The pansharpening of high-resolution panchromatic (Pan) image and low-resolution multispectral (MS) images represents an important task in the remote sensing field. It allows the joint exploitation of the information derived from both types of images. However, this may cause a distortion of spectral information or a lack in details and structures. The multiresolution analysis using wavelet transforms has proved its efficiency in the pansharpening domain, due to the representation of the image content over different resolution levels. In image fusion applications, we always need more detail information to be incorporated in the pansharpening procedure in order to produce enhanced results. However, the limitation of the wavelet transform to three types of oriented detail coefficients prevents this need from being met. To overcome this limitation, we propose to use the redundant contourlet transform (RCT) which extracts a richer multiscale directional information from the image. For this purpose, two RCT-based pansharpening methods are introduced and suitable data fusion procedures are described. We conducted several experiments on two different datasets acquired respectively by ALSAT-2A and IKONOS satellites. The visual results as well as quantitative results from evaluation metrics demonstrate the performance of the proposed methods. © 2023 IEEE.

Social aspects of software practitioners strongly influence software engineering outcomes. For instance, software companies seek to measure how factors like work engagement and job satisfaction impact employee productivity and software quality. Work engagement represents a positive, fulfilling, work-related mental state, while job satisfaction reflects how content professionals are with their roles. Our study aims to highlight the social aspects of software practitioners considering a large organization. We investigate the work engagement and job satisfaction of software practitioners working remotely at a large software organization in the public sector. We surveyed 891 software practitioners and analyzed their responses qualitatively and quantitatively. The survey participants indicated strong work engagement. They perceived their teams as effective, but there is room for improving social aspects, such as communication within the teams, promoting discussions about career development, and consistent feedback. Most professionals are satisfied with their teams, though a small minority expressed concerns that may influence their willingness to recommend their teams. Our findings provide relevant information about the engagement and satisfaction of employees within this particular type of organization and expand the knowledge base on the subject, supporting new research efforts in the area. © The Author(s) 2025.

Cancers have emerged as a significant concern due to their impact on public health and society. The examination and interpretation of tissue sections stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) play a crucial role in disease assessment, particularly in cases like gastric cancer. Microsatellite instability (MSI) is suggested to contribute to the carcinogenesis of specific gastrointestinal tumors. However, due to the nonspecific morphology observed in H&E-stained tissue sections, MSI determination often requires costly evaluations through various molecular studies and immunohistochemistry methods in specialized molecular pathology laboratories. Despite the high cost, international guidelines recommend MSI testing for gastrointestinal cancers. Thus, there is a pressing need for a new diagnostic modality with lower costs and widespread applicability for MSI detection. This study aims to detect MSI directly from H&E histology slides in gastric cancer, providing a cost-effective alternative. The performance of well-known deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) and a proposed architecture are compared. Medical image datasets are typically smaller than benchmark datasets like imageNet, necessitating the use of off-the-shelf DCNN architectures developed for large datasets through techniques such as transfer learning. Designing an architecture proportional to a custom dataset can be tedious and may not yield desirable results. In this work, we propose an automatic method to extract a lightweight and efficient architecture from a given heavy architecture (e.g., well-known off-the-shelf DCNNs) proportional to a specific dataset. To predict MSI instability, we extracted the MicroNet architecture from the Xception network using the proposed method and compared its performance with other well-known architectures. Lack of sufficient patient monitoring data patterns and scenarios are among the challenges for accurate traffic modeling and network performance optimization when considering IoT medical devices. This paper examines how health data-traffic models can be used to investigate the capability and proper configuration of Long-Range Wide Area Networks (LoRaWAN) for remotely monitoring patients in a hospital environment or at home. For the hospital environment, it is assumed that there are two types of patients at any given time i.e., patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) or surgical wards and those located in the general medical wards. The transmission times of the health data from patients in the ICU/Surgical wards and those in general wards are randomly distributed within one and four-hour periods, respectively. For personal health monitoring devices that people use at their homes, a two-state Markov chain is used to model the generated traffic pattern. Preliminary results indicate that LoRaWAN may be used to support a significant number of nodes with sufficient reliability in both scenarios. © 2024 IEEE.

Facial expression recognition mimics human coding abilities and delivers non-verbal human–robot communication cues. Machine learning and deep learning techniques enable real-world computer vision applications. Deep learning-based facial emotion recognition models have under-fitted or over-fitted due to inadequate training data. They are using FER2013’s 7 picture categories. Face detection using AdaBoost, scaling with OpenCV, and contrast improvement with histogram equalization preprocess these pictures. These pre-processed pictures are given to the ResNet50 pre-trained network, which obtained 77.3% accuracy. Transfer learning improves this outcome. By running pre-processed pictures through ResNet50’s FC1000 layer, features are retrieved and trained using a multiclass nonlinear support vector machine (SVM) classifier with seven classes. Training with 89.923% accuracy creates a knowledge base. Emotion recognition techniques let robots understand people, which can improve HCI. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Tissue P systems are a class of distributed and parallel computing models inspired from inter-cellular communication and cooperation between cells. In this work, a variant of tissue P system, named tissue P system with look-ahead mode, is discussed for decreasing the inherent non-determinism of tissue P systems and helping implementing tissue P systems on computers. Such systems are proved to be universal by simulating register machine, and they are also proved to be able to efficiently solve computationally hard problems by means of a space-time tradeoff, which is illustrated with a polynomial solution to 3-coloring problem.

Hyperautomation acts as a real digital transformation with the support of several cutting-edge cognitive computation methods that include robotic process automation, natural language processing, artificial intelligence, and other emerging ones, which is conducive to processing complex industrial processes via extending the range of various data-driven cognitive decision-making algorithms. The study of air quality evaluations (AQE) plays a significant role in ensuring healthy atmospheric environments. In view of the objective existence of uncertainties, AQE can be modeled and addressed by a typical data-driven automated decision-making problem, and hyperautomation can provide a reasonable solution via associating with a variety of techniques. This article explores hyperautomation for AQE via evidential three-way large-scale group decision-making (LSGDM) in an intuitionistic fuzzy (IF) setting. First, the notion of intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFSs) is incorporated into the paradigm of multi-granularity (MG) three-way decisions (TWD), and the model of adjustable MG IF probabilistic rough sets (PRSs) is developed. Second, an IF clustering analysis with the improved technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) method is conducted to affirm representative members within a decision group. Third, a novel IF LSGDM method is built via adjustable MG IF PRSs and the evidence reasoning (ER) method. Finally, a case study in the setting of AQE is studied by using the presented evidential three-way LSGDM method. Corresponding experimental analyses are carried out for illustrating the efficiency of hyperautomation for AQE. In general, the proposed method improves the performance of information fusion by virtue of adjustable MG IF PRSs, and the TOPSIS method avoids the influence of subjective factors on decision results. Water quality inspection (WQI) is one of the primary ways to ensure the safe utilization of water resources, and complicated data modeling, fusion and analysis play a significant role in seeking the resource with the best water quality. Nevertheless, the challenges of missing data, relatively large differences in decision results and bounded rationality owned by decision-makers (DMs) in terms of WQI still exist nowadays. Thus, from the aspect of stable and behavioral decision-making in multi-granularity incomplete intuitionistic fuzzy information systems (MG-IIFISs), the paper investigates a comprehensive multi-attribute group decision-making (MAGDM) approach for the application of WQI. First, the concept of MG-IIFISs is built by modeling MAGDM problems with intuitionistic fuzzy numbers (IFNs), then a new transformation scheme is constructed for transforming MG-IIFISs into multi-granularity intuitionistic fuzzy information systems (MG-IFISs) based on the similarity principle. Second, three types of multigranulation intuitionistic fuzzy probabilistic rough sets (MG IF PRSs) are developed by referring to the MULTIMOORA (Multi-Objective Optimization by Ratio Analysis plus the full MULTIplicative form) method. Afterwards, attribute weights are objectively calculated based on the best-worst method (BWM), and a new stable and behavioral MAGDM approach is constructed by means of the TODIM (an acronym in Portuguese for interactive multi-criteria decision-making) method. At last, a case study in the setting of WQI is conducted with the support of a UCI data set, and sensitivity analysis, comparative analysis and experimental analysis are investigated to display the validity of the proposed approach. In general, the proposed approach improves the stability of decision results via MULTIMOORA and BWM, and also fully considers the bounded rationality of DMs' psychological behaviors from the aspect of the TODIM method, which has certain advantages in the community of MAGDM studie

Recently, topic-grounded dialogue system has attracted significant attention due to its effectiveness in predicting the next topic to yield better responses via the historical context and given topic sequence. However, almost all existing topic prediction solutions focus on only the current conversation and corresponding topic sequence to predict the next conversation topic, without exploiting other topic-guided conversations which may contain relevant topic-transitions to current conversation. To address the problem, in this paper we propose a novel approach, named Sequential Global Topic Attention (SGTA) to exploit topic transition over all conversations in a subtle way for better modeling post-to-response topic-transition and guiding the response generation to the current conversation. Specifically, we introduce a latent space modeled as a Multivariate Skew-Normal distribution with hybrid kernel functions to flexibly integrate the global-level information with sequence-level information, and predict the topic based on the distribution sampling results. We also leverage a topic-aware prior-posterior approach for secondary selection of predicted topics, which is utilized to optimize the response generation task. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our model outperforms competitive baselines on prediction and generation tasks. © 2022 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Agile development aims at rapidly developing software while embracing the continuous evolution of user requirements along the whole development *** stories are the primary means of requirements collection and elicitation in the agile development.A project can involve a large amount of user stories,which should be clustered into different groups based on their functionality’s similarity for systematic requirements analysis,effective mapping to developed features,and efficient ***,the current user story clustering is mainly conducted in a manual manner,which is time-consuming and subjective to human *** this paper,we propose a novel approach for clustering the user stories automatically on the basis of natural language ***,the sentence patterns of each component in a user story are first analysed and determined such that the critical structure in the representative tasks can be automatically extracted based on the user story *** similarity of user stories is calculated,which can be used to generate the connected graph as the basis of automatic user story *** evaluate the approach based on thirteen datasets,compared against ten baseline *** results show that our clustering approach has higher accuracy,recall rate and F1-score than these *** is demonstrated that the proposed approach can significantly improve the efficacy of user story clustering and thus enhance the overall performance of agile *** study also highlights promising research directions for more accurate requirements elicitation.
