Narrowing of the coronary arteries is an important indicator of the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) in patients. Previous research using deep learning to identify narrowed vessels has primarily been based on object detection, but this approach has several problems, such as the inability to detect multivessel narrowing, calculate the actual rate of narrowing, and determine the exact location of occurrence. Therefore, we believe that the determination of narrowing should return to the original method, namely, calculating the maximum and minimum diameters around the vessel. However, to automate this task, a preprocessing step for separating each vessel is needed, especially for the complex structure of the left coronary artery. We designed a deep learning model capable of analyzing an entire coronary angiography (CAG) image for the separation and tracking of vessels. This not only serves as a preprocessing step for calculating narrowing but also allows for the analysis of different vessel flow directions, providing doctors with comprehensive assessment indicators. © 2024 Copyright ACM.

In today’s complex global environments, it is highly challenging to achieve effective healthcare management. The critical challenges faced by healthcare management are being met by the revolution of m-health where mobile cloud computing plays a major role. The taxonomy of mobile computing comprises operational aspects, end-user issues, and service quality and mobility management. The use of smartphone technologies and applications has become a highly significant approach to improving healthcare management. Mobile health services such as mobile pathology, mobile neurosurgery, cancer treatment, and behavioral/psychological disorders are gaining significance where smartphone applications are being used. Portability, flexibility, and convenience are major characteristics of mobile computing that have helped patients and doctors to develop better relationships through coordination and communication. The relationship between smartphone technologies and applications and healthcare management can be understood in several broad aspects. This article aims to analyze the current and future implications of these technologies on healthcare and disease management systems.

In the realm of research, the global health challenge posed by lung cancer remains pronounced, contributing substantially to annual cancer-related fatalities. The critical imperative lies in the early identification of pulmonary nodules, frequently indicative of impending lung cancer, to enhance patient outcomes and diminish mortality rates. Computed Tomography (CT) imaging stands out as a pivotal diagnostic instrument for the timely detection of these nodules. The swift proliferation of medical imaging data has underscored the pressing necessity for precise and efficient methodologies dedicated to nodule segmentation and measurement. These approaches are crucial in assisting radiologists in their diagnostic and clinical decision-making endeavors. In this study, we introduced a thorough method for analyzing lung nodules, leveraging dataset from Far Eastern Memorial Hospital (FEMH) comprising original CT images and manually annotated ground truth masks obtained with the assistance of radiologists at FEMH. This dataset is utilized for the segmentation of nodules. We employed advanced deep learning models, specifically the U-Net architecture, identified as the optimal model through our training process. We made substantial progress in nodule segmentation, attaining an Intersection over Union (IoU) score of 0.824 and a Dice Coefficient of 0.903 for the FEMH dataset. Furthermore, our performance improved when utilizing the merged dataset comprising FEMH and Luna16, yielding an IoU score of 0.862 and a Dice Coefficient of 0.926. Luna16 has been extensively utilized in numerous studies related to nodule detection and segmentation. In the next phase of the study, the best-performing model from our segmentation phase was utilized to predict nodule masks on the merged dataset. Subsequently, we measured the size of each predicted nodule by comparing it with the size ground truth mask in millimeters. This study aims to investigate the use of artificial intelligence in health education in the last ten years from 2012 to 2022 using the Scopus database. Researchers use bibliometric analysis combined with the quantification method of Vosviewer and Rstudio software used for literature analysis. The results of the article that were flushed showed data such as the year of publication, journal, country, keywords, and authors, to the highest number of citations. The general keywords used by researchers are artificial intelligence, medical, and education. Researchers limit findings through keywords as in the last ten years and English only so that 1681 articles were obtained. According to the study's findings, McGill University affiliation had the greatest number of papers, with 69 pieces, and medicine had a proportion of 39.7% (n = 1067). This bibliometric study will be useful for other researchers to examine the development of research on artificial intelligence in health education in the last ten years. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Deepepiil13: Deep Learning for Prediction of Il-13 Inducing Epitopes Using Pre-Trained Language Models and Multi-Window Convolutional Neural Networks

Interleukin-13 (IL-13) is a key cytokine involved in allergic inflammation and the cytokine storm associated with severe COVID-19. Identifying antigenic epitopes capable of inducing IL-13 holds therapeutic potential for developing epitope-based vaccines and immunomodulatory treatments. However, conventional methods for epitope prediction are often inefficient and inaccurate. This study presents DeepEpiIL13, a novel deep learning framework that integrates pre-trained language models and multi-window convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to rapidly and accurately predict IL-13-inducing epitopes from protein sequences. The ProtTrans pre-trained language model was employed to generate high-dimensional embeddings that capture rich contextual information from protein sequences. These embeddings were then inputted into a multi-window CNN architecture, enabling the efficient exploration of local and global sequence patterns associated with IL-13 induction. The proposed approach was rigorously evaluated using benchmark datasets and an independent SARS-CoV-2 dataset. DeepEpiIL13 achieved superior performance compared to traditional methods, with an impressive Matthews correlation coefficient (MCC) of 0.52 and an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 0.86 on the benchmark dataset. On the independent SARS-CoV-2 dataset, DeepEpiIL13 demonstrated remarkable robustness, attaining an MCC of 0.63 and an AUC of 0.92, highlighting its potential applicability in the context of COVID-19 research. This study introduces a powerful deep learning framework for accurate epitope prediction, offering new avenues for the development of epitope-based vaccines and immunotherapies targeting IL-13-mediated disorders. The successful identification of IL-13-inducing epitopes paves the way for novel therapeutic interventions against allergic diseases, inflammatory conditions, and potentially severe viral infections like COVID-19. © 2024, The Authors. This study delves into the prediction of protein-peptide interactions using advanced machine learning techniques, comparing models such as sequence-based, standard CNNs, and traditional classifiers. Leveraging pre-trained language models and multi-view window scanning CNNs, our approach yields significant improvements, with ProtTrans standing out based on 2.1 billion protein sequences and 393 billion amino acids. The integrated model achieves an impressive AUC of 0.855 and 0.822 on Set_1 and Set_2 datasets, outperforming previous methods. Beyond this, we explore the application of this model in cancer therapy, particularly in identifying peptide interactions for selective targeting of cancer cells. The findings of this study contribute to bioinformatics, providing valuable insights for drug discovery and therapeutic development. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This empirical study involved volunteers who played a game featuring NPCs specially developed for the research. The research investigated the influence and behaviour of NPC appearance on some factors regarding the players. Results suggest that NPC appearance can significantly affect the player’s emotions, immersion, perception, and decision-making. Poorly dressed NPCs negatively influenced the player’s emotional state, while well-dressed NPCs generated higher trustworthiness and positively influenced the player’s decision-making. This study may help develop more efficient strategies for creating characters that influence the player’s decision-making in video games and encourage the development of new research in the field of human-agent interaction and game development.

Candidate selection platforms have been widely used in companies that seek agility in the process of hiring. Candidates who do not meet the requirements of a job vacancy are disqualified in the first step, called screening. This stage has been automated due to the large volume of curriculum vitae (CV) of candidates per vacancy, particularly for internship vacancies. As a consequence, candidates receive little to none feedback and do not know how to improve/optimize their CVs for new applications. The goal of this paper is to realize the curriculum vitae optimization (CVO) process for internship vacancies by implementing a recommendation system that given an undergraduate student CV, it suggests the addition of relevant keywords, taking into account the student’s undergraduate course. This system is implemented based on the clustering of CVs keywords, from an internship recruitment private company database, into profile groups which are linked to internship vacancies. The experimental results showed that recommendations improved students CVs similarity (competitiveness within a specific field) from 18.83%, with 3 keywords recommendation, up to 50.67%, with 10 words. © 2023, ICST Institute for computer sciences, Social informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

Multi SVM has long been one of the popular methods in classification, while DCNN has recently gained significant attention in image processing and pattern recognition. This research evaluates the effectiveness of Multi Class Support Vector Machine (M-SVM) and Deep Convolutional Neural Network (DCNN) techniques in classifying brain tumors. A dataset of 2660 3D medical images with dimensions 227 x 227 x 3; including Glioma, Meningioma, and Pituitary tumors, has been partitioned into distinct sets for both training and testing purposes. DCNN approach achieves excellent accuracy in identifying tumor names, with a training accuracy of 97.8% and 100% success rate in 9 experiments. The Multi SVM method demonstrates relatively good accuracy, with training accuracies ranging from 70% to 90% based on different kernel functions. These findings provide valuable insights for selecting appropriate methods in brain tumor classification and encourage further exploration of hybrid Multi SVM-DCNN approaches to enhance accuracy and reliability.

Dynamic programming is a fundamental algorithm that can be found in our daily lives easily. One of the dynamic programming algorithm implementations consists of solving the 0/1 knapsack problem. A 0/1 knapsack problem can be seen from industrial production cost. It is prevalent that a production cost has to be as efficient as possible, but the expectation is to get the proceeds of the products higher. Thus, the dynamic programming algorithm can be implemented to solve the diverse knapsack problem, one of which is the 0/1 knapsack problem, which would be the main focus of this paper. The implementation was implemented using C language. This paper was created as an early implementation algorithm using a Dynamic program algorithm applied to an Automatic Identification System (AIS) dataset. © 2023 IEEE.
