The impulse fields reflected from the model of human body surface are analyzed by artificial neural network in time domain directly. The normal incidence of plane wave with Gaussian time form on the layered medium with losses is considered. The reflected electromagnetic field is obtained by FDTD method. Initial data for neural network analysis are the values of amplitude of electrical component of reflected field. As an example, the network is trained to determine the thickness of one of the layers of the medium. The stability of the determination in presence of interferences and variations of the medium parameters is investigated.

The Advanced Resource Connector (ARC) middleware introduced by NorduGrid is one of the basic Grid solutions used by scientists worldwide. While being well-proven in daily use by a wide variety of scientific applications at large-scale infrastructures like the Nordic DataGrid Facility (NDGF) and smaller scale projects, production ARC of today is still largely based on conventional Grid technologies and custom interfaces introduced a decade ago. In order to guarantee sustainability, true cross-system portability and standards-compliance based interoperability, the ARC community undertakes a massive effort of implementing modular Web Service (WS) approach into the middleware. With support from the EU KnowARC project, new components were introduced and the existing key ARC services got extended with WS technology based standard-compliant interfaces following a service-oriented architecture. Such components include the hosting environment framework, the resource-coupled execution service, the re-engineered client library, the self-healing storage solution and the peer-to-peer information system, to name a few. Gradual introduction of these new services and client tools into the production middleware releases is carried out together with NDGF and thus ensures a smooth transition to the next generation Grid middleware. Standard interfaces and modularity of the new component design are essential for ARC contributions to the planned Universal Middleware Distribution of the European Grid Initiative.

A new test vector compression/decompression scheme, namely a scheme of logic operation between adjacent bits (LOBAB) is presented, which is based on bitwise logic operation between itself and its previous bit. It turns all kinds of series including continuous series, such as a series of all 0s and all 1s, and reversal series, such as a series of 01 and 10, into series of all 0s by logic operation between adjacent bits. On one hand, the two kinds of series, continuous series and reversal series, are both taken into account, which decreases the number of division to the original test data. On the other hand, all series are turned into series of all 0s, which eases the process of encoding and decoding. Compared with other already known schemes this scheme has some characteristics, such as high compression ratio, easy control and implementation. The performance of the algorithm is mathematically analyzed and its merits are experimentally confirmed on the larger examples of the ISCAS89 benchmark circuits.

In this paper, it is demonstrated that solving an instance of the vertex cover problem of any graph G with m edges and n vertices can be implemented by Hadamard gates, NOT gates, CNOT gates, CCNOT gates, Grover's operators, and quantum measurements on a quantum computer. To test our theory, an NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) experiment for the simplest vertex-cover problem is also performed.
