This paper investigates recent advancements and methodologies in Automatic Text Summarization, a field that has garnered significant attention for its ability to condense lengthy documents into concise summaries while preserving key information and themes. The study examines the development of Automatic Text Summarization models, including both extractive and abstractive approaches. Additionally, the research delves into the use of graph convolutional networks for text representation in e-commerce product review summarization. The study employs an e-commerce dataset in conjunction with a graph convolutional network model, covering stages from preprocessing and tokenization to constructing graph-based data representation. The expected outcome is a graph-structured representation of input text data derived from Indonesian-language e-commerce product reviews.

The development of research in the field of image generation can now be one of the tools to introduce a country's artistic culture. Indonesia is known as one of the countries with cultural diversity. Batik is one of Indonesia's most iconic cultural arts. GAN studies on batik have produced good images but still have a long training process. Several GAN techniques have been developed to create synthetic batik, one of the pioneering ones is BATIK-GAN which proposes a double flow model. Several GAN techniques have been developed to create good images, one of the best known and most widely used as a model is DCGAN due to its lightweight training and ability to produce good synthetic images. In this research we propose the Light Wasserstein Generative Adversarial Network model with Gradient penalty (LWGAN-GP) to be able to generate batik motif images. This model is proposed to produce a model that can perform a faster training process but can still produce good images. The experimental results of LWGAN-GP compared with DCGAN show that the computation time of DCGAN is faster than that of LWGAN-GP but LWGAN-GP is superior to the variety of images produced and is able to remain stable (without collapse mode).

Automatic question generation for bahasa indonesia examination using copynet

In educational institutions, an educator is responsible for assessing the student's knowledge grasp through examination. Creating exam questions, even the low-level factoid questions, is time-consuming, especially for inexperienced educators. Therefore, this study aims to create a sequence-to-sequence model using CopyNet by exploiting its copying mechanism advantage to automatically generate Bahasa Indonesia factoid questions to ease the educator's burden. Indonesian records in the TyDi QA dataset are used as the model input. GRU and Bi-GRU are employed as the CopyNet encoder, while LSTM is used as the CopyNet decoder. The model that utilizes GRU as the encoder achieves BLEU1, BLEU2, BLEU3, BLEU4, and ROUGE-L scores of 0.28, 0.19, 0.14, 0.1, and 0.32, respectively. Bi-GRU utilization as the model encoder achieves BLEU1, BLEU2, BLEU3, BLEU4, and ROUGE-L scores of 0.26, 0.17, 0.12, 0.09, and 0.30, respectively. Models using either encoder still achieve low scores. However, compared with the previous work, the result is still on par regarding the BLEU score. Further examination found that the generated questions do not adhere to semantic and syntactical correctness. Adding more records to the dataset and utilizing a more advanced architecture like CopyBERT are encouraged to improve the model performance in future work. Despite the result, this study has shown that CopyNet, primarily designed for text summarization or single-turn dialogue, can be tailored for factoid question generation.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) classification is a widely utilized instrument for personality assessment. However, it frequently encounters challenges due to imbalanced data distributions across personality dimensions. It is paramount to address this issue to enhance the accuracy and reliability of personality predictions. Most current research in this field is focused on data balancing techniques, such as oversampling and undersampling, which have been demonstrated to enhance model performance. Nevertheless, there is a dearth of research exploring text augmentation methods, particularly synonym replacement, for this purpose. This study examines the efficacy of synonym replacement as a data augmentation technique for MBTI classification. Experiments are conducted with varying levels of synonym replacement (10%, 30%, 50%, 70%, and 90%) to assess its impact on model accuracy and F1 scores across the four MBTI dimensions. Our findings indicate that low levels of synonym replacement, particularly at 10% to 50%, can enhance the performance of the model in predicting MBTI dimensions. On the other hand, a higher number of replaced words in the synonym replacement augmentation can harm the model's performance. These observations suggest that synonym replacement can effectively address data imbalance in MBTI classification, although its application must be tailored to specific personality dimensions.

Depressive Disorders (DD) is one of the most prevalent mental disorders in the world that may lead to suicide cases. To prevent the latter, ubiquitous early detection systems may be effective. Recent studies have since researched the development of such systems by exploiting several forms of data, including video, audio, Ecological Momentary Assessments (EMA), and passive sensing data using sensors embedded in mobile devices. To summarize the trends, opportunities, and existing challenges in this field, this study reviewed 15 papers to answer four research questions. EMA was the most popular data to be used in this task, but other approaches, such as using video, audio, and typing behaviors, may be considered due to the subjectivity of EMA. These data were typically recorded using smartphones and analyzed using Machine Learning (ML). However, most of the developed systems had yet to be implemented. Overall, it was concluded that further studies may need to explore usages of more objective data in multimodal approaches as well as consider using Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) to deploy these systems to provide more effective and efficient diagnoses. Future studies must also take into account the existing challenges of the data and infrastructures, such as the weaknesses of several data types, limitations of mobile devices, as well as the challenges of diagnosis approaches. © 2023 IEEE.

In daily driving, reverse parking into a garage often leads to collision accidents. However, current studies mostly focus on analyzing drivers' eye movements while using a certain specific parking style, lacking comparative research on different parking behaviors. In this study, 200 experiments were conducted with 20 participants of varying driving experience to collect their eye movement data during different types of reverse parking into the garage. Based on the collected eye-tracking data, we try to analyze how driving experience impacts reverse parking behaviors. The findings shown that reveal significant differences in gaze behavior and fixation positions between novice and experienced drivers. Novice drivers exhibit more erratic gaze patterns, focusing more on the right door mirror and frequently shifting their gaze between areas of interest. To be specific, in situation A (entering the garage from the right side), novice drivers feel insecure due to their inability to visually assess road conditions directly, prompting them to rely more on the right door mirror. On the other hand, in situation B (entering the garage from the left side), reliance on interior mirrors is reduced for both novice and experienced drivers. Insights from these findings could enhancing overall driving safety and efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.

In smart retail, the problem in grocery product image classification is fine-grained image representation. Product variants are characterized by differences in color, text, and size. However, while the process of image classification involves quite complex stages, there is still a misclassification of grocery products. This is because there are many areas of the image being calculated, which makes the models not optimally calculate the most important area. This paper aims to identify a number of patch image formations as an important area of the product by involving Binary Robust Invariant Scalable Keypoints (BRISK) as a feature descriptor, K-Means Clustering, and the elbow method. First, we experiment with the BRISK keypoint feature for grocery products with different categories of brands. Second, the keypoint features are clustered using K-Means clustering. Lastly, the number of clusters is analyzed using the elbow method to find the optimal number. The result shows that the number of clusters from 8 products has variations of 5, 5, and 6 clusters. Finally, each cluster represents an important area in forming patches to support fine-grained grocery product image classification.

The session-based social recommendation task aims to leverage knowledge from social networks to predict user actions based on their sessions. Most previous studies pay more attention to complex transitions to get item embedding in various ways and neglect the importance of users' role in social network. Therefore, we design a High-level Feature Fusion Network to address these issues. Firstly, to better leverage the knowledge from social networks, we use a heterogeneous graph neural network to enhance the user/item representation. Secondly, a user-based graph attention network is adapted to learn the user's deep interest evolution process. Next, user and session features are transferred to our feature fusion module to generate fusion features, and the original and fusion features are combined to make recommendations. Extensive experiments on three public datasets show that the proposed model outperforms existing state-of-the-art models. © 2023 IEEE.

The rapid development of new communication technologies such as social software and email has brought convenience, but it has also increased the distance between people. This research aims to capture micro-expressions in real-time through smart glasses and uses deep learning technology to develop a real-time emotion recognition system based on RGB color values to improve interpersonal communication. We trained a multi-layer fully deep neural network (DNN) model using the CASME2 dataset to effectively learn the association between facial expressions and emotions. The experimental results of model show that the emotion classification accuracy of the system reaches 95% on several test samples. The system is adapted to run on smart glasses, the emotion recognition results are immediately fed back to the screen of the smart glasses and displayed to the user in the form of an emotion label. The experimental results of system show that the system can achieve accurate emotion recognition, help users better understand the psychological state of the communication object, and improve the communication environment and quality. In addition, the system can also store communication records and emotion analysis results to help users understand their own communication performance and changes in others’ emotions, thus improving communication skills and abilities. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2024.

Learn from Balance: Rectifying Knowledge Transfer for Long-Tailed Scenarios

Knowledge Distillation (KD) transfers knowledge from a large pre-trained teacher network to a compact and efficient student network, making it suitable for deployment on resource-limited media terminals. However, traditional KD methods require balanced data to ensure robust training, which is often unavailable in practical applications. In such scenarios, a few head categories occupy a substantial proportion of examples. This imbalance biases the trained teacher network towards the head categories, resulting in severe performance degradation on the less represented tail categories for both the teacher and student networks. In this paper, we propose a novel framework called Knowledge Rectification Distillation (KRDistill) to address the imbalanced knowledge inherited in the teacher network through the incorporation of the balanced category priors. Furthermore, we rectify the biased predictions produced by the teacher network, particularly focusing on the tail categories. Consequently, the teacher network can provide balanced and accurate knowledge to train a reliable student network. Intensive experiments conducted on various long-tailed datasets demonstrate that our KRDistill can effectively train reliable student networks in realistic scenarios of data imbalance. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.
