Currently, environmental protection and intelligence system are topics of interest in smart homes and intelligent buildings. This work represents an environmental prediction study of the closed room which installed a split-type air-conditioning system and a newly designed sensor hub using a feed-forward back-propagation artificial neural network-based prediction for human thermal comfort and indirectly concerned to the growth or existence of diseases, contagious diseases and allergies. The RPROP algorithm was utilized to train the closed room environmental parameters that get from sensor hub especial relative humidity in the ANN model and validate the model by using cohen's kappa and ROC curve to represents the degree of accuracy and reliability. The result obtained from the ANN trained data agreed closely with those obtained from a sensor hub with the high perfect agreement. The benefit of the ANN-based strategy in this study could be utilized for the design of a sensor hub that can realize the adaptive adjustment of environmental parameters through the air conditioning system.

High-figure of merit (FoM) plasmonic microwave resonator is researched as a non-invasive on-body sensor to monitor the human body's blood glucose variation rate in adults for biomedical applications, e.g., diabetic patients. The resonance frequencies of the proposed sensor are measured to be around [Formula: see text] GHz and [Formula: see text] GHz over the frequency band of DC to 6GHz which are suitable for monitoring interstitial fluid (ISF) changing rate. The [Formula: see text] sensor is experimentally wrapped on the human body arm to monitor the blood glucose changing rate via amplitude and frequency variations of the sensor. Amplitude variation and frequency shift are measured to be around 7 dB and 30 MHz, respectively. The measured results demonstrate the high precision of the proposed approach to depict a valid diagram for glucose changing rate due to good impedance matching of the designed microwave sensor and human body. The sensor is shown to enhance the sensitivity by a factor of 5 compared to the conventional ones.

Brain lesion segmentation plays a crucial role in diagnosis and monitoring of disease progression. DenseNets have been widely used for medical image segmentation, but much redundancy arises in dense-connected feature maps and the training process becomes harder. In this paper, we address the brain lesion segmentation task by proposing a Dense-Gated U-Net (DGNet), which is a hybrid of Dense-gated blocks and U-Net. The main contribution lies in the dense-gated blocks that explicitly model dependencies among concatenated layers and alleviate redundancy. Based on dense-gated blocks, DGNet can achieve weighted concatenation and suppress useless features. Extensive experiments on MICCAI BraTS 2018 challenge and our collected intracranial hemorrhage dataset demonstrate that our approach outperforms a powerful backbone model and other state-of-the-art methods.

Dysregulation of RNA splicing processes is intricately linked to tumorigenesis in various cancers, especially breast cancer. Cdc2-like kinase 2 (CLK2), an oncogenic RNA-splicing kinase pivotal in breast cancer, plays a significant role, particularly in the context of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), a subtype marked by substantial medical challenges due to its low survival rates. In this study, we employed a structure-based virtual screening (SBVS) method to identify potential CLK2 inhibitors with novel chemical structures for treating TNBC. Compound 670551 emerged as a novel CLK2 inhibitor with a 50% inhibitory concentration (IC₅₀) value of 619.7 nM. Importantly, Compound 670551 exhibited high selectivity for CLK2 over other protein kinases. Functionally, this compound significantly reduced the survival and proliferation of TNBC cells. Results from a cell-based assay demonstrated that this inhibitor led to a decrease in RNA splicing proteins, such as SRSF4 and SRSF6, resulting in cell apoptosis. In summary, we identified a novel CLK2 inhibitor as a promising potential treatment for TNBC therapy. © 2024 The Authors. Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) are the new trend to collaborate service among the Internet of Thing (IoT) devices. The principal mechanism is controlling or monitoring by computer-based algorithms and integration among users and devices. Since CPS is a distributed system, communication among devices is strictly essential to realize an integrated service. The current traditional Internet has some issues about inter-connectivity among devices due to Network Address Port Translation (NAPT), different IP standards, etc. As a result, the current system usually employs a client-server model because a server is always accessible from any clients. However, the scalability of the client-server model will reach the limitation due to the enormous number of CPS devices. The authors have designed a new overlay network technology for cyberphysical communication called CYber PHysical Overlay Network over Internet Communication (CYPHONIC). CYPHONIC can provide end-to-end accessibility and IP mobility over IPv4 and IPv6 networks and realizes secure inter-communication among nodes based on Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN). This paper designs the detail implementation of the simple prototype system that supports a basic communication mechanism of CYPHONIC. The prototype system consists of a cloud service for an authentification and an end-node management, and an end-node. It also provides the accessibility to IPv4 private networks from the Internet even if a NAPT router blocks incoming packets from the Internet. We present an 850-nm vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) constructed for a wide operating temperature range from 25°C to -50°C sub-freezing temperature, demonstrating 40.1-GHz at -50°C. The optical spectra, junction temperature, and microwave equivalent circuit modeling of a sub-freezing 850-nm VCSEL between -50°C and 25°C are also discussed. Reduced optical losses, higher efficiencies, and shorter cavity lifetimes at sub-freezing temperatures are the leading causes of the improved laser output powers and bandwidths. The e-h recombination lifetime and the cavity photon lifetime are shortened to 113 and 4.1 ps, respectively. Could potentially supercharge VCSEL-based sub-freezing optical links for applications in frigid weather, quantum computing, sensing, aerospace, etc.

We as a human can not avoid the disease, and when we are sick, we need to see a practical doctor. However, in term of location and patient's right for changing the practical doctor, then the patient when moving from one practical doctor to others will have similar and repeated questions such as medicine allergy, history of diseases and so on. Moreover, become a problem for a vulnerable patient such as unconscious patient, disabled or elderly when seeing a new practical doctor and at the end of the day, it will become malpractice. Few of the causes of the problem above are the lack of health education, delay in diagnosing/misdiagnosis, and inaccessible healthcare facilities and with the increasing popularity of telemedicine and IoT across the world, then we need to apply IoT in order to help the patient. In this paper, a framework is created and designed for an IoT-integrated mobile application for the patient where this mobile application is expected to be implemented. © 2019 IEEE.

The desire to share and unite remote digital assets motivated the development of the classical internet, the enabler of the entire 21st century economy and our modern way of life. As we enter the quantum era, it is to be expected there will be a similar demand for networking quantum assets, motivating a global quantum internet for bringing together the world's quantum resources, leveraging off their exponential trajectory in capability. We present models for quantum networking, how they might be applied in the future, and the implications they will have. Socially, economically, politically and geostrategically, the upcoming era of quantum supremacy will be as significant for the 21st century as the transistor was for the 20th. The inherently different scaling in the computational power of quantum computers fundamentally changes the dynamics of how they will operate in the future. Given their high expected initial cost, a client/server model for outsourcing computation will be essential for enabling the accessibility and proliferation of this technology, and ensuring its economic viability. We therefore anticipate the emergence of cloud quantum computing, a model for outsourcing quantum computations to the network. We argue that economic efficiency will mandate that all future quantum computers be united into a single global virtual quantum computer, offering exponentially more power to all network participants than if they were to keep their resources to themselves. This model for the allocation of computational resources is uniquely quantum, with no classical analogue, completely altering the economic landscape for the future of computation. Given the sensitivity of much of the data to which future quantum computers are going to foreseeably be applied, protocols for encrypted quantum computation will be essential - the outsourcing of computations that neither an eavesdropper nor even the server performing the computation can spy upon. All-optical image processing based on metasurfaces is a swiftly advancing field of technology, due to its high speed, large integrability and inherently low energy requirements. So far, the proposed devices have been focusing on canonical operations, such as differentiations to perform edge detection across all objects in a complex scene. Yet, undesired background noise and clutter can hinder such operations, requiring target selection with digital post-processing which inherently limits the overall accuracy, efficiency and speed. Here, we introduce an optical solution for real-time size-selective image processing and experimentally demonstrate the concept with a metal-dielectric-metal film performing a spatial band-pass filter in momentum space. We show high-resolution (~ 0.9 μm) edge detection and real-time dynamic denoising, ideally suited for bio-imaging applications and target recognitions. This innovative k-space analog operation expands the scope of nonlocal flat optics for analog image processing, ushering in opportunities for ultra-compact and multifunctional image processors. © 2025, CC BY.

Lotus seed is well known as traditional food and medicine,but its skin is usually *** studies have shown that lotus seed skin contains a high concentration of proanthocyanidins that have multi-functions,such as antioxidation,anti-inflammation,and anti-cancer *** the present study,we aimed to isolate and purify the proanthocyanidins from lotus seed skin by acetone extraction and rotary evaporation,identify their chemical structures by HPLC-MS-MS and NMR,and further investigate the antioxidant properties of the extract purified by macroporous resin (PMR) from lotus seed skin both in vitro and in *** results showed that PMR mainly contained oligomeric proanthocyanidins,especially dimeric procyanidin B1 (PB1),procyanidin B2 and procyanidin *** it had limited ability to directly scavenge radicals in vitro,PMR could significantly enhance the expressions of antioxidant proteins via activation of nuclear factor-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)-antioxidant response element (ARE) pathway in HepG2 *** data revealed that PB1,a major component in PMR,stabilized Nrf2 by inhibiting the ubiquitination of Nrf2,which led to subsequent activation of the Nrf2-ARE pathway,including the enhancements of Nrf2 nuclear translocation,Nrf2-ARE binding and ARE transcriptional ***,the in vivo results in high fat diet-induced mice further verified the powerful antioxidant property of *** results revealed that lotus seed skin is a promising resource for functional food development.
