In recent years, there has been a growing interest in examining the signif-icance of radon concentration measurements in the field of earth sciences. Radon emissions, heightened by impending geophysical events like earth-quakes, have been observed in specific areas around the globe. This study proposes a specific approach for analyzing and clarifying a pertinent correlation among radon concentrations, environmental factors, and seismic activity in Romania, by integrating correlation analysis techniques with smart visualization tools, aiming to enhance the interpretation and communication of relevant scientific findings. The findings of this study highlight both linear positive and negative moderate correlations between radon concentrations and various environmental factors. It also reveals only weak correlations between seismic activity and radon concentrations across different monitoring stations. It sheds lights on the peculiarities of some seismic areas in Romania and open avenues for further thoroughly investigations with smart visualization, advanced analytics techniques, and structural equation modeling. © 2024, Politechnica University of Bucharest. Due to the proliferation of electronic devices, there is an ongoing creation of new data for each and every human. There is an ongoing debate about data because of the trade off that happens: security of the data versus the convenience of accessing the data. The exclusivity between the two can simply be narrowed by using a homomorphic encryption algorithm over one of the many blockchains available. This allows for the data to be available to the owner at any time, while also permitting for third parties to operate on the data while not leaking anything about the data involved in the computations. © 2024, Politechnica University of Bucharest. Managing a cluster infrastructure is a difficult task: system administrators must choose the most suitable hardware and software solutions, while making trade-offs and checking various configurations. When choosing the operating system that will run on the cluster’s servers, system administrators must consider system’s security and stability and resource allocation, isolation and orchestration methods. This paper analyses the requirements a cluster-centered operating system must meet and shows that FreeBSD is a suitable candidate for running in cluster architectures. Then, a hybrid architecture for a general-purpose cluster is proposed. Afterwards, the current status of deploying the proposed configuration in National University of science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest’s cluster infrastructure and the issues we encountered are presented. © 2024, Politechnica University of Bucharest. Monitoring solutions have been a mainstay of cloud infrastructures for the past two decades. Because of this our conceptions about infrastructure need to be re-evaluated. The monitoring paradigm has shifted, and new solutions have appeared to supplant existing software. This paper will analyze the existing cluster monitoring software available, present their advantages and drawbacks. In this paper, the free services offered by IBM Watson are evaluated for the purpose of implementing an Intrusion Detection System in the context of offline network traffic analysis. It examines IBM Watson's role in IDS, detailing system architecture, network traffic capture, data processing, and algorithm selection with IBM Watson Studio, using the CIC-IDS2017 dataset. The study assesses AI algorithms like LGBM, XGB, Random Forest, and Extra Trees Classifier for detecting intrusions, concluding with an analysis of these algorithms' performance through precision, recall, and F measure metrics, evaluating the effectiveness of IBM Watson in a cloud-based IDS implementation. © 2024, Politechnica University of Bucharest. Maximum Power Point Tracking control of a variable speed wind turbine via a T-S fuzzy model-based approach

This paper proposes a multi-objective H2/H ∞ maximum power tracking control of a variable speed wind turbine to minimize the H2 tracking error and ensure the H ∞ model reference-tracking performance, simultaneously. The optimal condition is obtained via a boost converter use, which adapts the load impedance to the wind turbine generator. Thus, based on the fuzzy T-S model, a multi-objective Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) controller is developed, ensuring maximum power transfer, despite wind speed variation and system uncertainty. To specify the optimal trajectory to follow, a TS reference model is proposed taking as input the optimal rectified DC current. The conditions of stability and stabilization are expressed in terms of linear matrix inequality (LMI) for uncertain and disturbed T-S models leading to determining the controller gains. Finally, an example of MPP tracking applied to a Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) illustrates the effectiveness of the proposed fuzzy control law. © 2024 - IOS Press. All rights reserved.

Energy systems, either based on electricity or natural gas, are omnipresent regardless of the financial status of a country or an area. Due to a variety of causes (such as depletion of resources, natural calamities or speculative behaviors of producers and distributors – not to mention geo-political problems) prices for electricity or natural gas may significantly vary even on short terms. Unfortunately, these often lead to situations where theft becomes a reality, and some end users find solutions to defraud energy systems. This paper is based on an actual study which aimed to identify geographic areas that exhibit high risks of energy fraud, in particular natural gas thefts. In fact, as it will be presented in the paper, results are very encouraging, a very significant number of frauds were identified by using relatively cheap methods based on data analysis and data mining. In practice, this leads to minimizing losses for distributing company (both in natural gas and human efforts) and maintaining prices for the end user at levels affected only by market behavior. © 2023, Politechnica University of Bucharest. The labor market is constantly affected by global events and techno-logical advancements, leading to a need for the workforce to continuously ac-quire new skills. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) can provide such opportunities, with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) playing a crucial role in facilitating the process. However, the full potential of ICT in TVET has not been fully realized, and there is a gap in the knowledge regarding its role. To contribute to the body of knowl-edge, this study has conducted a systematic literature review using Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools, including Word Cloud and Topic model-ing. The findings have shown common themes addressing the role of ICT in creating and distributing educational material, creating collaborative and interactive learning environments, and providing personalized learning ex-periences. This study has revealed challenges related to ICT infrastructure, availability of ICT skills, and technical challenges including cyber-security and technical support. Furthermore, the study has identified a knowledge gap in understanding the role of ICT in the learning value-creation process. As a practical implication, this study highlights the need for future research in the field, to address the knowledge gap related to the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in facilitating the value creation process in TVET. The findings have social implications for the development of TVET programs and the development of sustainable workforce, thus contributing to the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. © 2023, Politechnica University of Bucharest. In the recent years, computing systems and applications are ubiquitous, the security and privacy are components which cannot be ignored anymore. Even if security is not a functional component of applications the concept of security and privacy by design is a hot topic addressed by companies activating in the IT field. Security has many layers and components, one of them is the monitoring and reporting component, and part of this are the intrusion detection systems (IDS). The paper presents a solution for an irrigation controller based on the fuzzy-logic methodology. First, it describes the general problem of irrigation. Then, it discusses the physical control model. The precious irrigation is great significance for arid and semiarid area. In this paper, a fuzzy control algorithm was proposed to make an optimal irrigation strategy based on the actual measured soil humidity. In this paper, the fuzzy control algorithm was introduced in detail which included the setting of input and output, the selection of membership function and the setting of fuzzy rules. Following the discussion and the formal presentation of the fuzzy controller, the paper provide examples that will show the simplicity in designing and constructing such a system and other advantages of using fuzzy logic in the feedback control problem. © 2023, Politechnica University of Bucharest.
