DeepSeqCoco: A Robust Mobile Friendly Deep Learning Model for Detection of Diseases in Cocos Nucifera

Coconut tree diseases are a serious risk to agricultural yield, particularly in developing countries where conventional farming practices restrict early diagnosis and intervention. Current disease identification methods are manual, labor-intensive, and non-scalable. In response to these limitations, we come up with DeepSeqCoco, a deep learning based model for accurate and automatic disease identification from coconut tree images. The model was tested under various optimizer settings, such as SGD, Adam, and hybrid configurations, to identify the optimal balance between accuracy, minimization of loss, and computational cost. Results from experiments indicate that DeepSeqCoco can achieve as much as 99.5% accuracy (achieving up to 5% higher accuracy than existing models) with the hybrid SGD then Adam showing the lowest validation loss of 2.81%. It also shows a drop of up to 18% in training time and up to 85% in prediction time for input images. The results point out the promise of the model to improve precision agriculture through an AI-based, scalable, and efficient disease monitoring system. © 2013 IEEE.

A Multi-Agent Proximal Policy Optimized Joint Mechanism in mmWave HetNets with CoMP Toward Energy Efficiency Maximization

A novel cluster-based traffic offloading and user association (UA) algorithm alongside a multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (DRL) based base station (BS) activation mechanism is proposed in this paper. Our design aims to maximize the energy efficiency (EE) of the heterogeneous network (HetNet) while maintaining high quality of service (QoS). By taking advantage of the dense deployment of BSs in a HetNet, a clustering algorithm is first proposed to facilitate traffic offloading among BSs. Then, a multi-agent proximal policy optimization (MAPPO) based DRL algorithm is employed to trigger the BS activation decision based on the current environmental condition. Finally, a UA algorithm is deployed to improve further the (normalized) data rate of all users, known as the (normalized) sum rate. Via simulation, we show that our proposed mechanism can remarkably enhance the EE and excel over the closely related mechanisms. It satisfies the required data rate, improves the sum rate, and exhibits excellent scalability when many BSs are deployed. © 2017 IEEE.

Hyperspectral Target Detection-Based 2-D-3-D Parallel Convolutional Neural Networks for Hyperspectral Image Classification

This article presents a novel hyperspectral target detection (HTD) based two-dimensional (2-D)-three-dimensional (3-D) parallel convolutional neural network (HTD 2D-3D-PCNN) model, which integrates the HTD technique to achieve outstanding performance in hyperspectral image classification. The proposed model effectively leverages both spectral and spatial information through a dual-branch architecture in hyperspectral imaging. In the first branch, HTD is utilized to enhance the spectral features of targets of interest, while suppressing background. The resulting enhanced image is then inputted to a 2D-CNN, augmented with an additional deconvolution layer to highlight spatial characteristics. Concurrently, the second branch employs dimensionality reduction via principal component analysis, and a 3D-CNN is employed to capture both spectral and spatial attributes. Subsequently, the feature maps from both convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are combined and processed through fully connected layers for classification. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed HTD-2D-3D-PCNN, extensive experiments are conducted on five widely used hyperspectral public datasets (Indian Pines, Pavia University, Salinas Scene, Kennedy Space Center, and Botswana) with a consistent training sample ratio of either 10% or 5%. The results show that HTD-2D-3D-PCNN can achieve overall accuracy values of 98.41%, 99.85%, 99.92%, 99.82%, and 98.82% for the respective datasets, surpassing the performance of recent methodologies. © 2008-2012 IEEE.

Vision-based Robotic Arm in Defect Detection and Object Classification Applications

Robotic arms have been widely used in industrial fields. However, researchers have seldom considered the factors affecting the actual factory environment. For example, when objects are conveyed in a factory, conveyor belts are often used to dynamically plan the overall production line. In addition, each object requires multiple checkpoints for repeated audits and inspections to ensure its quality. In this study, a vision-based robotic arm system equipped with multiple functionalities was developed. The development process consisted of three steps: detecting multiple dynamic objects, determining the size of each object, and identifying object defects. In the first step, You Only Look Once was used to detect multiple dynamic objects on a conveyor belt in real time. In the second step, the original image of the object was converted into a grayscale image, and the edge contour of the object was drawn using a Canny edge detection algorithm. Objects in the image were then rotated for vertical and horizontal projections, and then an artificial neural network (ANN) was used to calculate the size of each object. In the third step, a convolutional fuzzy neural network (CFNN) was used to identify object defects. This network was divided into an input layer, a convolution pooling layer, a feature fusion layer, a fuzzy layer, a regular layer, and a defuzzification layer. According to the experimental results, the standard error of the mean between the object size obtained by the ANN and the actual size was 0.009. In addition, the accuracy, recall, precision, and F1-score obtained by the CFNN in object defect detection were 0.9580, 0.9535, 0.9535, and 0.9535, respectively. Compared with other deep neural network models, such as AlexNet and LeNet, the proposed CFNN has fewer parameters and higher performance. © MYU K.K.

Surface Defect Detection Algorithm of Hot-Rolled Strip Based on Improved YOLOv7

To enhance the capability of classifying and localizing defects on the surface of hot-rolled strips, this paper proposed an algorithm based on YOLOv7 to improve defect detection. The BI-SPPFCSPC structure was incorporated into the feature pyramid in this algorithm, enabling enhanced extraction of features from small objects and improved accuracy in network model positioning. Additionally, a small object detection layer was introduced to enhance shallow feature capture. Then the CARAFE sampling operator was used for up-sampling to reduce the feature loss problem of small objects. Finally, the WIoU served as the loss function for network model training to expedite convergence. The NEU-DET dataset was utilized for ablation and comparison tests. The findings indicated that the enhanced YOLOv7 model's mAP value had increased to 80.7%. The detection impact was much enhanced in comparison to other traditional models, and the frequency of false and missing detections was also decreased. © (2024), (International Association of Engineers). Correlation Attention Registration Based on Deep Learning from Histopathology to MRI of Prostate

Deep learning offers a promising methodology for the registration of prostate cancer images from histopathology to MRI. We explored how to effectively leverage key information from images to achieve improved end-to-end registration. We developed an approach based on a correlation attention registration framework to register segmentation labels of histopathology onto MRI. The network was trained using paired prostate datasets of histopathology and MRI from the Cancer Imaging Archive. We introduced An L2-Pearson correlation layer to enhance feature matching. Furthermore, our model employed an enhanced attention regression network to distinguish between key and nonkey features. For data analysis, we used the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test and a one-sample t-test, with the statistical significance level for the one-sample t-test set at 0.001. Compared with two other models (ProsRegNet and CNNGeo), our model exhibited improved performance in Dice coefficient, with increases of 9.893% and 2.753%, respectively. The Hausdorff distance was reduced by approximately 50% and 50%, while the average label error (ALE) was reduced by 0.389% and 15.021%. The proposed improved multimodal prostate registration framework demonstrated high performance in statistical analysis. The results indicate that our enhanced strategy significantly improves registration performance and enables faster registration of histopathological images of patients undergoing radical prostatectomy to preoperative MRI. More accurate registration can prevent over-diagnosing low-risk cancers and frequent false positives due to observer differences. © 2023 by Begell House, Inc.

A hybrid machine learning approach for enhanced anomaly detection in drinking water quality

Machine learning has become important for anomaly detection in water quality prediction. Data anomalies are often caused by the difficulties of analysing large amounts of data, both technical and human, but approaches have been inadequate when water contamination increases. The paper reports an anomaly detection technique based on an autoencoder and an extreme learning machine (AEELM). This approach uses an autoencoder for feature selection and an ELM algorithm for classification purposes. It is estimated using the Cauvery River dataset. The autoencoder-based ELM techniques outperformed other models with 83% accuracy, 77% precision, 83% recall, and 83% F1-level characteristic performance indicators. These results demonstrate its great effectiveness. © 2024 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Centralized RANSAC-Based Point Cloud Registration With Fast Convergence and High Accuracy

For point cloud registration, the purpose of this article is to propose a novel centralized random sample consensus (RANSAC) (C-RANSAC) registration with fast convergence and high accuracy. In our algorithm, the novel contributions are, first, the proposal of a scale histogram-based outlier removal to delete outliers from the initial line vector set L for constructing a reduced line vector set Lred;second, the handshake cooperation between the host RANSAC (H-RANSAC) only working on L and the local RANSAC (LCL-RANSAC) only working on Lred;third, in each handshake process, after receiving the global registration solution and the global iteration number xH from H-RANSAC, LCLRANSAC uses the received global solution as the initial solution of the modified TEASER++ (M-TEASER++) method to calculate its first local registration solution. If the first local registration solution satisfies the global iteration number inheritance condition, LCL-RANSAC directly sends the accumulated iteration number, xH + 1, and the first local solution back to H-RANSAC;otherwise, LCL-RANSAC iteratively refines its local solution using the M-TEASER++ method, and then sends the resultant local solution and the required local iteration number xLCL to H-RANSAC for updating the global solution, the global iteration number to xH := xH + xLCL, and the global confidence level. Due to |Lred| |L| and employing the global iteration number inheritance condition test into our algorithm, we have conducted extensive experiments on testing point cloud pairs to show the registration accuracy and execution time merits of our algorithm relative to the state-of-theart methods. © 2008-2012 IEEE.

On the bitmap compression for joint coding and data hiding of AMBTC compressed images

The compressed code of Absolute Moment Block Truncation Coding (AMBTC) consists of quantized values (QVs) and bitmaps. The QVs exhibit greater predictability, and the bitmaps themselves carry more randomness. While existing joint coding and data hiding based methods have focused on compressing the QVs, none of them have addressed the coding of bitmaps. Furthermore, evidence also reveals that the sub-divided bitmaps exhibit a highly uneven pattern distribution. Therefore, we propose an efficient method to compress the bitmaps by representing sub-divided bitmaps as decimal digits. This exploits the varying frequency of certain digits, allowing Huffman encoding for shorter codewords to represent frequently occurring digits. Moreover, we have observed that less frequent digits, which require longer codewords, tend to appear among blocks with smaller difference of QVs. As a solution, we employ an adaptive approach to directly record the original bitmap when the difference is below a specific threshold. Otherwise, we employ Huffman encoding to reduce the code length. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach in reducing the storage space required for Lena’s bitmaps by 7.36%. Moreover, the reduction in bitrate is more pronounced when the test image exhibits a smooth texture. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.
