.
