Sentiment analysis traditionally faces significant challenges in low-resource languages, primarily due to the lack of robust, annotated datasets and tools tailored to specific linguistic contexts. This paper addresses these challenges within the Setswana language by leveraging its unique cultural and linguistic attributes that influence sentiment expression. We present a novel adaptation of transformer-based models, specifically PuoBERTa, bert-base-multilingual-cased, XLM-Roberta, afro-xlmr-base, multi-qa-mpnet-base-dot-v1, and setu4993/LaBSE, enhanced with contextual hints. These contextual hints are specially designed tokens embedded in the dataset to highlight key sentiment-bearing phrases, curated by native Setswana speakers. Our approach demonstrates that incorporating these contextual hints significantly enhances model performance, with PuoBERTa achieving an accuracy of 86.6%, an F1-score of 86.5%, and a Cohen's Kappa of 0.600. The findings suggest that the contextual hint methodology not only improves sentiment analysis in Setswana but also offers a scalable strategy for other under-resourced languages. This study contributes to the broader field of computational linguistics by illustrating how tailored data preprocessing combined with advanced machine learning techniques can effectively overcome the limitations posed by low-resource conditions. © 2024 IEEE.

The research on Variational Quantum Algorithms (VQAs) has gained significant momentum because of their promising practicality in the noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) era. Recent studies highlight the potential of VQAs in reinforcement learning (RL) by replacing classical components with parameterized quantum circuits (PQCs). Building on this, we propose a quantum Q-learning model for the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (CVRP), combining a PQC with an RL training process. We present a PQC for embedding both static and dynamic states in RL environments. The proposed PQC approximates the Q-value function by using the expectation values of different observables. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed PQC outperforms the existing PQC for the CVRP with fewer quantum resources. Furthermore, our method shows competitive performance compared to the classical counterpart. © 2024 IEEE.

Corrosion poses a significant challenge in industries due to material degradation and high maintenance costs, making effective inhibitors essential. Recent studies suggest expired pharmaceuticals as alternative corrosion inhibitors, but identifying the most efficient compounds can be time-consuming. This study applies machine learning models, particularly Gradient Boosting Regressor (GBR), to predict corrosion inhibition efficiency (CIE). The developed model is integrated into a web-based application, enabling real-time, accurate CIE predictions. Results show GBR as the more precise model for predicting CIE, with low error rates. The streamlit-based web application offers a user-friendly platform, facilitating quick identification of suitable inhibitors. It is flexible, supporting analysis beyond corrosion inhibitors, and significantly enhances the efficiency of the evaluation process. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

With global EV sales projected to reach 3.5 million units by 2023 and public charging stations increasing by 40%, effective management and optimization of charging infrastructure have become critical. While current research primarily focuses on models that address either users or charging stations, these approaches often overlook external factors such as weather and traffic conditions, which significantly impact driving patterns and energy consumption. The integration of these external variables into forecasting models is thus critical for enhancing prediction accuracy and infrastructure optimization. In this study, we conducted an in-depth analysis of EV charging patterns at highway rest areas. This study employed deep learning models, GRU, and LSTM architectures, trained using various data combinations. The experiments revealed that the inclusion of traffic data notably improves forecasting precision. In particular, the LSTM model demonstrated a 10.5% reduction in mean absolute percentage error(MAPE), decreasing the standard deviation from 4.95 to 3.87 when external factors were included. © 2024 IEEE.

As cryptocurrencies become more popular as investment vehicles, bitcoin draws interest from businesses, consumers, and computer scientists all across the world. Bitcoin is a computer file stored in digital wallet applications where each transaction is secured using strong cryptographic algorithms. It was challenging to forecast the future price of bitcoin due to its nonlinearity and extreme volatility. Several recent classic parametric models have been found with limited accuracy. To address the limitations and fill the existing research gaps, there is a need for a good prediction model which will provide the desired accuracy in the case of uncertainty and dynamism. This research suggested a deep learning-based framework for predicting and forecasting Bitcoin price. The research will be helpful for worldwide consumers and industries to take their decision on whether to invest or not. The research utilizes Yahoo! finance dataset for the period of 01-03-2016 to 26-02-2021 having 1828 samples. The experimental outcomes of the proposed Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model outperformed similar deep learning models by securing minimum loss and confirming that it can be used for future price prediction of the cryptocurrencies, which is helpful for the buyer to take their decision. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Negation handling is often overlooked in Indonesian sentiment analysis, making it difficult to automatically and accurately determine the polarity of sentences containing negation words. Negation is a challenging issue in natural language processing, as it can drastically alter the meaning of a sentence. For example, common Indonesian negation words such as 'tidak' (no/not), 'belum' (not yet), or 'jangan' (do not) can reverse the sentiment polarity in a text. Previous studies have proposed rule-based approaches, relying on linguistic rules or dependency parse trees to handle negation. However, negation is a complex problem that cannot be effectively addressed by simple rules alone, as they often lack flexibility in handling diverse sentence structures and negation complexities. Therefore, a more dynamic approach is needed, such as combining a dependency parser with an embedding layer, which can map syntactic relationships between words and learn vector representations of negation. This allows the model to flexibly determine the scope of negation words, enabling more accurate sentiment analysis even in complex sentences. This study evaluates the impact of negation handling on a transformer-based model, specifically XLNet, in Indonesian sentiment analysis. Using the proposed method, the model's F1 score increased by 2.13%, from 71.42% to 73.55%, compared to the baseline model. This demonstrates that the proposed negation handling strategy enhances sentiment prediction accuracy, making the model more effective at handling texts with negation. © 2024 IEEE.

Cardiovascular disease is one of the dangerous non-communicable disorders or diseases that has become one of the causes of death worldwide. Various studies have been conducted to prevent cardiovascular disease in the world. This study analyzed cardiovascular disease medical record data from the Kaggle public dataset by implementing correlational analysis combined with association rule mining to identify variables that are the predominant cause of cardiovascular disease. Correlational analysis can analyze the interrelationships between variables in a dataset, but not in depth. Association rule mining can identify the interrelationships of variables in the form of frequent item sets, which can be calculated for their support and confidence values. The result of this study is a combination of correlation analysis with association rule mining that can identify predominant variables to cause cardiovascular disease. Long-term desk work with lousy posture causes physical disabilities. To solve this problem, we have developed a smart chair with a controllable seat angle in our previous research. In order to control the seat angle and guide the user to the correct posture using this smart chair, it is necessary to investigate how the posture changes in response to the seat angle change. In this study, we first constructed a dataset by capturing posture data from 30 subjects while changing the seat angle of the smart chair. This dataset trained a model based on a graph neural network to predict posture in response to seat angle changes. We compared the model's prediction performance in the evaluation experiment depending on the training data and the body part. © 2024 IEEE.
