There is still a severe malaria problem worldwide, particularly in regions with limited access to diagnostic tools. It is crucial to develop a system for detecting malaria in blood cells. This paper presents a hybrid Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), and as a classifier, we use a Support Vector Machine (SVM) framework for the automated detection of malaria parasites in blood cell images. The proposed system leverages the strengths of CNNs in feature extraction and representation learning from images, combined with the discriminative power of SVMs for classification. Initially, CNN extracts intricate features from blood cell images, capturing essential patterns indicative of malaria infection. Subsequently, the extracted features are used to train an SVM classifier, enabling accurate discrimination between parasitized and uninfected blood cells. Experimental dataset evaluations were obtained from the Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications website of the National Library of Medicine. The proposed model achieves a better f1-score, outperforming individual CNN or SVM models, around 0.015 compared to individual CNN models and 0.27 compared to individual SVM models. This hybrid CNN-SVM methodology offers a promising solution for accurately and efficiently detecting malaria parasites in blood cell images. © 2024 IEEE.

Emotions are essential to social interaction between interlocutors. It provides essential meaning to social interaction. It is important to recognise emotions along with verbal cues to fully understand the true meaning of a conversation in a social interaction setting. Several techniques can be applied to recognise emotions in the social interaction setting automatically. Emotions can be recognised and interpreted from the interlocutor's facial cues (e.g., facial expression recognition task) by using a sensor such as a camera. Recognising emotions from facial cues has several problems to be solved. This research aims to model robust emotion recognition from facial cues to recognise emotions (particularly from Asian people), as there is only limited research done in this area. This research aims to propose an emotion recognition model from facial cues by implementing Vision Transformers architecture. The dataset implemented in this research was explicitly performed by local (i.e., Indonesian) actors (The Indonesian Mixed Emotion Dataset-IMED). The results show that the proposed model can achieve the best testing accuracy of 100% with the best training loss of 0.0001, with 0.53 hours of training times for 50 epochs. © 2023 IEEE.

The characteristics of the disease that spreads quickly, the number of sufferers, and the severity of sufferers of Coronavirus Disease 2019 are components of uncertainty during the pandemic. In an uncertain situation, prediction models for the need for drugs and medical devices are of great concern to policymakers in government, drug manufacturers, distributors, and pharmaceutical installation managers to maintain drug availability. Drug need prediction models that rely on historical data components on drug use are no longer reliable. Learning from the COVID-19 case, epidemiological variables correlate with predicting drug demand. This research includes data on ten major diseases in private hospital units for 2017-2022 to complete historical data on drug use. This study implements the Random Forest algorithm. The research method uses literature studies and processing field data from pharmaceutical installations. The analysis process uses KNIME software. The level of accuracy in predicting drug demand from historical drug use data was 77.272%, increasing to 81.818% with a model for predicting drug demand based on consumption cycles and classification of drug therapy groups. Furthermore, predictions of drug demand can consider variables recorded in medical records related to the seasonal frequency of diseases. © 2023 IEEE.

Enzymes are biocatalysts with vital roles in biological functions and many industrial applications. Diverse enzymes are classified using Enzyme Commission (EC) nomenclature, making differentiation challenging. On the other hand, another biological information, gene ontology (GO), can describe the biological aspects of enzymes, covering related biological processes (BP), molecular functions (MF), and their locations within cells (CC). This study proposes a novel EC class and subclass classification of enzymes within the ontology subclass based on their GO semantics using a Bidirectional Encoder Representation of Transformer (BERT). The BERT model is first fine-tuned using the preprocessed GO term name and definition, with the enzymes in each ontology class (BP, MF, or CC) are also divided based on how the GO assigned, either through manual annotation (NONIEA) or electronically inferred (IEA). BERT successfully obtained 0.93, 0.60, 0.99, 0.90, 0.40, and 0.35 F1 scores during fine-tuning for BP IEA, BP NONIEA, MF IEA, MF NONIEA, CC IEA, and CC NONIEA, respectively. On the test set, the fine-tuned BERT significantly outperformed GOntoSim, a framework to calculate semantic similarity based on classical information theory, in EC class classification across all metrics with less inference time in all ontology subclass. Expanded further to the EC subclass, BERT can classify the enzyme on the EC subclass level in BP IEA and MF IEA ontology subclass. However, longer epochs are needed in fine-tuning. This result shows that the names and definitions of GO terms are distinguishable features in classifying enzymes as an alternative to the information content approach. © 2024 IEEE.

This study examines the significant influence of emotional states on individuals, recognizing that people are often confronted with numerous challenges and problems in their lives. Such challenges can give rise to feelings of despair and tension, especially in those who struggle to manage them effectively. Depression, which is not just limited to adults, can also have a significant impact on children who may not fully grasp their socio-economic conditions. One of the serious consequences of unresolved emotional distress, particularly depression, is an elevated risk of suicide. Within this framework, facial recognition technology presents itself as a powerful instrument for identifying human emotions. The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of facial recognition systems in detecting indicators of depression. Using the YOLOv5 algorithm and comparing it with its precursors, YOLOv4 and YOLOv7, the research conducts a simulation experiment to examine the ability of the system to precisely interpret a range of emotional states, including happiness, sadness, and anger. The research findings suggest that the YOLO algorithm, particularly in its most recent versions, displays exceptional precision in identifying and classifying intricate facial expressions, thus showcasing its potential as a beneficial device in mental health evaluations. © 2023 IEEE.

Emotionally-aware chatbots are chatbots that are equipped with emotional intelligence. Based on the literature, using emotional elements in chatbots can improve user engagement and believability factors. This study attempts to make a novel contribution by empirically evaluating the impact of emotion recognition models on the believability factor of chatbots. This study examines the impact of the emotions model and avatar on chatbot interactions through three implementations. Thirty-one participants volunteered to evaluate emotionally aware chatbots. The participants evaluated the interaction with the chatbot using the Godspeed Questionnaire Series (GQS). The questionnaire results are utilized to measure the effect of the emotions model on the chatbot's believability factor. The evaluation results of the experiment show that implementing the emotion recognition model on the chatbot increases its believability factors. On average, the believability measures in interaction type B (with an emotion model) are enhanced 1.71 times compared to interaction type A (a basic model). Furthermore, the believability measures in interaction type C (with an emotion model and an avatar) are enhanced 2 times more than in interaction type A (a basic model). The believability factor is also heightened by integrating a chatbot avatar into the interaction system. Using avatars in chatbots increases the believability variables of the system by 1.17 times if compared with not using avatars. © 2023 IEEE.

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder caused by a dysfunction in insulin secretion which leads to an increase in blood sugar levels in the body. The disease has dangerous risks for those who suffer from it, as it can lead to various complications and even death. Because of the dangerous risks associated with diabetes, early detection of the disease is important. Machine learning can help the process of diagnosing diabetes quickly and accurately because of its ability to learn and process data independently. The goal of this research is to develop a diabetes detection system using ensemble learning with a soft voting classifier. In predicting diabetes, this research uses 14 types of algorithms with the help of the PyCaret library, including extra trees classifier, random forest, light gradient boosting, machine, gradient boosting classifier, decision tree, adaboost classifier, logistic regression, linear discriminant analysis, k-neighbors classifier, quadratic discriminant analysis, naive bayes, support vector machine-linear kernel, dummy classifier, and ridge classifier. From the evaluation process, the five best algorithms are chosen with an accuracy level of 91.3%, 91.3%, 89.5%, 92.2% and 85.3 % These five algorithms are then blended using ensemble learning with a soft voting classifier. The accuracy produced by the soft voting classifier method is higher than using a single classifier, at 97.3%. © 2023 IEEE.

There are many alternative fuel types that can be used by a particular type of engine. Determining which fuel alternative is optimal for an engine presents its own challenges. This is especially true in an industrial setting, where certain standards are necessary to select the best fuel alternative to be used and operated. This study aims to develop a decision model for selecting a fuel type for boiler engines based on specific parameters or criteria. The decision model is designed using an object-oriented approach, utilizing three types of diagrams: object, activity, and sequence. An object-oriented model design approach allows for the decision model to be depicted transparently and very close to reality. Additionally, the analytical hierarchical process (AHP) and fuzzy logic are the core methods employed in constructing the decision model. Then, in developing this decision model, four main criteria or parameters are considered: cost, heating value, safety, and emissions. These four parameters were derived from a literature review and interviews with experts. Among the three evaluated fuel types (i.e., natural gas, industrial diesel oil or IDO, and coal), coal received the highest decision score of 0.78. Thus, based on this decision value-the outcome of the model's recommendation-it can be concluded that coal remains an objective choice as a fuel for use in boiler engines. © 2024 IEEE.

Data is a crucial component that holds a lot of information. Whether it's information that is public or private. The data is obtained through a long process until in the end the data has been proven valid. Valid data is a high value asset owned by its users. National Identity Card (KTP) is an ID card that is useful for storing valid data on its holder. This card must be owned by everyone who lives in Indonesia. Because this card contains a lot of information on its holder, this card is a high value asset and many are targeted for taking and selling its data by unauthorized parties. As in the case of KTP data leaks that occurred in the RI Ministry of Social database which was carried out by a group of hackers and sold them in online forums. This case occurred for several reasons, including Human error, Malware, insiders with bad intentions, etc. The impact of data leaks can be misused by criminals, especially those related to fraud and social engineering. Data leaks can cause huge losses. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to find out how much people know about the value of KTP and the impact that can be generated if their data is successfully retrieved by someone else. In this study, the author uses survey research whereas we are going to distribute some questionnaires to the public who have KTP according to the topic to be discussed and draw a conclusion out of it. In general, we concluded that most respondents still do not know the impact of leaking KTP data and the level of danger that occurs when it occurs. However, if the government can develop a high security service to secure customer personal data and provide knowledge of the importance of the value in KTP. So, the data can be maintained properly. © 2023 IEEE.

The ability to identify cancer at an early stage is critical to increase the likelihood of effective treatment or stopping the progression of the disease in the body. Lung cancer is one of the most common deadly diseases and quickly kills the patient. The number of deaths caused by lung cancer surpasses those of colon, rectal, breast, and prostate cancers combined. Unfortunately, only two percent of patients with advanced lung cancer survive for five years or more. However, the survival rates are better, with 49 % of the patients surviving for five years or more, if the disease is detected early. On the other hand, in this modern era, machine learning has become one of the most reliable tools in the world for healthcare, as machine learning can learn from the data obtained and process the data that will later be used to help complete certain tasks. Therefore, in this research, machine learning or especially classification algorithms such as K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest, Logistic Regression, and XGBoost are used to identify three main symptoms that serve as markers for early detection of lung cancer. Determining the three main symptoms is done by combining the results of the feature importance score on each model using the rank-averaging method. The result is an average ranking of each feature based on its combined importance with an accuracy of 93.5 %. © 2023 IEEE.
