In an edge-cloud system, mobile devices can offload their computation intensive tasks to an edge or cloud server to guarantee the quality of service or satisfy task deadline requirements. However, it is challenging to determine where tasks should be offloaded and processed, and how much network and computation resources should be allocated to them, such that a system with limited resources can obtain a maximum profit while meeting the deadlines. A key challenge in this problem is that the network and computation resources could be allocated on different servers, since the server to which a task is offloaded (e.g., a server with an access point) may be different from the server on which the task is eventually processed. To address this challenge, we first formulate the task mapping and resource allocation problem as a non-convex Mixed-Integer Nonlinear Programming (MINLP) problem, known as NP-hard. We then propose a zero-slack based greedy algorithm (ZSG) and a linear discretization method (LDM) to solve this MINLP problem. Experiment results with various synthetic tasksets show that ZSG has an average of 2.98% worse performance than LDM with a minimum unit of 5 but has an average of 6.88% better performance than LDM with a minimum unit of 15.

Music Artist Classification is a challenging task in Music Information Retrieval. There exist methods that are based on either signal processing features or deep learning algorithms. While signal processing based approaches do perform well, the challenging task implies that signal processing alone does not suffice to provide good features for the task. Other approaches that rely on deep learning based techniques learn representations from large amount of labelled data. A limitation to this approach is the requirement for large amount of annotated corpus for obtaining a good set of parameters. In this work, we pose auxiliary signal processing based tasks for a deep learning network that includes predicting the harmonic-percussive and vocal-non vocal components of audio files. We show that training on a combination of these tasks provides us with a well trained CNN with a good set of parameters; which can then further be used for the artist classification task. We use a Multi-Task framework and a popular deep learning architecture to train the model jointly on the artists classification and the auxiliary tasks. We observe that vocal-non vocal separation along with alignment prediction proves to be a good auxiliary task for artist classification, improving the baseline by 6%.

A flexible transparent modify dipole antenna printed on PET film is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna was designed to operate at 2.4GHz for ISM applications. The impedance characteristic and the radiation characteristic were simulated and measured. The proposed antenna has good performance. It can be easily mounted on conformal shape, because it is fabricated on PET film having the flexible characteristic. © 2012 IEEE.

In this paper, we give formal semantics to speech acts for argumentative dialogues in the context of an agent-oriented programming language. Our approach to giving formal semantics to such speech acts uses operational semantics and builds upon existing work that provides computationally grounded semantics for agent mental attitudes such as beliefs and goals.

Data Visualization plays an important role for patterns and trends analysis in trillion of data rows Big Data analysis, where the data can be represented in some graphical forms. Hence, the data could be more comprehensible in its visual summary in dashboards and storyboards. This study aims to discuss some issues and challenges in visualizing COVID-19 vaccination datasets. There are some possible issues in data visualization, as it is not easy and may be challenging to produce a good dashboard that are interesting and easy for viewers to understand. Therefore, this study focuses on some issues that may arise during performing a data visualization on the COVID-19 dataset. In this study, there are three dashboards have been studied, which are the COVID-19 tracker, its effectiveness, and its acceptance. The first two dataset are derived from Ministry of Health Malaysia bank data, whereas the third dataset is from a survey to support this analysis. The selected attributes are states, the number of people who have received the vaccine as adults, children, and teenagers, and the number of people who already received boosters, and reasons to not get a booster. The visualization issues found within the dashboard are mis-choice of colors, mis-choice of visual object type, lack of interactivity, and plotting too much data. As a result, this proposed alternative solutions for those issues such as color deliberately, pick a suitable visual object, create an interactive dashboard, and reduce the information overload in visualizing the data.

Each study program requires students to take several elective courses. The appropriateness of the elective courses taken with the student's abilities can be one of the factors for the success of student studies. This research focuses on building a content-based filtering recommendation system that provides several elective courses recommendation according to the student's academic history. The proposed recommendation systems' results are based on preprocessed word items from courses taken by the user. The weighted cosine similarity between the elective courses syllabus and the user profiles is calculated. Moreover, the experiment employed a dataset of the CSUGM course syllabus. The proposed recommendation system is evaluated in two ways, i.e., questionnaire method and validation method. The questionnaire method obtains an assessment of system performance, hence the validation method to get the average accuracy. The questionnaire was conducted by involving thirty students of the CSUGM undergraduate program. The experimental results show that the proposed recommendation system has a good performance proven by the percentage of recommendation diversity 81.67%. Furthermore, the accuracy of the proposed recommendation system has an average of 64%.

This work portrays the development of wireless smart shoe for gait analysis. Force sensitive resistors (FSRs) and resistive bend sensor were employed by mounting onto a shoe for detection of pressure distribution beneath the foot during normal and abnormal walking. In the present study, we have been interested in 3 walking postures including normal walking, tiptoe walking and dragging foot walking. Wireless sensor network (WSN) based on ZigBee technology was employed in this work for data communication. The Principal component analysis (PCA) was used for pattern recognition in the analysis part. It was shown that the smart shoe was successful to classify between normal gait pattern and some abnormal gait patterns.

This paper reports the measurements of MPI communication benchmarking on Khaldun cluster which ran on Linux-based IBM Blade HS21 Servers with Intel Xeon dual quad-core processor and Gigabit Ethernet interconnect. The measurements were done by using SKaMPI and IMB benchmark programs. Significantly, these were the first results produced by using SKaMPI and IMB to analyze the performance of Open MPI implementation on Khaldun cluster. The comparison and analysis of the results of point to point and collective communication from these two benchmark programs were then provided. It showed that different MPI benchmark programs rendered different results since they used different measurement techniques. The results were then compared to the experiment's results that were done on cluster with Opteron dual quad-core processor and Gigabit Ethernet interconnect. The analysis indicated that the architecture of machines used also affected the results. © 2011 IEEE.
