A topical VAEGAN-IHMM approach for automatic story segmentation

Feature representations with rich topic information can greatly improve the performance of story segmentation tasks. VAEGAN offers distinct advantages in feature learning by combining variational autoencoder (VAE) and generative adversarial network (GAN), which not only captures intricate data representations through VAE's probabilistic encoding and decoding mechanism but also enhances feature diversity and quality via GAN's adversarial training. To better learn topical domain representation, we used a topical classifier to supervise the training process of VAEGAN. Based on the learned feature, a segmentor splits the document into shorter ones with different topics. Hidden Markov model (HMM) is a popular approach for story segmentation, in which stories are viewed as instances of topics (hidden states). The number of states has to be set manually but it is often unknown in real scenarios. To solve this problem, we proposed an infinite HMM (IHMM) approach which utilized an HDP prior on transition matrices over countably infinite state spaces to automatically infer the state's number from the data. Given a running text, a Blocked Gibbis sampler labeled the states with topic classes. The position where the topic changes was a story boundary. Experimental results on the TDT2 corpus demonstrated that the proposed topical VAEGAN-IHMM approach was significantly better than the traditional HMM method in story segmentation tasks and achieved state-of-the-art performance. © 2024 the Author(s).

Selecting a cloud service provider (CSP) from a wide range of options with varying offerings poses a crucial challenge for service requesting consumers (SRCs). The decision criteria outlined in Service Level Agreement (SLA), which defines the Quality of Service (QoS) offered by the CSP, help in selecting a suitable provider. However, relying solely on the SLA for evaluating the merits of a CSP is insufficient. Therefore, the Quality of Experience (QoE) has gained significance in assessing the overall satisfaction of the (SRC). Additionally, monitoring consumer buying behavior is essential from a business perspective, as all aspects of a business transaction should be mutually beneficial for both the CSP and SRC. Therefore, a new framework is proposed to determine the relative rankings of CSPs and SRCs. Effectiveness of the framewo rk is established through experiments on the QWS cloud dataset, which reveal positive results in terms of implementation complexity and time required. © 2024 IEEE.

The automotive industry is increasing exponentially day by day providing a safer and efficient experience to the consumers. Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) has become more crucial with the increasing number of vehicles. Moreover, there is a growing demand for intelligent services like efficient traffic monitoring in vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication environments. Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) represents the demanding and vibrant environment for securing the interaction between the vehicle, RSUs, and pedestrians through the Controller area network (CAN). RF jamming Attacks can be integrated through wireless mediums. The paper presents an improvement in securing VANETs through the combination of Blockchain technology (BT) with Deep learning (DL). In DL-based model, RNN is utilized for detecting and classifying malicious activities. BT ensures secure transactions and automated trust-less interactions using smart contracts. Thus, the non-attack data classified by DL layer is communicated using BT. IPFS is used for storing the information to enhance the scalability while mitigating the maintenance cost of BT. The accuracy achieved by the RNN model during evaluation was 97%. Multiple models were evaluated over metrics like accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and ROC-AUC curve. © 2024 IEEE.

With rapidly expanding cloud-enabled big data environments, there is an imperative need for efficient data-sharing mechanisms that are multidimensional and balance both speed and security. In this connection, high-speed compression and secure authentication come forth playing a very crucial role. The two significant challenges addressed in this framework are data compression for efficient storage and transmission and robust authentication for secure access and integrity of shared data. This way, the framework compresses data size significantly without losing its quality, leading to efficient, faster data transfers and reduced considerably storage costs on cloud infrastructures. At the same time, secure authentication mechanisms [1] such as cryptography techniques and multi-factor authentication ensure that only authorized users access sensitive data, thus protected from potential unauthorized access or cyber-attacks. Integration of both capabilities speed compression and secure authentication-functionalizes big data environments to their peak performance and security. This framework is highly suitable for high-scale data-oriented industries like healthcare, finance, and IoT, which necessitate high-speed, secure, and reliable data sharing. Ultimately, this approach improves scalability and security in cloud-enabled big data systems by enabling organizations to keep pace with growing needs for highly efficient and secure data sharing in a highly dynamic environment. © 2025 IEEE.

In this letter, we depart from the widely-used gradient descent-based hierarchical federated learning (FL) algorithms to develop a novel hierarchical FL framework based on the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM), leveraging a network architecture consisting of a single cloud server and multiple edge servers, where each edge server is dedicated to a specific client set. Within this framework, we propose two novel FL algorithms, which both use ADMM in the top layer: one that employs ADMM in the lower layer and another that uses the conventional gradient descent-based approach. The proposed framework enhances privacy, and experiments demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithms compared to the conventional algorithms in terms of learning convergence and accuracy. Additionally, gradient descent on the lower layer performs well even if the number of local steps is very limited, while ADMM on both layers lead to better performance otherwise. © 2019 IEEE.

Real-time 3-D view reconstruction in an unfamiliar environment poses complexity for various applications due to varying conditions such as occlusion, latency, precision, etc. This article thoroughly examines and tests contemporary methodologies addressing challenges in 3-D view reconstruction. The methods being explored in this article are categorized into volumetric and mesh, generative adversarial network based, and open source library based methods. The exploration of these methods undergoes detailed discussions, encompassing methods, advantages, limitations, and empirical results. The real-time testing of each method is done on benchmarked datasets, including ShapeNet, Pascal 3D+, Pix3D, etc. The narrative highlights the crucial role of 3-D view reconstruction in domains such as robotics, virtual and augmented reality, medical imaging, cultural heritage preservation, etc. The article also anticipates future scopes by exploring generative models, unsupervised learning, and advanced sensor fusion to increase the robustness of the algorithms. © 2020 IEEE.

Voice biometric authentication has gained significant attention in recent years due to its non-intrusive and user-friendly nature. In this research paper, we present a comprehensive study on the effectiveness of three different spectrograms - Constant Q Transform (CQT), Mel and Gammatone at the front end of an Audio Spoof Detection (ASD) system. The back end of the system employs the Xception pretrained model. Our experimental results reveal that Gammatone Spectrograms outperform both CQT Spectrograms and Mel Spectrograms in terms of performance. Specifically, combination of Gammatone Spectrogram with Xception pretrained has achieved a remarkable 3.5% and 2% Equal Error Rate (EER) for ASVspoof 2021 DF and DECRO dataset, respectively © 2024 IEEE.
