ABSTRACTABSTRACTThe term metaverse is described as the next iteration of the Internet. Metaverse is a virtual platform that uses extended reality technologies, i.e. augmented reality, virtual reality, mixed reality, 3D graphics, and other emerging technologies to allow real-time interactions and experiences in ways that are not possible in the physical world. Companies have begun to notice the impact of the metaverse and how it may help maximize profits. The purpose of this paper is to offer perspectives on several important areas, i.e. marketing, tourism, manufacturing, operations management, education, the retailing industry, banking services, healthcare, and human resource management that are likely to be impacted by the adoption and use of a metaverse. Each includes an overview, opportunities, challenges, and a potential research agenda.

Detection Traffic Congestion Based on Twitter Data using Machine Learning

Twitter is one of the social media with text and image information that can be used as a source of information to detect traffic congestion in real-time. This study developed a system to detect traffic congestion in Indonesia, especially DKI Jakarta. The system displays the direction of the street according to the name of the street being passed and from each of the names of the streets, resulting in a tweet from the classification. The proposed method uses the Support Vector Machine (SVM) classification with the sigmoid kernel. This study shows that the SVM classification with the sigmoid kernel (libSVM) has an accuracy rate of 96.24% and that was increased by 2.68% when compared to SVM dot (mySVM). Based on the evaluation result of the proposed system compare to google maps application on detecting traffic congestion, the system could find a similar condition as many as 17 times from 25 of testing.

Breeding using the double haploid approach has been used in accelerating the rice breeding process. However, the main obstacle in the application of this technique in rice is the low level of callus formation and their regeneration into haploid plants. Based on these issues, this research is aimed at developing the best method for obtaining double haploid plants through anther culture using three kinds of aromatic rice of Indonesian local varieties. Anthers of Pendok, Genjah Arum, and Merah Wangi varieties were cultured in callus induction media which were either supplemented with different types of carbon sources, or auxins and ethylene inhibitors. However, the application of different sugar types did not significantly affect callus formation of Pendok and Genjah Arum. However, auxin treatment showed NAA to be more efficient for the callus induction of Pendok, while 2,4-D had no effect on callus induction in all tested varieties. The addition of ethylene inhibitor successfully induced callus formation of Merah Wangi varieties, while the rates of Pendok and Genjah Arum were not significantly affected. Callus of three plant lines were then regenerated into plantlet in regeneration media. Of the three callus varieties used, only Pendok could regenerate into plantlets and grow into adult haploid plants. © 2020, Korean Society of Crop science (KSCS).

Building artificial intelligence (AI) systems that adhere to ethical standards is a complex problem. Even though a multitude of guidelines for the design and development of such trustworthy AI systems exist, these guidelines focus on high-level and abstract requirements for AI systems, and it is often very difficult to assess if a specific system fulfills these requirements. The Z-Inspection® process provides a holistic and dynamic framework to evaluate the trustworthiness of specific AI systems at different stages of the AI lifecycle, including intended use, design, and development. It focuses, in particular, on the discussion and identification of ethical issues and tensions through the analysis of socio-technical scenarios and a requirement-based framework for ethical and trustworthy AI. This article is a methodological reflection on the Z-Inspection® process. We illustrate how high-level guidelines for ethical and trustworthy AI can be applied in practice and provide insights for both AI researchers and AI practitioners. We share the lessons learned from conducting a series of independent assessments to evaluate the trustworthiness of real-world AI systems, as well as key recommendations and practical suggestions on how to ensure a rigorous trustworthiness assessment throughout the lifecycle of an AI system. The results presented in this article are based on our assessments of AI systems in the healthcare sector and environmental monitoring, where we used the framework for trustworthy AI proposed in the Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI by the European Commission’s High-Level Expert Group on AI. However, the assessment process and the lessons learned can be adapted to other domains and include additional frameworks.

A Comparison of Prediction Methods for Credit Default on Peer to Peer Lending using Machine Learning

Social lending or peer to peer lending (p2p lending) has emerged as a viable digital platform where lenders and borrowers can do business without the involvement of financial institutions. P2p lending has gained significant momentum recently, with some platform has reached billion-dollar loan circulation. However, p2p lending platforms are not free from any form of risks. A higher return on investment for investor comes with a risk of the loan and interest not being repaid. For this purpose, this research proposes a tree-based classification method for predicting whether a loan will go bad or default before the loan is approved. The high dimensionality of the dataset needs to be processed and chosen carefully. This paper proposes a Binary PSO with SVM to perform feature selection for the dataset and Extremely Randomized Tree (ERT) and Random Forest (RF) as the classifiers. In this research, BPSOSVM-ERT and BPSOSVM-RF are compared with several performance metrics. The experimental results show BPSOSVM can produce subset of features without decreasing the performance from the original features and ERT can outperform RF in several performance metrics.

Optimum nutrition intake in daily dietary habit has a significant role for children growth. Nevertheless, the mistakenness in the fulfillment of nutrition still concerned. It happens because an individual does not have much knowledge about the energy content of food and food combination to meet the nutrition requirement. The objectives of this research are to facilitate an individual to obtain the optimum nutrition intake from their daily dietary habit. This paper proposes a Binary Particle Swarm Optimization (BPSO) algorithm to find the optimum combination of food portion and food option for an individual daily dietary habit. The food data is obtained from ’Tabel Komposisi Pangan Indonesia ’ book which contains more than 1600 kind of Indonesian food. The results show that BPSO provides an optimum nutrition intake accuracy of 99.14%. Moreover, the nutritionist is already validated that this experiment is succeed in recommending a variation of daily dietary habit that meet an optimum nutrition intake for an individual. Based on this result it can be conducted that BPSO can provide the better accuracy of optimum nutrition intake than Genetic Algorithm (GA), while GA can only provide an optimum nutrition intake accuracy of 97.87%.

Iterative Network for Image Super-Resolution

Single image super-resolution (SISR), as a traditional ill-conditioned inverse problem, has been greatly revitalized by the recent development of convolutional neural networks (CNN). These CNN-based methods generally map a low-resolution image to its corresponding high-resolution version with sophisticated network structures and loss functions, showing impressive performances. This paper provides a new insight on conventional SISR algorithm, and proposes a substantially different approach relying on the iterative optimization. A novel iterative super-resolution network (ISRN) is proposed on top of the iterative optimization. We first analyze the observation model of image SR problem, inspiring a feasible solution by mimicking and fusing each iteration in a more general and efficient manner. Considering the drawbacks of batch normalization, we propose a feature normalization (F-Norm, FN) method to regulate the features in network. Furthermore, a novel block with FN is developed to improve the network representation, termed as FNB. Residual-in-residual structure is proposed to form a very deep network, which groups FNBs with a long skip connection for better information delivery and stabling the training phase. Extensive experimental results on testing benchmarks with bicubic (BI) degradation show our ISRN can not only recover more structural information, but also achieve competitive or better PSNR/SSIM results with much fewer parameters compared to other works. Besides BI, we simulate the real-world degradation with blur-downscale (BD) and downscale-noise (DN). Generalized eigenvalue problems (GEPs) play an important role in the variety of fields including engineering, machine learning, and quantum chemistry. Especially, many problems in these fields can be reduced to finding the minimum or maximum eigenvalue of GEPs. One of the key problems to handle GEPs is that the memory usage and computational complexity explode as the size of the system of interest grows. This paper aims at extending sequential quantum optimizers for GEPs. Sequential quantum optimizers are a family of algorithms that iteratively solve the analytical optimization of single-qubit gates in a coordinate descent manner. The contribution of this paper is as follows. First, we formulate the GEP as the minimization or maximization problem of the fractional form of the expectations of two Hermitians. We then show that the fractional objective function can be analytically minimized or maximized with respect to a single-qubit gate by solving a GEP of a 4×4 matrix. Second, we show that a system of linear equations characterized by a positive-definite Hermitian can be formulated as a GEP and thus be attacked using the proposed method. Finally, we demonstrate two applications to important engineering problems formulated with the finite-element method. Through the demonstration, we have the following bonus finding; a problem having a real-valued solution can be solved more effectively using quantum gates generating a complex-valued state vector, which demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The Quality of Service (QoS) for applications is becoming increasingly important with the expansion of the Internet. A software-defined network offers flexibility and scalability in the use of network resources, like a meter table, which enables OpenFlow switches to measure flow rates and can be used to realize the rate limiter QoS. However, this drops packets when the flow-rate is over the limit, making the TCP congestion window reduce and grow periodically. The QoS of the upper layer using TCP will suffer regularly because of packet losses and bandwidth oscillation. Therefore, we propose a QoSTCP protocol using the meter and Rate Limiting Notification (RLN) to improve the QoS of TCP in SDN. The meter in the switch measures the flow rate to mark RLNs in the packets when the flow rate exceeds the threshold. A QoSTCP sender gets marking information to reduce the window size proportional to the marking packet ratio to avoid packet drop. We also provide a theoretical analysis to estimate when to mark packets at specific thresholds under two kinds of bandwidth demands in QoS, maximum and average rate. In order to verify QoSTCP performance, we implement a Two Rate Three Color Marker (trTCM) meter to measure the flow rate and mark RLNs using a programming protocol-independent Packet Processors (P4) switch. To simplify our implementation, the existing Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN) and Data Center TCP (DCTCP) are modified to emulate QoSTCP behavior. Experiment results confirm not only that QoSTCP provides a consistent rate guarantee by avoiding packet drop but also that it matches our theoretical analytical results.
