In Monte-Carlo simulations, various types of random numbers are necessary for simulating various kinds of stochastic phenomena. Using one-dimensional chaotic maps, we can design statistical properties of the chaotic sequences, which implies that chaotic sequences may be useful for Monte-Carlo methods. In this paper, we examine auto-correlation properties of binary sequences obtained by switching two chaotic binary sequences generated by Bernoulli map. It is shown that binary sequences with various new types of auto-correlation properties can be generated. © 2023 IEEE.

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) systems have emerged as a reliable and non-destructive tool for subsurface object detection and characterization. In this paper, we present a comprehensive performance evaluation of two different stepped-frequency continuous wave (SFCW) GPR radars in application for detecting buried objects. Radars have the same structure, one is implemented on a single substrate with more than 300 elements and the second one is a modular implementation of radar using separately designed transmitter, receiver, and processing unit. The paper presents the design of both radars and their performances evaluation. The same TEM horn antennas were used for detecting subsurface objects using both these radars. The study focuses on two specific objects, an anti-tank mine and an anti-personal. The radar platforms have different output power and have different processing speeds, because they use different sets of electronic chips and FPGAs. The performance of GPR radars is assessed based on their ability to accurately detect and locate these objects. © 2023 IEEE.

Developing ultra-low-power devices requires low-power components, algorithms, and communication protocols. For environmental monitoring along the supply chain, products may travel a long way from the distributor to the customer. In addition, extreme climatic circumstances, such as temperatures below 0°C, affect battery capacity. In order to monitor package's environment, it is crucial to ensure that all embedded system parts use as little energy as possible. This paper addresses how much power the SPI and I2C communication protocols use. These protocols are widely used in low-power embedded devices for sensor communication. Based on its results, this research article presented recommendations for developing ultra-low power embedded devices that use the SPI/I2C protocol. © 2023 MIPRO Croatian Society.

Cyberbullying is a severe issue that impacts teens and adults alike. Errors like hopelessness and suicide have resulted from it. The demand for material on social media platforms to be regulated is growing. In the work that follows, machine learning and natural language processing are used to construct a model to identify cyberbullying in text data. The program leverages data from two different types of cyberbullying: personal attacks on Wikipedia forums and tweets containing hate speech. To determine the optimal approach, three feature extraction techniques and four classifiers are examined. The method produces more than 80% accurate data from Wikipedia and more than 90% correct data from Twitter. © 2024 IEEE.

The huge amount of data generated by the Internet of Things (IoT) devices needs the computational power and storage capacity provided by cloud, edge, and fog computing paradigms. Each of these computing paradigms has its own pros and cons. Cloud computing provides enhanced data storage and computing power but causes high communication latency. Edge and fog computing provide similar services with lower latency but limited capacity, capability, and coverage. A single computing paradigm cannot fulfill all the requirements of IoT devices and a federation between them is needed to extend their capacity, capability, and services. This federation is beneficial to both subscribers and providers and also reveals research issues in traffic offloading between clouds, edges, and fogs. Optimization has traditionally been used to solve the problem of traffic offloading. However, in such a complex federated system, traditional optimization cannot keep up with the strict latency requirements of decision-making, ranging from milliseconds to sub-seconds. Machine learning approaches, especially reinforcement learning, are consequently becoming popular because they could quickly solve offloading problems in dynamic environments with some unknown information. This study provides a novel federal classification between cloud, edge, and fog and presents a comprehensive research roadmap on offloading for different federated scenarios. We survey the relevant literature on the various optimization approaches used to solve this offloading problem and compare their salient features. We then provide a comprehensive survey on offloading in federated systems with machine learning approaches and the lessons learned as a result of these surveys. Finally, we outline several directions for future research and challenges that have to be faced in order to achieve such a federation. © 1998-2012 IEEE.

The scope of visible light communication (VLC) in the navigation industry is expanding day by day. This is due to the potential of achieving high navigation accuracy in indoor and outdoor environments. It outperforms the global positioning system (GPS) in providing precise results. In particular, a GPS may not satisfy the stringent need for centimeter-level accuracy. This paper provides a brief review of VLC technology for outdoor navigation. It explores the solid-state lighting technologies that play a pivotal role in achieving accurate localization. It also identifies some emerging areas of applications for VLC-based outdoor positioning systems. © 2023 IEEE.

Underlay dynamic spectrum access (DSA) has powerful effectiveness and efficiency for sharing radio spectrum among DSA users. But two fundamental issues have to be addressed: 1) avoiding harmful interference to Primary User (PU), 2) enabling effective transmission and coordinating interference with other Secondly User (SU). To solve the aforementioned issues, we propose a novel channel access and power control algorithm, which named Parallel Action Network Structure (PANS) Deep Double Dueling Q-Network (D3QN). Additionally, We enable SUs flexibly determine whether to perform single-channel transmission or have the opportunity for dual-channel transmission based on the current state. With the support of the two innovations mentioned above, SUs can independently select channels and control transmission power, further more improve their *** numerous simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed algorithm. © 2023 IEEE.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) equipped with Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) have revolutionized soil moisture estimation. UAV-based SAR offers high-resolution imaging, allowing detailed analysis at the field level, and greater temporal flexibility compared to satellite-based systems. The active microwave sensing capability of UAV-based SAR allows for all-weather and day-night operation, providing consistent and reliable soil moisture estimations. This paper presents a simple, lightweight, low consumption Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar attached to a hexacopter. The radar is designed to generate and acquire data in HH and VV polarization. A simple experiment is presented to estimate a soil moisture using the Dubois and the Integral Equation Model (IEM) for soil moisture detection. A custom designed convolutional network with attention mechanism for soil moisture estimation is presented. ©2023 IEEE.

In this paper, finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method for transmission line equations in Taylor field-to-wire coupling form is adopt to calculate the transient response of twisted-wire pairs (TWP) above perfect electric conductor (PEC) ground plane. First, the proposed method is verified by comparing the results with CST. Then, the terminal response of TWP under dual-exponential pulse wave irradiation is compared with CST, validating the accuracy of the proposed method. Last, the terminal voltage and current responses of the TWP are analyzed with different incident wave directions. © 2023 Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES).

The deployment of intelligent reconfigurable surfaces (IRS) by a wireless operator is a widely discussed concept for optimizing the communication performance in 6G networks. However, an IRS manipulates the channel propagation characteristics not only of signals of the operator who controls the IRS, but also of signals of other operators, although they operate at different frequencies. This is because IRS usually do not employ band pass filtering and, thus, also reflect signals of other frequencies. Those unwanted reflections might cause interference due to uncontrolled multipath. We argue that IRS are part of the common environment and, thus, should be jointly controlled in order to achieve multi-operator coexistence. In this paper, we first introduce and discuss the problem of multi-operator coexistence issues that arise in IRS-assisted networks. We then propose splitting a single common IRS into multiple sub-blocks (subIRS) and controlling their dynamic assignment to operators, by taking into account the impact on the proximate operators as well. We show that the performance of the overall multi-operator network can be improved significantly if subIRS are properly assigned to the operators, compared to a purely static or random assignments. Our simulations results reveal that a significant improvement in terms of the sum rate and the fairness with respect to the respective data rate of the operators can be achieved. © 2023 IEEE.
