The popularity of Indonesian traditional food has been declining due to the increasing influence of foreign cuisine. This study presents the development method that combining Game Development Life Cycle (GDLC) with Experiential Game Learning Design Framework and evaluation of a serious game "NusaVenturas" using usability, learning outcome, and Game Experience Questionnaire (GEQ) that designed to introduce, promote interest, educate, and preserve knowledge of Indonesian traditional foods. "NusaVenturas" is a unique 2D serious game that integrates puzzle-platformer elements with time-management cooking mechanics. The study involved 37 participants aged 18 to 23. Evaluation results indicate that "NusaVenturas" significantly enhances players' knowledge of Indonesian traditional foods, with statistical analysis confirming the significance of the findings. © 2024 The Authors.

The amount of illegal wildlife trade cases increases every year in Indonesia. This causes some unique Indonesian wildlife to become endangered or even extinct. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to raise public awareness to illegal wildlife trade issue by using a game as its media to reduce the number of cases of illegal wildlife trade in Indonesia. The game made in this research will be developed using the GDLC development method and 2021.3.11f1 version of Unity as its game engine. To evaluate the game that has been developed in this research, a comparation to other related games is conducted and resulted in the game that has been developed in this research is significantly better than other related games in Challenge, Learnability and Concentration aspects (p © 2024 The Authors.

The efficiency of a wireless power transfer system changes with the load. To solve this problem, an impedance matching method has been developed. Conventional methods control the equivalent load to the optimal value using circuit parameters and the detected load voltage and current. However, they require estimating the mutual inductance M in case of misalignment or an airgap change. M-estimation has some issues such as a limited operating range. In this study, we developed a high-efficiency operation method that can respond to a change in M without its estimation by controlling the currents in the coils to equalize them. We confirmed that the developed method enables highly efficient operation without M-estimation despite misalignment. © 2025 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

A visual navigation method based on results of semantic segmentation showed interesting results in previous researches. The most significant problem of the method is that the moving performance is affected by the segmentation accuracy, which strongly depends on the training data even though SOTA methods are adopted. To create high-quality dataset for this application without huge human efforts, the authors tries to generate datasets for semantic segmentation from a 3D scanned data composed of colored point clouds. In this study, we investigate what kinds of variations are effective to construct a classifier: variation of augmentation considering shadows, shooting angles, and shooting locations. Experimental results using actual images for evaluation and generated dataset for training captured at the course of Tsukuba Challenge, which is the famous competition for autonomous moving robots in Japan, showed that adding shadows in training datasets improved the mIoU but random changes to the shooting angle and location did not always work well. By the result, it is shown that augmentation considering the characteristic of the target environment becomes important for practical use. © 2023 IEEE.

Incidents that threaten lives can occur unexpectedly, highlighting the importance of immediate first aid. Studies show that Virtual Reality (VR)-based Serious Games (SG) are excellent alternatives for learning, especially for physical training, as they provide immersive and realistic scenarios where users can learn and practice their skills in a safe environment. Therefore, this research proposes the design of a VR-based SG for learning first aid procedures. A total of 31 participants tested the game's usability using both VR controllers and hand tracking, playing the game with both tools in random order, and then completing the XR-GUQ and Interaction Categories questionnaire. The results indicate that controllers offer higher usability than hand tracking. However, the game can still effectively utilize both interaction tools, given their satisfactory usability ratings. © 2024 The Authors.

In recent years, speech emotion recognition (SER) and emotive talking head generation have drawn significant attention. However, existing methods either focus predominantly on emotion recognition without considering its intensity or produce emotionally consistent talking heads, neglecting the rich expressiveness of human interactions. Addressing these limitations, our study aims to bridge these two areas, proposing an innovative talking-head generation approach that further enhances the realism of the generated video. Within the SER domain, we develop a dual-level model that not only improves the accuracy of identifying emotions in speech data but also assesses their intensity. This dual-capacity model significantly enhances the depth and subtlety of emotional recognition, achieving an industry-leading accuracy rate of 73.5%. On the talking head front, this work generates emotionally expressive talking heads that reflect both emotional state and intensity. Beyond this, the model also simulates human facial dynamics like blinking, thus offering a more comprehensive and realistic representation of human speech. These advances effectively address the shortcomings of existing methods and provide a new avenue for the accurate portrayal of emotional intensity in synthesized talking heads. Extensive experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of our approach over existing methodologies in both SER and talking head generation. © 2024 The authors and IOS Press.

In this paper, the elastic-plastic displacement shape of the specimen surface during the experiment of compression perpendicular to the grain of the wood was measured using digital image correlation. And, it becomes possible to predict the transition of partial compressive load perpendicular to the grain, by using the stress-strain relation of allover compression perpendicular to the grain. This result is useful in making predictions for the partial compression perpendicular to the grain and the yield strength of wood joints. © 2023 Architectural Institute of Japan. The development of the industrial Internet of Things and smart grid networks has emphasized the importance of secure smart grid communication for the future of electric power transmission. However, the current deployment of smart meters and wireless communication methods presents several security concerns that must be addressed to ensure sustainable and resilient smart grid networks for Industry 5.0, with a focus on consumer-centric technologies. In this context, we propose a privacy-focused authentication solution for secure consumer-centric demand response management in smart grid networks, incorporating consumer electronics. Our proposed protocol utilizes blockchain-based authentication to enhance resistance against potential attacks and ensure the integrity of demand response data. Additionally, we have incorporated a PUF to prevent physical attacks. We have conducted informal and formal security analyses to verify the effectiveness of our proposed protocol against various threats and to confirm the session key security. Our comparison study has demonstrated that our protocol provides superior security and added functionalities, with lower computation and communication costs compared to similar protocols. Furthermore, we have measured the computational time for implementing the blockchain component of our protocol while considering the impact of varying numbers of block additions and transactions per block. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

This research explores the critical impact of dietary habits on health, addressing the lack of awareness regarding nutritional content that leads to issues such as malnutrition. The proposed mobile application utilizes the YOLOv8 algorithm with a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture, deployed on the Roboflow server, a local MySQL database server, and ChatGPT. The architectural framework of this application is integrated through the NodeJs server via an API system embedded within the Android application. Despite this approach, the study highlights the need for further refinement in the accuracy of the ingredients' object detection model. The refined YOLOv8 model, trained on an extensive dataset of 24,583 images across 13 food ingredient classes, outperforms the initial YOLOv8 model trained on 9,867 images. Improvements are notable, particularly in addressing misclassifications of ingredients such as beef, pork, onion, and egg in the initial model. However, the YOLOv8 model can still be improved by introducing more ingredient variations and expanding the training dataset. This application can detect multiple food ingredients from an image and evaluate their nutritional value, specifically in calorie count. It also provides tailored recipes to help users meet their daily nutritional requirements, offering a practical solution for users to achieve their dietary goals. This research connects computer vision and nutrition, providing insights for developing practical solutions in this domain. © 2024 IEEE.
