Harnessing enhanced stability and high-rate capability in lithium-ion batteries using synergistic SnS 2 /MoS 2 2D nanostructures with optimized conversion/alloying reactions

Recently, there has been a significant interest in the application of SnS 2 /MoS 2 2D nanostructure composites in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to their advantageous conversion, intercalation, and alloying reactions, leading to high capacity during charge and discharge cycles. In this study, we successfully synthesized SnS 2 /MoS 2 composites with a 2D-nanoplate morphology using a single-step hydrothermal method. Specifically, the optimized SnS 2 /MoS 2 -3:1 composite was tested as anodes in coin cell LIBs, demonstrating an impressive capacity of 710 mAh/g at a current density of 500 mA/g, along with outstanding stability (800 cycles) and remarkable rate capability compared to other composites. The excellent electrochemical performance of the SnS 2 /MoS 2 -3:1 composite can be attributed to the moderately coupled SnS 2 and MoS 2 2D-nanosheets, which provide short lithium-ion transportation lengths, low charge transfer resistance, and dominant capacitive behavior.

DSRC-enabled train safety communication system at unmanned crossings

Although wireless technology is available for safety-critical applications, few applications have been used to improve train crossing safety. To prevent potential collisions between trains and vehicles, we present a Dedicated Short-Range Communication (DSRC)-enabled train safety communication system targeting to implement at unmanned crossings. Since our application's purpose is preventing collisions between trains and vehicles, we present a method to calculate the minimum required warning time for head-to-head collision at the train crossing. Furthermore, we define the best- and worst-case scenarios and provide practical measurements at six operating crossings in the U.S. with numerous system configurations such as modulation scheme, transmission power, antenna type, train speed, and vehicle braking distances. From our measurements, we find that the warning application coverage range is independent of the train speed, that the omnidirectional antenna with high transmission power is the best configuration for our system, and that the latency values are mostly less than 5 ms. We use the radio communication coverage to evaluate the time to avoid collision and introduce the safeness level metric. From the measured data, we observe that the DSRC-enabled train safety communication system is feasible for up to 35 mph train speeds which is providing more than 25-30 s time to avoid the collision for 25-65 mph vehicle speeds. Higher train speeds are expected to be safe, but more measurements beyond the 200 m mark with respect to a crossing considered here are needed for a definite conclusion. A next-generation medium-energy (100 keV to 100 MeV) gamma-ray observatory will greatly enhance the identification and characterization of multimessenger sources in the coming decade. Coupling gamma-ray spectroscopy, imaging, and polarization to neutrino and gravitational wave detections will develop our understanding of various astrophysical phenomena including compact object mergers, supernovae remnants, active galactic nuclei and gamma-ray bursts. An observatory operating in the MeV energy regime requires technologies that are capable of measuring Compton scattered photons and photons interacting via pair production. AstroPix is a monolithic high voltage CMOS active pixel sensor which enables future gamma-ray telescopes in this energy range. AstroPix’s design is iterating towards low-power (∼1.5 mW/cm2), high spatial (500 µm pixel pitch) and spectral (2 building block of future large area AstroPix instruments, such as ComPair-2 and AMEGO-X. This payload will be the first demonstration of AstroPix detectors operated in a space environment and will demonstrate the technology’s readiness for future astrophysical and nuclear physics applications. As the use of the IoT becomes widespread, the speed of data aggregation from end devices and data linkages between clouds becomes critical. In IoT services, vast amounts of data are often aggregated from tiny amounts of data generated from a large number of end devices. Therefore, if an IoT service is adopted in the current network infrastructures, a significant overhead is inevitable, such as through activities including name resolution using DNS in IP. In addition, as the header size in HTTP packets is relatively large, the load on the network further increases. To solve these problems, Information Centric networking (ICN) is being widely studied. Unlike the IP, the ICN aims to reduce the load on the network and shorten the data access time from the clients by distributing the data. In this study, we examined the mechanism of data linkage by using the following: (i) the MQ telemetry transport (MQTT) included in the ICN and (ii) shared memory blocks in the interworking points. From the experimental results obtained, we confirm that the clients in the proposed network configuration can acquire data with a uniform data access time independent of the number of interworking points.

The current pandemic of SARS-CoV-2 has caused extensive damage to society. The characterization of SARS-CoV-2 prpfiles has been addressed by researchers globally with the aim of resolving this disruptive crisis. This investigation process is indispensable for an understanding of how SARS-CoV-2 behaves in human host cells. However, little is known about the systematic molecular mechanisms involved in the effect of SARS-CoV-2 infection on human host cells. Here, we have presented gene-to-gene regulatory networks in response to SARS-CoV-2 using a Bayesian network model. We examined the dynamic changes of the SARS-CoV-2-purturbated networks established by our proposed framework for gene network analysis, revealing that interferon signaling gradually switches to the subsequent inflammatory-cytokine signaling cascades. Furthermore, we have succeeded in capturing a COVID-19 patient-specific network in which transduction of these signalings is coincidently induced. This enabled us to explore local regulatory systems influenced by SARS-CoV-2 in host cells more precisely at an individual level. Our panel of network analyses has provided new insight into SARS-CoV-2 research from the perspective of cellular systems. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this current digital era, the video game is favorite especially among young people. Besides widely known as a form of entertainment, some messages or lessons can be learned from a video game that may affect the players. Conscious or unconscious, games have influenced many sectors of life, and it has been recognized as a serious game and no exception to religion. Human as a living creature, like or dislike or even as an atheist should believe with something out there, and religion is as a medium which connects human with something out there. The game as a representation of entertaining, intelligent application will represent joy and happiness in human life's activities, and inevitably games will influence human religion. In the end, religion game will help the human to increase their faith in those their belief based on their religion. Similar to Information technology which is implemented in business to increase revenue, the game as an entertaining intelligent application will increase human's faith. One kind of video game that provides it is religion video games which are the result of the incorporation between religion and video games. In this paper, we do a literature review about religion video games. We try to summarize how religious elements can be incorporated into a video game which can be seen from the parts, components, and approaches of the religion video game itself. We also try to summarize the positive side and controversies in religion video games. © 2019 IEEE.

Cyclin-dependent protein kinase 8 (CDK8) plays important roles in regulating fibrotic growth factors and inflammatory signaling pathways. Long-term chronic inflammation of the lungs can lead to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Abnormal alveolar epithelial regeneration leads to the release of various fibrotic growth factors and the activation of inflammatory cells. CDK8 regulates profibrotic cytokines broadly implicated in the pathogenesis of fibrosis. Therefore, inhibition of CDK8 is considered a promising strategy for treating IPF. Here, CDK8 inhibitors were designed and optimized using a fragment-based drug design strategy. Testing results revealed that 71% of the synthesized compounds inhibited CDK8 activity better than the original compound E966–0530. Of these compounds, compound 4k exhibited the strongest CDK8 enzyme-inhibiting activity (IC₅₀ =129 nM). Notably, it displayed a 13-fold increase in potency when compared to E966–0530. Experiments on toxicity and inhibition of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) protein expressions showed that compound 4k can inhibit EMT protein expressions, but with no significant cytotoxicity for alveolar epithelial cells. Compound 4k showed a potent inhibitory effect in cell migration assays. Furthermore, compound 4k significantly inhibited the phosphorylation of p-Smad3 and RNA Pol II, which are critical mediators in the fibrotic response signaling pathway. Compound 4k remarkably reduced TGF-β1-induced oxidative stress. The above results reveal optimized CDK8 inhibitors with potential use for IPF therapeutic treatment. © 2023 The Authors

Online Learning provides flexibility in the teaching model. Flipped learning is a learning model that combines Online Learning and Classical Learning or what is called blended learning. In flipped learning, the role of Information Communication technology (ICT) plays an important role in the success of student engagement. The application of technology and the framework used are some success factors in flipped learning. In this study reviewing the use of ICT articles and models / frameworks in flipped learning, there are 163 articles which are further synthesized based on content and Research Questions into 41 papers. From the results of the review, there are 3 factors that are considered in flipped learning, namely cognitive aspects, ICT utilization and models / frameworks.

Copper nanowire/multi-walled carbon nanotube com- posites as all-nanowire flexible electrode for fast-charging/ discharging lithium-ion battery

A novel lightweight three-dimensional （3D） composite anode for a fast-charging] discharging Li-ion battery （LIB） was fabricated entirely using one-dimensional （1D） nanomaterials, i.e., Cu nanowires （CuNWs） and multi-walled C nanotubes （MWCNTs）. Because of the excellent electrical conductivity, high-aspect ratio structures, and large surface areas of these nanomaterials, the CuNW-MWCNT composite （CNMC） with 3D structure provides significant advantages regarding the transport pathways for both electrons and ions. As an advanced binder-free anode, a CuNW-MWCNT composite film with a controllable thickness （~ 600 prn） exhibited a considerably low sheet resistance, and internal cell resistance. Furthermore, the random CuNW network with 3D structure acting as a rigid framework not only prevented MWCNT shrinkage and expansion due to aggregation and swelling but also minimized the effect of the volume change during the charge/discharge process. Both a half cell and a full cell of LIBs with the CNMC anode exhibited high specific capacities and Coulombic efficiendes, even at a high current. More importantly, we for the first time overcame the limitation of MWCNTs as anode materials for fast-charging]discharging LIBs （both half cells and full cells） by employing CuNWs, and the resulting anode can be applied to flexible LIBs. This innovative anode structure can lead to the development of ultrafast chargeable LIBs for electric vehides.
