This paper proposes a Multiple-Agent system to construct an ontology of the English translations of the meanings of Noble Quran. None of the current agent based systems have solved the problem of ontology learning from text documents. The Noble Quran has an unconventional style of discourse containing recurring themes and a plethora of versatile figures of speech making it an inimitable and unique literature. An array of Intelligent Agent instances help in automate the task of ontology learning. The existing vocabulary, concordances, and Index of the Quran which are readily available in electronic form are used as data sources by the multiple agents for the ontology construction process. Alsoan agent starts up with relatively small seed ontology prepared by domain experts as a starting point for the construction of a comprehensive ontology. WordNet lexicon is used to cluster the index terms utilizing the Hypernym, Holonym, Synonym relationships provided by WordNet. This paper has also formulated the OTCM (Ontology Term Coverage Metric) to evaluate the generation of ontology at each phase.

Estimating human pose in static images is a challenging task due to the high dimensional state space, presence of image clutter and ambiguities of image observations. In this paper we propose a method to automatically detect human poses in a single image, based on a 2D model combined with anthropometric data. Furthermore, we use artificial neural networks to detect high level information about the human posture. Experimental results showed that the proposed technique performs well in non trivial images.

In this paper, we propose a generic model and a controller design for a class of underactuated aerial vehicles, namely for unmanned aerial vehicles whose primary support against gravity is thrust. The approach followed is based on energetic consideration and uses the formalisms of port-Hamiltonian systems and bond graphs. The controller is designed for both stabilization during hovering and for trajectory tracking tasks. The competency of the model and the performance of the controller are validated in simulation.

This paper reports the measurements of MPI communication benchmarking on Khaldun cluster which ran on Linux-based IBM Blade HS21 Servers with Intel Xeon dual quad-core processor and Gigabit Ethernet interconnect. The measurements were done by using SKaMPI and IMB benchmark programs. Significantly, these were the first results produced by using SKaMPI and IMB to analyze the performance of Open MPI implementation on Khaldun cluster. The comparison and analysis of the results of point to point and collective communication from these two benchmark programs were then provided. It showed that different MPI benchmark programs rendered different results since they used different measurement techniques. The results were then compared to the experiment's results that were done on cluster with Opteron dual quad-core processor and Gigabit Ethernet interconnect. The analysis indicated that the architecture of machines used also affected the results.

Optical electronic nose (olfactory sensing) technologies have recently become a convenient technique to identify the quality of food and beverage products based on the odor classification. In this paper, we reported an optical-based electronic nose system consisting of thin-film sensing materials, array of light emitting diode (LED), photo-detector and pattern recognition program. The organic mixtures thin film gas sensor was prepared by spin coating of Zinc-2,9,16,23- tetra-tert-butyl 29H,31H-phthalocyanine (ZnTTBPc), Zinc-5,10,15,20-tetra-phenyl-21H,23H-porphyrin (ZnTPP) and manganese(III) 5, 10, 15, 20-tetraphenyl-21H,23H-porphyrin chloride (MnTPPCI) onto a clean glass substrate. The electronic nose system was developed by using the low-cost LED array as a light source. Then the light intensity that is transmitted through the organic thin film during the experiment was detected by the color light to frequency converter device (photo-detector). The ability of this system was tested by using volatile organic compound (VOCs) vapors such as methanol, ethanol, and isopropanol. Principal component analysis (PCA) has been used as the pattern recognition for this electronic nose system. The result confirms that the sensing layer that composed of the three types of organic compounds described the groups of chemical vapors by using the array of LED.

Background: Competitions in text mining have been used to measure the performance of automatic text processing solutions against a manually annotated gold standard corpus (GSC). The preparation of the GSC is time-consuming and costly and the final corpus consists at the most of a few thousand documents annotated with a limited set of semantic groups. To overcome these shortcomings, the CALBC project partners (PPs) have produced a large-scale annotated biomedical corpus with four different semantic groups through the harmonisation of annotations from automatic text mining solutions, the first version of the Silver Standard Corpus (SSC-I). The four semantic groups are chemical entities and drugs (CHED), genes and proteins (PRGE), diseases and disorders (DISO) and species (SPE). This corpus has been used for the First CALBC Challenge asking the participants to annotate the corpus with their text processing solutions. Results: All four PPs from the CALBC project and in addition, 12 challenge participants (CPs) contributed annotated data sets for an evaluation against the SSC-I. CPs could ignore the training data and deliver the annotations from their genuine annotation system, or could train a machine-learning approach on the provided pre-annotated data. In general, the performances of the annotation solutions were lower for entities from the categories CHED and PRGE in comparison to the identification of entities categorized as DISO and SPE. The best performance over all semantic groups were achieved from two annotation solutions that have been trained on the SSC-I. The data sets from participants were used to generate the harmonised Silver Standard Corpus II (SSC-II), if the participant did not make use of the annotated data set from the SSC-I for training purposes. The performances of the participants' solutions were again measured against the SSC-II. This paper presents a procedural model for ocean breaking waves in real time. Since the growth of digital games, more ocean, coast and beach scenarios have appeared, but these games rarely use breaking waves. The model proposed in this paper aims to animate waves with minimal graphic processing unit (GPU) and computer processing unit (CPU) costs. Using a few set of parameters, our procedural model generates an unique ocean-like scenario. This model could be employed in several types of games and applications. Results indicate that our real time breaking waves are visually accepted and have minimal impact on application performance. © 2010 IEEE.

This paper presents a model for generating 2D cracks in real-time for application in games and cartoon animations. Cracks are generated based on a method previously used for leaf venation patterns. We describe a procedural model to generate cracks that can be customized for application in games, generating different visual results depending on interactive parameters. Results were visually evaluated by users and indicate that hypothesis to adopt leaf venation patterns to generate cracks is valid and possible for interactive applications. © 2010 IEEE.

Electromigration experiments have been carried out on simple Cu dual-damascene interconnect tree structures consisting of straight via-to-via (or contact-to-contact) lines with an extra via in the middle of the line. As with Al-based interconnects, the reliability of a segment in this tree strongly depends on the stress conditions of the connected segment. Beyond this, there are important differences in the results obtained under similar test conditions for Al-based and Cu-based interconnect trees. These differences are thought to be associated with variations in the architectural schemes of the two metallizations. The absence of a conducting electromigrationresistant overlayer in Cu technology, and the possibility of liner rupture at stressed vias lead to significant differences in tree reliabilities in Cu compared to Al.
