Monitoring the environment and managing water bodies are crucial for preserving ecosystems and ensuring sustainable resource utilization. This study aims to propose a robust approach for segmenting water bodies by combining various complementary attributes extracted from deep learning techniques. By leveraging deep contextual features learned from attention regions and enhanced edge detection, our method significantly improves the accuracy of detecting water bodies in low-resolution satellite imagery. Utilizing S1 and S2 Sentinel imagery data and exploring multi-band features, we enhance key attributes through advanced UNet architectures - specifically, Ki-UNet and Attention UNet - and integrate complementary features for downstream tasks. Additionally, we assembled a local dataset from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) region of Pakistan, facilitating precise water body segmentation from satellite or aerial views. Our ensemble model achieved remarkable accuracy and Intersection over Union (IoU) scores, reaching up to 99.01% and 96.2%, respectively, surpassing state-of-the-art models. This paper investigates the optimized combination of rotor and stator teeth in a three-phase switched reluctance motor featuring a connected C-core topology to attain a larger winding area and, thus, a higher electrical loading capability, leading to a higher torque density. The general formulation is discussed. Additionally, the shorter flux path within the design leads to a reduced core loss. The finite element method is employed in the design and field analysis. A comparison with a conventional motor shows the superiority of the proposed configuration. The optimized design is prototyped and tested. Both static and dynamic torques are extracted. A good correlation between simulation and experimental results is observed. © 2024 IEEE.

With the ever-increasing popularity of Internet of Things(IoT),massive enterprises are attempting to encapsulate their developed outcomes into various lightweight Web Application Programming Interfaces(APIs)that can be accessible *** this context,finding and writing a list of existing Web APIs that can collectively meet the functional needs of software developers has become a promising approach to economically and easily develop successful mobile ***,the number and diversity of candidate IoT Web APIs places an additional burden on application developers’Web API selection decisions,as it is often a challenging task to simultaneously ensure the diversity and compatibility of the final set of Web APIs *** this challenge and latest successful applications of game theory in IoT,a Diversified and Compatible Web APIs Recommendation approach,namely DivCAR,is put forward in this *** of all,to achieve API diversity,DivCAR employs random walk sampling technique on a pre-built“API-API”correlation graph to generate diverse“API-API”correlation ***,with the diverse“API-API”correlation subgraphs,the compatible Web APIs recommendation problem is modeled as a minimum group Steiner tree search problem.A sorted set of multiple compatible and diverse Web APIs are returned to the application developer by solving the minimum group Steiner tree search *** last,a set of experiments are designed and implemented on a real dataset crawled from *** results validate the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed DivCAR approach in balancing the Web APIs recommendation diversity and compatibility.

Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is a system consisting of smart meters, communications networks, and data management systems that enable two-way communication between utilities and customers. This paper aims to introduce a solution for an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) that utilizes cloud technologies as well as edge and fog computing technologies. We propose an innovative solution for AMI that combines the high performance and scalability of cloud computing with low latency and local processing strength in edge/fog systems. This integrated solution improves the accuracy and promptness of energy consumption data capture, either at a stand-alone level or combined network concept, which provides real-time data processing. Our solution utilizes LoRaWAN technology to collect data from geographically dispersed meters. The data collected are stored in an Internet of Things (IoT) framework for real-time dashboards and data analysis. The proposed solution established a robust and efficient framework for modern energy management by integrating these technologies. © 2024 IEEE.

This work introduces SPAR, a compiler framework based on MLIR, tailored for deep learning inference applications. Alongside SPAR, we present SPAR HL, an extensible Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) designed to seamlessly interface custom FPGA-based accelerators with the SPAR compiler. Historically, custom accelerators on FPGA have posed a challenge as a compiler target. Prior compiler initiatives have addressed this issue by generating application-specific hardware during compilation, necessitating expertise across both application and hardware domains. In response, we offer an alternative approach by proposing an ISA as a unified compiler target and hardware interface for custom accelerators. Furthermore, we introduce a compiler capable of translating high-level machine learning models encoded in ONNX into code compatible with our proposed ISA, thus enabling efficient deployment on FPGA-based custom accelerators. © 2024 IEEE.

Research has primarily focused on fully automatic instrument-playing robots. However, it is difficult to support the experience of playing musical instruments for people with physical disabilities or those who are inexperienced in playing musical instruments. To address this issue, we studied a "semi-automatic"instrument-playing robot based on human-robot collaboration. Our research specifically focused on the guitar, which are stringed instruments with complex pressed strings. The developed robot enables individuals with physical disabilities and those without musical experience to easily play musical instruments. Additionally, the instruments can be easily removed without causing damage. © 2024 IEEE.

Autonomous valet parking(AVP) is a system that allows a vehicle to detect a parking space and park without any human intervention. This paper explores the efficient use of monocular visual simultaneous localization and mapping(visual-SLAM) in AVP scenarios, while also highlighting several problems arising from current AVP methods. These problems include the difficulties of performing a loop closure in narrow places and the unreliability of the estimated scale between the real-world and SLAM maps. This paper explores two methods for resolving these problems. The first solution is to perform AVP without loop closure. This can be done through a camera switching method that uses the front camera while parking, and the rear camera in return driving scenarios. The second solution involves making use of an alternative automatic parking algorithm that utilizes a car’s heading. Most automatic parking algorithms utilize monocular visual-SLAM, but it is difficult to calculate an accurate scale using this method. The alternative automatic parking algorithm using a car's heading could eliminate these issues with scaling. Each method was tested in three different locations, returning average success rates of 80% in return driving and 93.3% in automatic parking. The methods highlighted in this paper only utilize cameras, which are inexpensive compared to other sensors and are expected to contribute to commercializing the AVP system. © ICROS 2022.

Constrained multi-objective optimization problems (CMOPs) are prevalent in real-world applications, dealing with multi-objective and constraint functions. Multiobjective evolutionary algorithm based on decomposition with differential evolution (MOEA/D-DE) has proven effective for unconstrained multi-objective optimization problems with complex Pareto front (PF). However, in CMOPs, the conflicting nature between objectives and constraints often makes it challenging to appropriately manage constraints while ensuring convergence, diversity, and feasibility of the solution set towards the PF. To address this issue, this paper proposes a bilayered decomposition technique. The proposed algorithm treats constraints as an additional objective function, separately decomposing the objective space and the constraint violation space. This method allows for the simultaneous attainment of convergence, diversity, and feasibility in the solution set while efficiently exploring the PF. Experimental results demonstrate that, within the MOEA/D-DE framework, our algorithm efficiently navigates complex PFs on challenging problems such as LIR-CMOPs and DAS-CMOPs, matching the performance of state-of-the-art constrained multi-objective evolutionary algorithms. © 2024 IEEE.

Radar-based methods for contactless pulse monitoring typically use heart rate estimation accuracy as the primary performance evaluation metric. Recently, more in-depth metrics such as heart rate variability (HRV) have been of interest, requiring precise pulse waveform reconstructions for reliable estimations. Traditional phase variation-based vital signs signal processing techniques have proven to be susceptible to sources of noise, impacting the shape of the extracted pulse waveform. In this work, the advantages of using raw multi-channel radar data and deep learning in an end-to-end manner for precise pulse waveform reconstruction are explored. Preliminary results show electrocardiogram (ECG) waveforms can be reconstructed from raw in-phase and quadrature 60 GHz multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar data using an end-to-end neural network. Additionally, an ablation study is performed, revealing that waveform reconstruction similarity and estimation accuracy of several HRV metrics generally improve as the number of utilized MIMO channels increases. © 2025 IEEE.
