Transforming data into appropriate formats is crucial because it can speed up the training process and enhance the performance of classification algorithms. It is, however, challenging due to the complicated process, resource-intensive and preserved meaning of the data. This study proposes new approaches to building knowledge representation models using word-embedding and ontology techniques, which can transform text data into digital data and still keep semantic/context information of themselves in order to enhance modeling data later. To evaluate the effectiveness of the built models, a classification framework is proposed and performed on a public real dataset. Experimental results show that the constructed knowledge representation models contribute significantly to the performance of classification methods. © 2023 Thi Thanh Sang Nguyen et al., licensed to EAI. A linear differential operator T = Q(z)dzd+P(z) with polynomial coefficients defines a continuous family of Hutchinson operators when acting on the space of positive powers of linear forms. In this context, T has a unique minimal Hutchinson-invariant set MTCH in the complex plane. Using a geometric interpretation of its boundary in terms of envelops of certain families of rays, we subdivide this boundary into local and global arcs (the former being portions of integral curves of the rational vector field Q(z)P(z)∂z), and singular points of different types which we classify below. The latter decomposition of the boundary of MTCH is largely determined by its intersection with the plane algebraic curve formed by the inflection points of trajectories of the field Q(z)P(z)∂z). We provide an upper bound for the number of local arcs in terms of degrees of P and Q. As an application of our classification, we obtain a number of global geometric properties of minimal Hutchinson-invariant sets. © 2024, CC BY.

Optimising queries in real-world situations under imperfect conditions is still a problem that has not been fully solved. We consider finding the optimal order in which to execute a given set of selection operators under partial ignorance of their selectivities. The selectivities are modelled as intervals rather than exact values and we apply various methods from decision theory in order to measure optimality.

The recent increment of population in the urban areas requires well-operated and well-managed cities with lots of automation in various aspects of everyday life. The backbone of this smart city is the Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology. This paper outlines the fundamental idea of IoT, followed by its framework for successful smart city implementation. The deployment of a city-scale IoT infrastructure involves heterogeneity of devices (in terms of hardware, software interfaces, communication interfaces and data transmitted), poses new challenges in several aspects including interoperability and security. There are many review articles on smart city proposing various frameworks, each with its own focus area. However, how different domain areas are to be interconnected together, remained questionable. Due to sensible nature of data involved, privacy and security must be ensured, considering secure environment for users' personal data in transit and storage. These elements must be integrated into the smart city architecture. Additionally, with the increase demand for mobile applications, the issues of mobility and the optimization of resource management are another challenging part in smart city. These issues and several approaches to tackle each of them are also highlighted in brief. An iterative two-grid method for strongly nonlinear elliptic boundary value problems

We design and analyze an iterative two-grid algorithm for the finite element discretizations of strongly nonlinear elliptic boundary value problems in this paper. We propose an iterative two-grid algorithm, in which a nonlinear problem is first solved on the coarse space, and then a symmetric positive definite problem is solved on the fine space. The main contribution in this paper is to establish a first convergence analysis, which requires dealing with four coupled error estimates, for the iterative two-grid methods. The rise in demand for real-time applications, such as live streaming, online gaming, and Internet telephony, has highlighted the necessity for transport protocols that offer low latency and network stability. Traditional protocols, namely Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and User Datagram Protocol (UDP), have inherent limitations. TCP ensures reliable data delivery but suffers from latency, making it unsuitable for real-time needs, while UDP provides fast data transmission but lacks congestion control, which can lead to network instability. This gap underscores the need for a protocol that combines high-speed data transfer with effective congestion management. To address this issue, the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) introduced the Datagram Congestion Control Protocol (DCCP), designed to optimize data delivery speed while managing congestion. This study evaluates DCCP's performance against TCP in network scenarios of 8 and 16 nodes using the NS2 simulation environment. By comparing throughput and delay across various bandwidth and latency settings, the study finds that DCCP offers up to 35% higher throughput in 8-node setups and reduces packet loss by 20% in high-bandwidth scenarios. These results suggest that DCCP is well-suited for real-time applications, achieving a crucial balance between fast data transmission and network stability.

Sleep staging is a key method for assessing sleep quality and diagnosing sleep disorders. However, current deep learning methods face challenges: 1) post-fusion techniques ignore the varying contributions of different modalities;2) unprocessed sleep data can interfere with frequency-domain information. To tackle these issues, this paper proposes a gated multimodal temporal neural network for multidomain sleep data, including heart rate, motion, steps, EEG (Fpz-Cz, Pz-Oz), and EOG from WristHR-Motion-Sleep and SleepEDF-78. The model integrates: 1) a pre-processing module for feature alignment, missing value handling, and EEG de-trending;2) a feature extraction module for complex sleep features in the time dimension;and 3) a dynamic fusion module for real-time modality *** show classification accuracies of 85.03% on SleepEDF-78 and 94.54% on WristHR-Motion-Sleep datasets. The objective in this article is to extend the applicability of Newton’s method for solving Banach space valued nonlinear equations. In particular, a new semi-local convergence criterion for Newton’s method (NM) based on Kantorovich theorem in Banach space is developed by application of the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle (HUP). The convergence region given by this theorem is small in general limiting the applicability of NM. But, using HUP and the Fourier transform of the operator involved, we show that it is possible to extend the applicability of NM without additional hypotheses. This is done by enlarging the convergence region of NM and using the concept of epsilon-concentrated operator. Numerical experiments further validate our theoretical results by solving equations in case not covered before by the Newton–Kantorovich theorem. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature India Private Limited.

Temporal logic of surjective bounded morphisms between finite linear processes

In this paper, we study temporal logic for finite linear structures and surjective bounded morphisms between them. We give a characterisation of such structures by modal formulas and show that every pair of linear structures with a bounded morphism between them can be uniquely characterised by a temporal formula up to an isomorphism. As the main result, we prove Kripke completeness of the logic with respect to the class of finite linear structures with bounded morphisms between them. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Computing graduates are frequently reported by members of industry to lack in professional dispositions and/or non-technical skills (often referred to as "soft skills"). In this work, we conduct a gap analysis of the alignment between academic preparation and industry expectations through a three-pronged study. First, a literature review explored the academic perspective of how fostering professional dispositions and non-technical skills occurs in tertiary computing education. Second, a literature review identifying industry's expectations of those dispositions and skills for entry-level computing professionals. Finally, a mixed-methods approach, combining a survey and structured interviews of computing industry professionals to identify their opinions on the relative importance of those skills and dispositions. In each of these prongs, we additionally consider whether and how Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) may have been approached and/or incorporated. Our work uncovers a number of gaps. Several skills and dispositions, such as leadership, ethics, and inventiveness, are over-represented in the academic literature compared to industry's expectations, while others such as lifelong learning and professionalism are under-emphasised. Furthermore, some terms such as 'ethics' and 'professionalism' are defined differently by various stakeholder groups, leading to a gap between academic training and industry expectations. Finally, several skills and dispositions, such as collaboration, teamwork, communication, and leadership show evidence of exposure in academia, but require more scaffolded instruction to meet industry expectations. We also found a dearth of coverage in the literature and a lack of focus in industry for DEIA considerations. © 2025 ACM.
