This study delves into the application of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithms in the parameter optimization of Support Vector Regression (SVR) models to enhance the accuracy of predicted average life expectancy. An adaptive PSO algorithm augmented with random perturbations is introduced. Through a fitness-function-guided dynamic adjustment mechanism, this method circumvents the premature convergence issue typical of conventional PSO, locating the optimal penalty parameter C and kernel parameter for the SVR model. These parameters are then incorporated into the SVR model for training and regression prediction, achieving optimal data fitting and generalization effects. Comparative analysis reveals that the PSO-enhanced SVR model outperforms the traditional SVR across various performance metrics. Notably, there is a marked improvement in the coefficient of determination, a significant re-duction in root mean square error, and mean absolute percentage error, affirming the advancements of the improved PSO-SVR model in prediction accuracy and reliability. © 2024 IEEE.

Extracting structured event knowledge, including event triggers and corresponding arguments, from military texts is fundamental to many applications, such as intelligence analysis and decision assistance. However, event extraction in the military field faces the data scarcity problem, which impedes the research of event extraction models in this domain. To alleviate this problem, we propose CMNEE, a large-scale, document-level open-source Chinese Military News Event Extraction dataset. It contains 17,000 documents and 29,223 events, which are all manually annotated based on a pre-defined schema for the military domain including 8 event types and 11 argument role types. We designed a two-stage, multi-turns annotation strategy to ensure the quality of CMNEE and reproduced several state-of-the-art event extraction models with a systematic evaluation. The experimental results on CMNEE fall shorter than those on other domain datasets obviously, which demonstrates that event extraction for military domain poses unique challenges and requires further research efforts. With the increase of the number of objectives in multi-objective optimization problems, the proportion of non-dominated individuals in the population will increase exponentially, and the multi-objective evolutionary algorithm based on the traditional Pareto dominance relation lacks sufficient selection pressure, which degenerates the convergence of the algorithm. In addition, the effectiveness of existing density estimation approaches to distinguish the individuals in high-dimensional space decreases, resulting in poor performance in maintaining diversity. In view of the above problems, this paper proposes a many-objective evolutionary algorithm based on improved dominance relation. First, an improved dominance relation is proposed, the individual with the best convergence is kept in each niche, which increases the selection pressure. Second, a dynamic fitness function is proposed so that individuals with better convergence and diversity can be retained adaptively. Third, an adaptive student distribution crossover operator is proposed, which further improves the convergence and diversity of our algorithm. Early detection is vital in crop health, yet improvement in productivity faces time-consuming and inefficient challenges due to traditional manual techniques of plant disease detection. Thus, we present a deep learning-based novel framework with a method called k-means clustering with DenseNet Classification denoted by Kmc-Densenet. The approach streamlines this plant disease detection process involving the overall pipeline of extensive preprocessing, segmentation, and classification. In the preprocessing stage, we employ contrast enhancement techniques to improve the visibility of disease symptoms, ensuring clearer and more consistent leaf images for further analysis. For the segmentation task, we leverage a k-means clustering which effectively isolates regions of interest, distinguishing between healthy and diseased areas of the plant leaf. In the classification stage, we use a DenseNet variant of CNN, known for its feature reuse capabilities, to classify the plant diseases with high accuracy. The DenseNet model helps overcome the challenges posed by class imbalance, enhancing the overall detection performance. Finally the parameters of the Densenet model is fine-tuned using the Lyrebird Optimization Algorithm. The proposed Kmc-Densenet method is evaluated on the publicly available Plant village dataset, demonstrating superior performance in both segmentation and classification tasks. This framework offers a more efficient and reliable solution for early plant disease detection in precision agriculture, with potential applications in improving crop yield and quality. © 2025 IEEE.

The growing consumer base and expanding market for various music styles highlight the necessity of classifying music genres to cater to people's preferences. Manual music ranking is a labor-intensive process for listeners, prompting the need for a more efficient approach. This involves the extraction of Mel-frequency cepstral coefficient feature maps from the log Mel-spectrograms of audio clips. The extracted feature maps are supplied to a multiclass semi-supervised deep convolutional generative adversarial network where the discriminator behaves as a classifier. The training of models involves utilizing the GTZAN standardized dataset, a publicly accessible collection of thousands of audio files spanning ten different genres, from which 80% and 20% of the data are used for training and testing, respectively. Finally, the paper discusses the performance of the semi-supervised deep convolutional generative adversarial network through the RMSprop and Adam optimizers on the original and augmented labeled and unlabeled MFCC feature maps. Without any data augmentation, the discriminator achieves a training accuracy of 97.9% and a test accuracy of about 45.67%. In contrast, the discriminator's training accuracy is about 98.3%, and the test accuracy is 84.75% with data augmentation. © 2024 IEEE.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) has been the most common cause of dementia making cognitive score prediction and important feature identification crucial for its diagnosis. Although sparse linear regression has been used for this purpose due to its simplicity, it often selects an excessive number of features to track the disease and assumes a linear relationship between input and output, which might not always hold. To address these limitations, genetic programming-based symbolic regression (GPSR) algorithms have been proposed. GPSR can select the important features by exploring the feature space and learning a regression model without any assumption of model structure. However, the generalization ability of existing GPSR methods still needs to be improved. Considering the multiple related prediction tasks in AD studies, this work proposes a new method called linear scaled GPSR with multi-task feature selection (LSGPMTFS), to promote the prediction performance of each task by knowledge-sharing among multiple tasks. LSGPMTFS has two stages. The first stage learns a specific feature subset for each task. In the second stage, the model for each task is searched on the union of feature subsets selected from the first stage. The experimental results on authentic AD datasets demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can select a small set of important features with better learning and generalization performance compared with other GPSR methods. © 2024 IEEE.

COVID-19, is one of the deadliest pandemic hit globally crises in the recent years, continues to persist with emerging variants of concern. Due to the virus's high transmissibility, rapid and precise detection of COVID-19 is crucial for timely medical intervention. This research presents an advanced deep transfer learning approach for quantifying the severity of COVID-19 infection from CT lung images. Using computer vision techniques, lung regions were extracted from CT scans through semantic segmentation using SegNet. An enhanced U-Net architecture, integrated with the Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling (ASPP) technique, was employed to semantically segment the infected regions of the lungs. Based on the segmented infection areas, the severity of the infection was classified into mild, moderate, and severe. The proposed framework, which incorporates lung extraction followed by Ground-Glass Opacity (GGO) segmentation, achieves the segmentation accuracy of 96% and a prediction accuracy of 98.9%. © 2024 IEEE.

Facial emotion recognition (FER) is largely utilized to analyze human emotion in order to address the needs of many real-time applications such as computer-human interfaces, emotion detection, forensics, biometrics, and human-robot collaboration. Nonetheless, existing methods are mostly unable to offer correct predictions with a minimum error rate. In this paper, an innovative facial emotion recognition framework, termed extended walrus-based deep learning with Botox feature selection network (EWDL-BFSN), was designed to accurately detect facial emotions. The main goals of the EWDL-BFSN are to identify facial emotions automatically and effectively by choosing the optimal features and adjusting the hyperparameters of the classifier. The gradient wavelet anisotropic filter (GWAF) can be used for image pre-processing in the EWDL-BFSN model. Additionally, SqueezeNet is used to extract significant features. The improved Botox optimization algorithm (IBoA) is then used to choose the best features. Lastly, FER and classification are accomplished through the use of an enhanced optimization-based kernel residual 50 (EK-ResNet50) network. Meanwhile, a nature-inspired metaheuristic, walrus optimization algorithm (WOA) is utilized to pick the hyperparameters of EK-ResNet50 network model. The EWDL-BFSN model was trained and tested with publicly available CK+ and FER-2013 datasets. The Python platform was applied for implementation, and various performance metrics such as accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and F1-score were analyzed with state-of-the-art methods. The proposed EWDL-BFSN model acquired an overall accuracy of 99.37 and 99.25% for both CK+ and FER-2013 datasets and proved its superiority in predicting facial emotions over state-of-the-art methods. ©2024 the Author(s), licensee AIMS Press.
