This paper presents the application program of fingerprint detection using wavelet transform for authentication. Fingerprints are obtained from the site of crime, old documents and excavated things. This paper proposes a fingerprint recognition technique based on wavelet-based texture pattern recognition method. By collecting incomplete fingerprints of 2 people with 6 images each. The original seven of uncompleted fingerprint images were undetected and only one was detected. After enhancing image quality using wavelet transform method, it was found that those of seven images were completed. The comparison method was a matching technique. This work focuses on the ability of the program and knowledge of image processing by studying algorithms of image processing. In design algorithm process, different technique enhancements were employed as well as the study of different of filters and algorithms based on existing research results from literature.

Statistical tourism data are critical to supporting tourism policy decisions. Such data are normally compiled via questionnaires or interviews, which requires both time and money, thus making such data unusable for policy decision-making to occur in real-time. To support real-time policy decision-making, we focused on person trip data for promoting tourism. The city government can reflect such data on tourism events and guidebooks if it has a grasp of tourist person trip patterns. In this paper, we focused on using the log data of Wi-Fi access points available at each tourist spot. Wi-Fi access points have log data that keep track of the timestamps of users connecting and disconnecting from the Wi-Fi. We can visualize the movements of tourists using these data; however, there is bias among Wi-Fi users. Therefore, we must evaluate the Wi-Fi log data to verify they are representative of almost all tourists. More specifically, we evaluated log data for Goto City to determine whether the government's data were equivalent to the log data. We also showed the possibility of visualizing tourist movement history based on our log data.

This paper presents link prediction of Linked Open Data (LOD) by Multiple Label Propagation Algorithm (MLPA). The current LOD do not have enough links. Therefore, the LOD have not been able to exert so much semantic characteristics. In order to solve this problem, we proposed the MLPA considering semantic distance. The MLPA can expand potential links of each data contained in the LOD. The experimental result of the MLPA shows the good performance and the validity of this algorithm is confirmed.

The microstructure of a material intimately affects the performance of a device made from this material. The microstructure, in turn, is affected by the processing pathway used to fabricate the device. This forms the process–structure–property triangle that is central to material science. There has been increasing interest to comprehensively understand and subsequently exploit process–structure–property (PSP) relationships to design processing pathways that result in tailored microstructures exhibiting optimal properties. However, unraveling process–structure–property relationships usually requires systematic and tedious combinatorial search of process and system variables to identify the microstructures that are produced. This is further complicated by the necessity to interrogate the properties of the huge set of corresponding microstructures. Motivated by this challenge, we focus on developing a generic methodology to establish and explore PSP pathways. We leverage recent advances in high performance computing (HPC) and high throughput computing (HTC) with the premise that a domain expert should be able to focus on domain specific PSP problems while the highly specialized HPC/HTC knowledge needed to approach such problems should be hidden from the domain expert. Our hypothesis is that PSP exploration can be naturally formulated in terms of a standard paradigm in cloud computing, namely the MapReduce programming model. We show how reformulating PSP exploration into a MapReduce workflow enables us to take advantage of advances in cloud computing while requiring minimal specialized knowledge of HPC. We illustrate this generic approach by exploring PSP relationships relevant to organic photovoltaics. We focus on identifying microstructural traits that correlate with specific properties of the photovoltaic process: exciton generation, exciton dissociation and charge generation. In this study, we examine the contribution of student-faculty interactions to the future engagement of students in their academic endeavors. These relationships were evaluated in a one-year longitudinal study of STEM (including engineering and computer science) students at five different institutions. These five institutions include three types of Carnegie 2010 classifications (Bac-Diverse, Master's L, and RU-VH), four geographical locations including the northwest, northeast, midwest, and southeast, and both public and private institutions with total undergraduate enrollments varying from 1,900 to 29,000 students. Both behavioral (effort, participation) and emotional (positive, negative) aspects of engagement are studied. Results show that significant relationships emerged for three of the five schools between faculty support and engagement. Formal faculty support (that provided in the context of a particular course) predicted effort (a form of behavioral engagement) at the HBCU in this study and also positive emotional engagement for both the HBCU and Teaching institution. Informal faculty support (that provided outside the context of a particular course) predicted participation (another form of behavioral engagement) and positive emotional engagement at the Research institution in the study. These results suggest that institutional culture influences how what faculty do predicts future engagement outcomes for students. At the Research institution, it appears that what happens between faculty and students outside of class influences students while at smaller or teaching-oriented institutions, what faculty do inside a class matters more. These results can provide important insight to faculty as to how to guide their interactions with students at different institutions to make the most difference in students' academic lives. © American Society for Engineering Education, 2015.

We aim at dimensioning fixed broadband microwave wireless networks under unreliable channel conditions. As the transport capacity of microwave links is prone to variations due to, e.g., weather conditions, such a dimensioning requires special attention. It can be formulated as the determination of the minimum cost bandwidth assignment of the links in the network for which traffic requirements can be met with high probability, while taking into account that transport link capacities vary depending on channel conditions. The proposed optimization model represents a major step forward since we consider dynamic routing. Experimental results show that the resulting solutions can save up to 45% of the bandwidth cost compared to the case where a bandwidth over-provisioning policy is uniformly applied to all links in the network planning. Comparisons with previous work also show that we can solve much larger instances in significantly shorter computing times, with a comparable level of reliability.

This study interviewed 33 students from four different institutions in a variety of engineering and computer science majors in order to understand how and why students study the way they do. The institutions involved in this research include two types of Carnegie 2010 Classifications (Master's L and RU-VH), geographical locations in the northwest, northeast, and midwest, both public and private institutions, and enrollments varying from 3,500 to 29,000 students (total undergraduates among all majors). Although this interview pool does not provide a large sample size, and thus results must be interpreted qualitatively and with caution, we found that a majority of students begin their studying alone and seek help only later when they run into trouble with their coursework. Despite the fact that this Start alone, End together model for studying was the predominant approach among interviewees, the reasons for choosing this mode of studying vary. For example, students at the small Women's college in this study reported easy accessibility to faculty as a reason to refrain from studying in groups, while students at the large research university reported a need to focus properly, learn fully, and make the most efficient use of limited time as the prevalent reason for beginning their study alone. Furthermore, when asked how they prefer to study, many students shift from a Start alone, End together model to a Start alone, End alone model, suggesting that students may have unrealistic expectations of being able to complete assignments and study on their own. Still other students, while making the best of Start alone, End together, expressed that they would much rather work in a group from start to finish. The results of our student interviews suggest the need for a larger study that investigates how prevalent the Start alone, End together model of studying is among a large, representative sample of engineering and computer science students and if it is an arrangement that stud
