The prediction of scholarship recipients in higher education using k-Nearest neighbor algorithm

This article aims to implement the algorithm model of k-Nearest Neighbor (k-NN) in analyzing, predicting, and classifying students who have potentials to get scholarships in universities. The k-NN algorithm works by making a prediction based on the closest data points between the old data history as training data and the new data as testing data. The data collected totals 1018 students with 24 scholarship receiver candidate students are used as the dataset for the test purposes. The attributes used in the prediction process are a semester, parents' income, number of family dependents, and Cumulative Grade Point Average. The distance calculation of the value from testing attribute to each training attribute uses Euclidean Distance equation, while the test of the model accuracy value is calculated using Confusion Matrix. The results of the simulation of the prediction model show that the determining factor of training data from both the number and the variation of different values can improve the performance of the k-NN algorithm with the best accuracy rate of 95.83 percent in predicting students who have the greatest chance of getting the scholarship.

Developing 3D applications is needed as a tool that can attract students to learn. This study develops learning applications that display solar system objects in 3D using Rapid Application Development (RAD) model as an interesting learning tool for elementary school students in Indonesia. The development of applications using RAD model can be three phases namely: planning requirements, RAD design workshop, and implementation. It facilitates students to learn material about the 3D solar system in sound explanations, and animations that display visions from three different sides, namely the arrangement of the solar system seen from the sun, above, and the back of the earth. The application also facilitated the quiz feature to find out students' understanding of the solar system after using this application.

Natural Language Processing (NLP) is still considered a daunting task to solve for us, researcher in this field. Specifically, there is not many research has been done in a local language like Indonesian Language. Nowdays, there are hundreds of systems that require NLP as their main functions. This could be a good opportunity for us to explore this opportunity. This paper contributes models from deep learning training in Indonesian conversation using dual encoder LSTM as well as vector representation models trained with three corpora using Skip-gram method. The results show that the models are able to make a good correlation, synonym from a particular word in the words representation of vector models. In addition, the conversation models resulted in 1.07 of perplexity in the Combined model in the 14000 th steps.

E-Learning in the Indonesian education community has been growing positively as an electronic information technology application through an internet network designed for the benefit of learning. But it still raises some obstacles in the implementation, as it relates to equity and access. In another aspect, e-learning also contains major weaknesses, namely the decrease in the frequency of direct contact between learners and between students with lecturers and other learning resources, so that learning does not experience completeness in all aspects of cognitive and non-cognitive. The weakness is also accompanied by the suspicion of the institution to the honesty of learners in carrying out the learning process. This study aims at building an e-learning model that can bring the intensity and capacity of learners actually through the virtual world through self-assessment based on image processing. The proposed steps are break into several parts: create a dataset of faces that can be used to evaluate given algorithm. Subsequently the enhancement using histogram equalization allows a strong enhancement on facial features. In addition, then the feature descriptor are selected using Viola and Jones [1]. Afterwards, those features will be saved to database. The next step is to build the system than allows the online learners are detected through our image processing approach then all the interaction will be verified using our proposed infrastructure. The results of the study: (a) Image Processing Based E-Learning model was built with a system capable of running in existing infrastructure so far, and (b) Image Processing Based E-Learning model proved valid and reliable both substantially, system and feasibility significant. The results of this study have implications that can be tested on a larger scale that is for some courses and in a particular department.

Digital Game-Based Learning (DGBL) has been tested and proved to be a viable solution for many educational challenges. This research aims to study several frameworks used to develop games for educational purposes and formulate a framework for the development of game-based learning, specifically for Strategic Studies in International Relations department, bina nusantara University. Literature reviews of previously completed research studied existing frameworks and models, including the Mechanics, Dynamics, Aesthetics (MDA) Framework and the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation (ADDIE) Model, as well as the First Principles of Learning for designing the content of the game. The result shows the implementation of these frameworks in the design process of the game, as well as the early development of the game presented as a prototype. © 2016 IEEE.

Genetic variation of somaclonal mutants from the 8th generation of Pekalongan accession rodent tuber (typhonium flagelliforme lodd.) based on RAPD-PCR analysis

Rodent tuber is a potential plant which can be developed as an anticancer drug. The rodent tuber plant has a low anticancer compound which does not have an economic value to be utilized on an industrial scale, particularly to explore as an anticancer drug. The material plant was used 30 clones of Rodent Tuber Pekalongan to increase its bioactive compounds using a combination of in vitro culture with gamma-ray irradiation. The selection process has been done until the 8th generation and obtained 14 somaclonal mutants that have higher bioactive compounds than control plant (non-mutant). This study aimed to analyze the genetic variation of 14 somaclonal mutants of rodent tuber using RAPD with 14 primers. The results were produced 513 total bands with the size of 200-5000 bp and 380 polymorphic bands between somaclonal mutants. OPB-18 primer produced the most polymorphic bands and five specific polymorphic bands of 1336 bp, 1070 bp, 901 bp, 861 bp and 728 bp in the somaclonal mutant M23 (20-4-2-1-1-1). OPD-20 primer produced seven specific polymorphic bands of 1574 bp, 1557 bp, 1501 bp, 1496 bp, 1234 bp, 1229 bp and 1086 bp in the M23 somaclonal mutant. The phylogenetic analysis showed that there were two main groups with the coefficient similarity between 0.77 and 0.83. The highest genetic variation obtained was found in the M23 somaclonal mutant with a genetic difference of 23% compared with control. There are five somaclonal mutants (M24, M22, M21, M16, M14) that have a genetic variation of up to 22% over the control. This study shows that OPB-18 and OPD-20 primers were efficient in detecting somaclonal mutant variants.

In its development, information technology has become an important in people's everyday lives. Security and confidentiality of the data on computer networks today become a very important issue and continues to grow. Some of the cases relating to computer network security today become a job that requires handling fee and security has been tremendous. Vital systems, such as the defense system, the banking system, the hospital system, and other systems, requires such a high level of security. This is mainly due to the advancement of the field of computer networks with the concept of open system so that anyone, anywhere and at any time, have the opportunity to access these vital areas. To maintain the security and confidentiality of messages, data, or information in a computer network would require some encryption to create messages, data, or information that is not read or understood by any person, except for eligible recipients.

Teachers who have a good level of engagement will be able to produce students who engage and excel. Level of national teachers’ engagement needs to be a reference to the level of educational success and equity of national education. The spread of geographically inaccessible Indonesian teachers is a barrier to these measurements. ITEI Android application developed by analysing the geographical problem, so that each teacher can participate wherever they are. The ITEI app is designed by implementing Android on the client side and load balancer on the server side. Android ITEI will feature a number of questions questionnaire to teachers. Meanwhile, the load balancer will distribute the answers to each server for processing. Load Balancer ensures fast data processing and minimize server failure. The results of the processing on the server will be sent back to Android in the form of profiling themselves ITEI teachers. While the data obtained and stored in the server can be used to measure the level of national teachers’ engagement. The result of this research is the design of ITEI application ready to be implemented in order to support the data collection process of teacher national engagement level.

The transfer of land has an impact on the decreasing of the agricultural land area, so it is necessary to plan the right cropping pattern as an effort to increase the productivity of agricultural cultivation. Also, Climate is one of the factors influencing the determination of cropping pattern in a region. Analysis of climatic characteristics in the determination of cropping pattern not only based on oldeman climatic classification. At the same time, the study of groundwater availability for plants and climogram of climatic elements is needed in determining planting schedule which is suitable for planting and determination of irrigation water supply, either the right amount of time. This study aims to identify and build spatial of the oldeman climate classification. It also determines the cropping pattern for seasonal crops based on the calculation of water balance and climogram (rainfall and air temperature) in each type of climate oldeman district of Cirebon and surrounding areas. Data used monthly rainfall data period 1981-2010 from BMKG Jatiwangi station and air temperature data, plant coefficient and the base map of Cirebon region. The analysis method includes classification of Oldeman climate type, spatial data processing, water balance calculation by Thorntwaite & Matter method and making climogram (rainfall and temperature) with: k = p0 + p1/FC; p0 = 1.000412351; p1 = -1.073807306 and determination of planting pattern of each type of oldeman

The presence of the internet can penetrate the boundaries between countries and accelerate the spread and exchange of information throughout the world. Although there are many positive impacts of internet use, there are also negative impacts that disturb the community. One can easily become a criminal (cyber crime) only by creating blogs, accounts, applications, programs, sites in various mass media and social media to commit fraud, data theft, illegal use of credit cards, the spread of pornographic content, online gambling, online prostitution, hate speech, radicalism, terrorism and so on. To overcome crime in the virtual space, the government has issued Law No. 19 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law No. 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions. But not all internet users know and understand the substance of the law. Therefore, the government, employers and institutions that are engaged in information and communication technology have the responsibility to socialize the law to the public to prevent crime in the virtual space. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
