Belief propagation (BP) detection is a technique for separating and detecting incoming signals with minimal complexity in massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. However, because of the interference and noise that remain in the received signals even after attempting to remove them through conventional techniques, errors manifest in the transmitted messages. Due to the MIMO channel's numerous loops, a message containing mistakes spreads across the factor graph leading to a degradation in the BP's convergence properties and detection performance. In this paper, we propose a BP detection using deep image prior (DIP) with deep neural network (DNN)-trained scaling factor. By applying DIP to the BP detection algorithm, we achieve a reduction in residual interference and noise. Post DIP application, there is a modification in the variance of both interference and noise components. To align it more accurately with its true value and enhance message reliability, we adjust the variance using scaling factors trained through DNN-based damped BP (DNN-dBP). Using computer simulations, we demonstrate that applying DIP helps decrease the power of the residual interference and noise after removing the interference at each iteration in the BP detection. It is also shown that the proposed method improves the detection performance compared to the normal BP detection, BP detection without DIP when training the scaling factors of the variance, and BP detection to which DIP is applied without training the scaling factors of the variance.

Water quality inspection (WQI) is one of the primary ways to ensure the safe utilization of water resources, and complicated data modeling, fusion and analysis play a significant role in seeking the resource with the best water quality. Nevertheless, the challenges of missing data, relatively large differences in decision results and bounded rationality owned by decision-makers (DMs) in terms of WQI still exist nowadays. Thus, from the aspect of stable and behavioral decision-making in multi-granularity incomplete intuitionistic fuzzy information systems (MG-IIFISs), the paper investigates a comprehensive multi-attribute group decision-making (MAGDM) approach for the application of WQI. First, the concept of MG-IIFISs is built by modeling MAGDM problems with intuitionistic fuzzy numbers (IFNs), then a new transformation scheme is constructed for transforming MG-IIFISs into multi-granularity intuitionistic fuzzy information systems (MG-IFISs) based on the similarity principle. Second, three types of multigranulation intuitionistic fuzzy probabilistic rough sets (MG IF PRSs) are developed by referring to the MULTIMOORA (Multi-Objective Optimization by Ratio Analysis plus the full MULTIplicative form) method. Afterwards, attribute weights are objectively calculated based on the best-worst method (BWM), and a new stable and behavioral MAGDM approach is constructed by means of the TODIM (an acronym in Portuguese for interactive multi-criteria decision-making) method. At last, a case study in the setting of WQI is conducted with the support of a UCI data set, and sensitivity analysis, comparative analysis and experimental analysis are investigated to display the validity of the proposed approach. In general, the proposed approach improves the stability of decision results via MULTIMOORA and BWM, and also fully considers the bounded rationality of DMs' psychological behaviors from the aspect of the TODIM method, which has certain advantages in the community of MAGDM studie

Motivated by the success of recent deep learning researches on radar, we consider a deep learning based matrix factorization method for suppressing the high range-angle side-lobes in random frequency diversity array (FDA) radars. While the existing deep matrix factorization approach is designed for real-valued situations and signals of FDA radars are complex-valued cases, we propose two methods to extend the existing approach into complex-valued framework: 1) adjusting the neural network structures and activation functions for complex-valued operations, and 2) constructing a real-valued representation of the original complex-valued input. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed methods outperform traditional ones in multi-target scenarios. © 2024 IEEE.

The visual system of arthropods, called the compound eye, has distinctive features such as a wide field of view, high-speed motion detection, and infinite depth of field. These features have attracted researchers to build artificial compound eyes. However, the compound eye is limited in spatial resolution by its structural constraints such as the number and size of ommatidia that compose the compound eye. These constraints also can be found in the existing artificial compound eye. In previous work, a design method overcame these limitations and achieved resolution improvements by increasing the acceptance angle of ommatidia and using numerical optimization based on compressive sensing (CS). However, the limitation is that prior information such as a sparsifying basis is needed to solve the numerical optimization problem, and obtaining the solution to this problem is computationally time-consuming. In this paper, we propose a deep learning-based artificial compound eye. The deep learning architecture takes a measurement from the compound eye as input and learns how to reconstruct the original image. The experimental result demonstrates that the proposed deep learning approach provides improved performance in image reconstruction for the artificial compound eye. © 2023 SPIE.

In high-stakes sectors such as network security, IoT security, accurately distinguishing between normal and anomalous data is critical due to the significant implications for operational success and safety in decision-making. The complexity is exacerbated by the presence of unlabeled data and the opaque nature of black-box anomaly detection models, which obscure the rationale behind their predictions. In this paper, we present a novel method to interpret the decision-making processes of these models, which are essential for detecting malicious activities without labeled attack data. We put forward the Segmentation Clustering Decision Tree (SCD-Tree), designed to dissect and understand the structure of normal data distributions. The SCD-Tree integrates predictions from the anomaly detection model into its splitting criteria, enhancing the clustering process with the model's insights into anomalies. To further refine these segments, the Gaussian Boundary Delineation (GBD) algorithm is employed to define boundaries within each segmented distribution, effectively delineating normal from anomalous data points. At this point, this approach addresses the curse of dimensionality by segmenting high-dimensional data and ensures resilience to data variability and perturbations through flexible boundary fitting. We transform the intricate operations of anomaly detection into an interpretable rule's format, constructing a comprehensive set of rules for understanding. Our method's evaluation on diverse datasets and models demonstrates superior explanation accuracy, fidelity, and robustness over existing method, proving its efficacy in environments where interpretability is paramount. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. In real world applications of multiclass classification models, misclassification in an important class (e.g., stop sign) can be significantly more harmful than in other classes (e.g., no parking). Thus, it is crucial to improve the recall of an important class while maintaining overall accuracy. For this problem, we found that improving the separation of important classes relative to other classes in the feature space is effective. Existing methods that give a class-sensitive penalty for cross-entropy loss do not improve the separation. Moreover, the methods designed to improve separations between all classes are unsuitable for our purpose because they do not consider the important classes. To achieve the separation, we propose a loss function that explicitly gives loss for the feature space, called class-sensitive additive angular margin (CAMRI) loss. CAMRI loss is expected to reduce the variance of an important class due to the addition of a penalty to the angle between the important class features and the corresponding weight vectors in the feature space. In addition, concentrating the penalty on only the important class hardly sacrifices separating the other classes. Experiments on CIFAR-10, GTSRB, and AwA2 showed that CAMRI loss could improve the recall of a specific class without sacrificing accuracy. In particular, compared with GTSRB's second-worst class recall when trained with cross-entropy loss, CAMRI loss improved recall by 9%. © 2023 The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers.

Transparent conductive oxides exhibit attractive optical nonlinearity with ultrafast response and giant refractive index change near the epsilon-near-zero(ENZ) wavelength, originating from the intraband dynamics of conduction electrons. The optical nonlinearity of ENZ materials has been explained by using the overall-effective-mass and the overall-scattering-time of electrons in the extended Drude model. However, their response to optical excitation is yet the last building block to complete the theory. In this paper, the concept of thermal energy is theoretically proposed to account for the total energy of conduction electrons exceeding their thermal equilibrium value. The time-varying thermal energy is adopted to describe the transient optical response of indium-tin-oxide(ITO), a typical ENZ material. A spectrally-resolved femtosecond pump-probe experiment was conducted to verify our theory. By correlating the thermal energy with the pumping density, both the giant change and the transient response of the permittivity of ITO can be predicted. The results in this work provide a new methodology to describe the transient permittivities of ENZ materials, which will benefit the design of ENZ-based nonlinear photonic devices.

—The fully supervised deep convolutional neural network (CNN) cannot detect the discriminant local information that is responsible for spatial transformations in high-resolution remote sensing images. To address the various types and missing labels of natural disasters, a new deep multi-instance convolutional neural network (DMCNN) model for disaster classification in high-resolution remote sensing image is presented in this article. Specifically, based on sample enhancement and atrous spatial pyramid pooling, we first extract and integrate the features via the CNN structure to obtain the instance feature of bags in the image. Besides, introducing a prototype learning layer with distance measure, the instance features extracted from pretrained CNN are mapped into a series of prototype instance features with bag-level. Subsequently, all instance features from prototype and bag take part in disaster detection and image classification. Finally, we conduct extensive experiments on xBD dataset and discussions from qualitative and quantitative aspects. Experimental results show that the proposed DMCNN model achieves better classification accuracy of natural disaster from high-resolution remote sensing images compared to traditional CNNs, and effectively improves the disaster classification performance with weakly supervised from high-resolution remote sensing images. © 2023 The Authors.

Edit distance as a string measurement metric is often used to help detect misspellings in languages. This paper aims to compare two string spelling error correction algorithms for the Indonesian language. The N-gram, Jaro-Winkler distance, and Levenshtein distance algorithms are used to determine whether they can accurately correct typological errors in the Indonesian language. Moreover, this study utilized KNIME tools to process the data from beginning to end. The data was retrieved from news in Indonesia. After the experiment on N from 1 to 12, the results obtained for the comparative analysis proved that Jaro-Winkler distance performed better than Levenshtein distance for comparing smaller strings like words and names. However, Levenshtein distance performs as well as Jaro-Winkler distance started from four strings. Finally, both Jaro-Winkler distance and Levenshtein distance algorithm got the best performance accuracy for eight strings with an accuracy of 99.52 percent. The result of this study is also presented that both algorithms can support word error correction for the Indonesian language.
