Industrial alarm systems facilitate the reliable and effective management of industrial process operations. However, the manufacturer’s fear of missing a critical fault or lacking process understanding may lead to the implementation of alarm systems that overburden operators by an enormous amount of alarms. Inadequate alarm settings and maintenance, coupled with a high volume of disturbance alarms, necessitate operators making crucial decisions within a limited time. Thus, an alarm management strategy that accurately anticipates the types of incoming alarms is needed, especially in brownfield systems where it is infeasible to simplify the underlying alarming functions. This alleviates the need for human interpretation of alarms upon arrival, allowing operators to address anomalous behaviors early. This study proposes an alarm classification approach, based on active learning, latent dirichlet allocation (LDA) topic modeling and transformer-based deep learning. It focuses on addressing these challenges through a systematic natural language processing (NLP) approach to classify and map fault messages. To demonstrate the validity of this approach, real-world alarm data from an industrial hybrid non-woven manufacturing process is used.

Social media cyberbullying has a detrimental effect on human life. As online social networking grows daily, the amount of hate speech also increases. Such terrible content can cause depression and actions related to suicide. This paper proposes a trustable LSTM-Autoencoder Network for cyberbullying detection on social media using synthetic data. We have demonstrated a cutting-edge method to address data availability difficulties by producing machine-translated data. However, several languages such as Hindi and Bangla still lack adequate investigations due to a lack of datasets. We carried out experimental identification of aggressive comments on Hindi, Bangla, and English datasets using the proposed model and traditional models, including Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Bidirectional Long ShortTerm Memory (BiLSTM), LSTM-Autoencoder, Word2vec, Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT), and Generative Pre-trained Transformer 2 (GPT-2) models. We employed evaluation metrics such as f1-score, accuracy, precision, and recall to assess the models' performance. Our proposed model outperformed all the models on all datasets, achieving the highest accuracy of 95%. Our model achieves state-of-the-art results among all the previous works on the dataset we used in this paper. © 2023 IEEE.

Robotic swarms or portable sensor networks are emerging technologies for sensing physical processes that are spatially distributed- and temporally dynamic, both on Earth and in future Moon/Mars exploration missions. We develop a portable network composed of a multitude of self-organized “sensor eggs”. These eggs are equipped with ultra-wideband (UWB) transceivers, providing precise time and position information without additional infrastructures like Global Navigation Satellite systems (GNSSs). Each egg is additionally equipped with environmental sensors, for example, a Sulfur dioxide gas sensor to explore volcanic activity. We use a real time decentralized particle filter (DPF) to estimate the a-posteriori probability density functions (PDFs) of the egg positions. These PDFs are then used in a static state binary Bayes filter for estimating the gas sources with potentially complex structures such as cracks on the volcano surface. The proposed sensor network is verified with an in-field experiment at La Fossa volcano on the island of Vulcano, Italy, in 2023.

Dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor drives have gained considerable interest in those applications requiring high levels of reliability. However, they often suffer from high-order harmonic currents and mismatch of motor parameters, resulting in degraded performance and reduced efficiency. Therefore, this paper proposes a dual-mode disturbance observer based model predictive current controller. Not only direct current disturbances caused by motor parameters, but also alternating current disturbances caused by high-order harmonic currents are explicitly modeled and estimated to achieve improved model accuracy. In addition, the observer parameter design is given in detail. Furthermore, a generalized predictive current controller with the integration of the proposed observer is developed to provide satisfactory harmonic current suppression capability and parameter robustness simultaneously. Proof of the stability with the proposed controller is given and several experiments and comparisons demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2013 IEEE.

In recent years, various companies have started to shift their data services from traditional data centers to the cloud. One of the major motivations is to save on operational costs with the aid of cloud elasticity. This paper discusses an emerging need from financial services to reduce the incidence of idle servers retaining very few user connections, without disconnecting them from the server side. This paper considers this need as a bi-objective online load balancing problem. A neural network based scalable policy is designed to route user requests to varied numbers of servers for the required elasticity. An evolutionary multi-objective training framework is proposed to optimize the weights of the policy. Not only is the new objective of idleness reduced by over 130% more than traditional industrial solutions, but the original load balancing objective itself is also slightly improved. Extensive simulations with both synthetic and real-world data help reveal the detailed applicability of the proposed method to the emergent problem of reducing idleness in financial services.

The technological advancements in the field of agriculture have increased to a great extent in recent years, and many techniques have evolved from other techniques. Some methods are improved or upgraded from the previous versions by implementing a new model or using better hardware devices. This has been helpful for the farmers in increasing crop productivity, and the life expectancy of crops has also increased as the diseases inside or outside the crops can be detected much earlier, and learning at an early stage helps prevent other crops. In this paper, we have presented a study where many varieties of fruits and vegetables have been taken to determine which method was used for a particular crop. By analyzing the various works carried out by the authors, it was inferred that most of the works revolved around image processing and hyperspectral imaging. Due to this, we had also included most of the papers, particularly as the models and hardware components used were much better than other works. With the exponential growth of data, the demand for effective data analysis tools has increased significantly. R language, known for its statistical modeling and data analysis capabilities, has become one of the most popular programming languages among data scientists and researchers. As the importance of energy-aware software systems continues to rise, several studies investigate the impact of source code and different stages of machine learning model training on energy consumption. However, existing studies in this domain primarily focus on programming languages like Python and Java, resulting in a lack of energy measuring tools for other programming languages such as R. To address this gap, we propose “RJoules”, a tool designed to measure the energy consumption of R code snippets. We evaluate the correctness and performance of RJoules by applying it to four machine learning algorithms on three different systems. Our aim is to support developers and practitioners in building energy-aware systems in R.
