Gas bubble evolution is an important phenomenon in many electrochemical processes and it is highly sensitive to the surface properties. Here we visualize the gas bubble dynamics on the surface of different graphene substrates during hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) using atomic force microscopy combined with scanning electrochemical microscopy. The low overpotential and low surface hydrophobicity of few-layer graphene formed on C-phase SiC causes the uniform distribution of hydrogen nanobubbles, which easily depart from the surface during the reaction. Conversely, the high overpotential and more hydrophobic surface of HOPG induces hydrogen bubbles to linger on the surface for an extended duration, leading to its accumulation and the subsequent formation of microbubbles. This in-situ nanoscale electrochemical mapping of hydrogen bubble dynamics provides new insight into electrocatalytic HER that occurs on non-metal electrodes. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

We study the simplest quantum lattice spin model for the two-dimensional (2D) cubic ferromagnet by means of mean-field analysis and tensor network calculation. While both methods give rise to similar results in detecting related phases, the 2D infinite projected entangled-pair state (iPEPS) calculation provides more accurate values of transition points. Near the phase boundary, moreover, our iPEPS results indicate that it is more difficult to pin down the orientation of magnetic easy axes, and we interpret it as the easy-axis softening. This phenomenon implies an emergence of continuous U(1) symmetry, which is indicated by the low-energy effective model and has been analytically shown by the field theory. Our model and study provide a concrete example for utilizing iPEPS near the critical region, showing that the emergent phenomenon living on the critical points can already be captured by iPEPS with a rather small bond dimension. © 2022, CC BY.

The search for reliable protein biomarker candidates is critical for early disease detection and treatment. However, current immunoassay technologies are failing to meet increasing demands for sensitivity and multiplexing. Here, the authors have created a highly sensitive protein microarray using the principle of single-molecule counting for signal amplification, capable of simultaneously detecting a panel of cancer biomarkers at sub-pg/mL levels. To enable this amplification strategy, the authors introduce a novel method of protein patterning using photolithography to subdivide addressable arrays of capture antibody spots into hundreds of thousands of individual microwells. This allows for the total sensor area to be miniaturized, increasing the total possible multiplex capacity. The purpose of this initiative is to ensure that citizens use social media to access information about the state of the city. Social media application offers benefits in the form of a channel of communication between the community and the government or the group that has public interest. Through this application, the public could channel complaints about public services. Perception becomes the important key for this condition because user action is determined by their perception toward the government e-services. The result of standard measurement for customer satisfaction on government organization is used to help find the weakness of the service and correct it. The interface is made to be more user-friendly to ensure the effective service. So, it is necessary to develop the system continuously. Perceived quality is one of the important determinants of the success of social media application, therefore needs identification of the user's perception and expectations and involving becomes the key to success besides the good quality that will increase the trust and satisfaction of users. Evaluation of social media applications is needed so that it can provide recommendations to the provincial government of DKI Jakarta related to what things can be done to improve community service. © 2018 IEEE.

Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness, affecting millions of people worldwide. It is a chronic eye condition that damages the optic nerve and, if left untreated, can lead to vision loss and a decreased quality of life. Therefore, there is a need to explore practical and reliable mechanisms for glaucoma identification. This study systematically reviews deep-learning approaches for glaucoma identification using retinal fundus images from 2018 to 2024. Compared to existing survey studies, we cover the latest research, including several public retinal fundus image datasets, and focus on segmentation, classification based on convolutional neural networks and vision transformers, and explainability. The findings of this study, including comparisons of existing methods and key insights, will assist researchers and developers in identifying the most suitable techniques for glaucoma detection. © 2025 The Authors

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a pervasive developmental disorder that will affect children in terms of interpersonal communication, social interaction, and imaginative levels in play. Many therapies to help the motor neuron performance is one of them Pretend Play. Pretend Play is a therapy that invites children in playing to demonstrate something else and tell how to use objects that are considered in the child's imagination. However, in the era of highly developed technology, many fields have used the Augmented Reality method as a visualization of various aspects. With this method researchers will present the therapeutic visualization of the block to 3D transportation tool that is useful for strengthening motor nerves and visual strength of the child. The system can run well during marker detection, marker movement, and 3D object display with the accuracy of precision angle and distance between virtual world with real world reach 100% with angle 0 at distance 31 cm and the maximum distance from the marker is 46 cm and the maximum angle is 30. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Z-bar shoeing has been implemented to relieve uniaxial palmar pain arising from the structures in the affected region. However, there have been no reports on the long-term application of the z-bar shoe during exercise training regimens. A 10-year-old mixed-breed show jumping pony presented with an occasional short stride and abnormal rhythm while turning during routine exercise for three months. Gait analysis conducted by trotting off on both hard and soft surfaces showed no lameness in the straight line on both types of surfaces. However, right forelimb lameness was detected with moderate and slight pain accompanying hard surface lunging in clockwise and counterclockwise directions, respectively. Sequential examination of uniaxial perineural anaesthesia confirmed that the pony suffered from medial palmar pain on the right foreleg. Mild distal border irregularity of the navicular bone was also observed radiographically. The z-bar shoe was designed relative to the palmar digital anaesthesia and subsequently applied on the lame leg. The pony demonstrated a marked reduction in lameness severity immediately post-Z-bar shoeing. Physical exercise was resumed a few days after the shoeing practice. The pony underwent routine exercise training while continuously fitting with the Z-bar shoe for 24 weeks without recurrent lameness or complications. Application of z-bar shoe showed the potential for long-term foot pain management during an exercise training regimen in a show jumping pony with uniaxial palmar pain. © 2022 Kanokpan Sanigavatee et al.

Epidemiological studies have linked herbicides and Parkinson’s disease (PD), with the strongest associations resulting from long exposure durations. Paraquat (PQ), an herbicide, induces PD-like syndromes and has widely been accepted as a PD mimetic. Currently, there is still no cure to prevent the progression of PD, and the search for effective therapeutic ways is urgent. Recently, the impairing activity of sirtuins (SIRTs), such as SIRT1, may correlate with PD etiology. However, the nonspecificity of SIRT1 agonists has made the protective mechanisms against PD unclear and hampered the therapeutic application of SIRT1. Thus, this study investigated the protective mechanism and therapeutic potential of SRT1720, a more specific agonist for SIRT1, in alleviating the toxicity of PQ-induced cellular and animal models of PD. Here we show that SRT1720 alleviates PQ-induced toxicity in cell and animal models. Genetic silencing and pharmacological inhibition of SIRT1 attenuated SRT1720’s protection against PQ-induced toxicity. Moreover, SRT1720 not only attenuated PQ-induced increased oxidative stress and mitochondrial free radical formations but also decreased mitochondrial membrane potential. Furthermore, SRT1720 reversed PQ-induced decreased PGC-1α levels and mitochondrial biogenesis. Although PQ and SRT1720 elevated NRF2 and antioxidative enzyme levels, only PQ decreased antioxidative enzyme activity but not SRT1720. NRF2 and PGC-1α silencing attenuated SRT1720 protection against PQ-induced toxicity. SRT1720 targeted SIRT1 and activated downstream PGC-1a and NRF2 signalings to prevent PQ-induced toxicity involving oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. Thus, SRT1720 might have therapeutic potential in preventing PD. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Recognizing steps taken by people walking is a technique used in a method for estimating a person's indoor position called Pedestrian Dead Reckoning (PDR), and also plays a key role in health-care applications such as pedometers and activity trackers. Generally, accelerometers are used for step recognition, because the sensor signals exhibit clear periodic changes as the user walks. As an alternative, step recognition methods that use angular velocity or magnetic sensors to measure hip rotation have also been proposed. In this article, we propose another step recognition method that uses an air-pressure sensor. We discovered that air-pressure sensor values vary periodically as the user walks in cases such as when a smartphone is held in a hand and the user consciously swings their arms while walking, when it is placed in a sealed case attached to the waist, or when placed in a trouser pocket. We perform step recognition by applying a simple algorithm to these periodic signals, with digital filtering, extreme value detection, and thresholding. Experiments confirmed that steps were estimated with an error rate of approximately 7.5%. Performing sensing with alternate sensors in this way can help reduce the number of sensors needed in a device or system, contributing to reducing power consumption and device size. As an example, activity monitors sometimes calculate the number of steps using accelerometers, and the number of stairs ascended or descended using an air-pressure sensor. These research results could be used to implement an activity monitor that only uses an air-pressure sensor.

Nickel and manganese compounds are widely applied as efficient battery-type active materials for energy storage devices, due to high theoretical capacities and abundant redox states for generating redox reactions to store charges. Morphology plays significant roles on energy storage ability. Structure directing agent (SDA) is widely reported to have ability for modulating configurations of active materials and to achieve excellent surface properties. In this work, it is the first time to use NH4BF4 and NH4HF2 as structure directing agents for synthesizing nickel manganese compounds derived from ZIF67 as active materials of energy storage devices. Bimetallic compounds are composed of nickel hydroxide and manganese oxide, which presents the favorable two-dimensional flower-like structure with high surface area and abundant redox states. The largest specific capacitance (CF) of 1358.2 F/g corresponding to the capacity of 226.4 mAh/g are achieved for the bimetallic compound synthesized using the Ni to Mn precursor ratio of 1 to 1 (NiMn11). The energy storage device assembled using NiMn11 and reduced graphene oxide on Ni foams presents a maximum energy density of 11.45 Wh/kg at the power density of 0.35 kW/kg, and excellent long-term stability with the CF retention of 85.6% and Coulombic efficiency of 87.5% after 10,000 cycles. © 2023
