Software Engineering is a primary subject in many computer science departments of universities worldwide. Its purpose is to help students understand and apply both disciplined and systematic methods to software development. Due to the ubiquity and visibility of software in the modern world, the study, education and research into software engineering and its practice have retained a high level of interest. Distinct in nature from other computer science courses, this discipline borrows from and is influenced by other fields such as, systems analysis, design, management, quality control, and communication. In this paper, the practices and methodologies used, developed, and evaluated in the Software Engineering Education (SEE) will be outlined. Further improvements have been planned through the Software Engineering Education Methodology Exploration (SEE_ME) project.

This study aims to find out the effect of computer based teaching activities on the academic achievement and retention of technical programme Students of computer Programming on Vocational Foreign Language in computer Technologies Department. The study was conducted in Vocational School of Technical science in Suleyman Demirel University with 30 students of computer programming. The experimental group (15 students) was taught with computer assisted instructional software and the control group (15 students) was taught with traditional methods. Achievement test was developed to measure the success of second class students of Vocational Foreign Language lesson was used as pretest, posttest and retention test. As a consequence, it is seemed that the application of computer assisted instructional methods used Vocational Foreign Language lesson is more effective than traditional instructional methods in terms of students’ academic achievement and retention.

We consider how to optimally allocate investments in a portfolio of competing technologies using the standard mean-variance framework of portfolio theory. We assume that technologies follow the empirically observed relationship known as Wright's law, also called a "learning curve" or "experience curve", which postulates that costs drop as cumulative production increases. This introduces a positive feedback between cost and investment that complicates the portfolio problem, leading to multiple local optima, and causing a trade-off between concentrating investments in one project to spur rapid progress vs. diversifying over many projects to hedge against failure. We study the two-technology case and characterize the optimal diversification in terms of progress rates, variability, initial costs, initial experience, risk aversion, discount rate and total demand. The efficient frontier framework is used to visualize technology portfolios and show how feedback results in nonlinear distortions of the feasible set. For the two-period case, in which learning and uncertainty interact with discounting, we compare different scenarios and find that the discount rate plays a critical role. Several advantages can be obtained by allowing multi-agent systems to easily access ontologies, for example, in scenarios where agents make their decisions based on the knowledge provided by ontologies. Thus, this paper presents an infrastructure to allow the use of web ontologies in different agent-oriented platforms. The agents use this infrastructure layer as a tool for storing, accessing and querying domain-specific OWL ontologies. As a result, this layer allows an integration of agent platforms with semantic web data and ontologies. We exemplify in practice how agents, coded in one such platform, can use the proposed access layer to ontological reasoning engines, as well as which features can be obtained from it. The performance of this semantic infrastructure is evaluated and compared against usual knowledge representation in agent programming.

Summary Background Across low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs), one in ten deaths in children younger than 5 years is attributable to diarrhoea. The substantial between-country variation in both diarrhoea incidence and mortality is attributable to interventions that protect children, prevent infection, and treat disease. Identifying subnational regions with the highest burden and mapping associated risk factors can aid in reducing preventable childhood *** We used Bayesian model-based geostatistics and a geolocated dataset comprising 15 072 746 children younger than 5 years from 466 surveys in 94 LMICs, in combination with findings of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2017, to estimate posterior distributions of diarrhoea prevalence, incidence, and mortality from 2000 to 2017. From these data, we estimated the burden of diarrhoea at varying subnational levels (termed units) by spatially aggregating draws, and we investigated the drivers of subnational patterns by creating aggregated risk factor *** The greatest declines in diarrhoeal mortality were seen in south and southeast Asia and South America, where 54·0% (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 38·1-65·8), 17·4% (7·7-28·4), and 59·5% (34·2-86·9) of units, respectively, recorded decreases in deaths from diarrhoea greater than 10%. Although children in much of Africa remain at high risk of death due to diarrhoea, regions with the most deaths were outside Africa, with the highest mortality units located in Pakistan. Indonesia showed the greatest within-country geographical inequality; some regions had mortality rates nearly four times the average country rate. Reductions in mortality were correlated to improvements in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) or reductions in child growth failure (CGF). The BDI (Beliefs, Desires, Intentions) architecture is commonly used for the development of systems of agents situated in complex and dynamic environments. The BDI architecture represents a consolidated model that counts upon substantial theoretical and practical contributions. However, despite the strengths of symbolic models, there are some aspects of the cognitive phenomena that give rise to the need of a conceptual model that has to establish itself between the perceptual and symbolic levels. Taking into account that the use of conceptual representations can improve the recognition of objects as well as the agent communication process, the work presented here comprises the design and implementation of an integration of a conceptual-space level into the BDI agent architecture. Such integration is developed on top of the resources of the Jason platform and the CSML API. The evaluation of the implications of such a conceptual inference model for BDI agents includes the development of an application directed to the aid of users who are blind or visually impaired, as briefly discussed in this paper.

Transformative technologies are enabling the construction of three dimensional (3D) maps of tissues with unprecedented spatial and molecular resolution. Over the next seven years, the NIH Common Fund Human Biomolecular Atlas Program (HuBMAP) intends to develop a widely accessible framework for comprehensively mapping the human body at single-cell resolution by supporting technology development, data acquisition, and detailed spatial mapping. HuBMAP will integrate its efforts with other funding agencies, programs, consortia, and the biomedical research community at large towards the shared vision of a comprehensive, accessible 3D molecular and cellular atlas of the human body, in health and various disease settings.
