Unmanned aerial vehicles can improve short- term weather forecasting by acquiring information from weather sensors and other sensors. With this information, there is the possibility of making relevant maps like solar radiation, pollen, emissions, particles, and others. Another advantage of this acquisition system is the high rate of flights, compared to the classic measurements made with the weather balloon, which is launched twice a day. In addition to the advantages listed above, we discuss the multiplication factor of the acquired data, these systems being able to operate in various geographical locations.

This paper proposes a new disturbance observer (DO)-based reinforcement learning (RL) control approach for nonlinear systems with unmatched (generalized) disturbances. While a nonlinear disturbance observer (NDO) is utilized to measure the plant uncertainties, disturbances can exist in the plant via distinct channels from those of the control signals; so-called mismatched disturbances are theoretically difficult to attenuate within the channel of the system's states. A generalized disturbance observer-based compensator is implemented to address the uncertainty cancellation problem by removing the influence of uncertainties from the output channels. Con-currently, a composite actor-critic RL scheme is utilized for approximating the optimal control policy as well as the ideal value function pertaining to the compensated system by solving a Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation for both online and offline iterations simultaneously. Stability analysis verifies the convergence of the proposed framework. Simulation results are included to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

The rising data volumes force significant bottlenecks on the 6G for IoT (6G-IoT) network management functions, which limits the control, flexibility, and interoperability among devices, protocols, and end applications. Solutions like software-defined networking (SDN), and network function virtualization (NFV) are proposed with 6G, but the core management operations are still manual. Thus, to automatically upscale these 6G-IoT networks at reduced cost orchestration complexity, zero-touch networks (ZTN) are proposed. ZTN in 6G-IoT allows a high degree of automation and seamless integration of services. The article proposes a scheme, Zero-Load, that integrates ZTN at the core routing functionality of the 6G-IoT applications. We present a load balancing and traffic classification scheme through the ZTN networking stack for core routers. The ZTN router configuration fabric connects applications with the core services. Further, we present a Gaussian kernel-based support vector machine (SVM) classifier at the ZTN automation layer, which classifies the normal traffic and attack traffic. The proposed work is compared for parameters like mean time to response (MTTR), and resolution latency against baseline SDN and NFV schemes. Using ZTN, an average improvement of 32.45% is obtained in MTTR, and 87.89% in resolution latency (against a query). Using the Gaussian RBF kernel, an accuracy of 0.9914 is reported. These results indicate that ZTN-based management paves the way toward a more dense and intelligent 6G-IoT network. © 2023 IEEE.

We illustrate a novel version of Willems’ lemma for data-based representation of continuous-time systems. The main novelties compared to previous works are two. First, the proposed framework relies only on measured input-output trajectories from the system and no internal (state) information is required. Second, our system representation makes use of exact system trajectories, without resorting to orthogonal bases representations and consequent approximations. We first establish sufficient and necessary conditions for data-based generation of system trajectories in terms of suitable latent variables. Subsequently, we reformulate these conditions using measured input-output data and show how to span the full behavior of the system. Furthermore, we show how to use the developed framework to solve the data-based continuous-time simulation problem. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

The paper aims to optimize the energy consumption of industrial robots, with the goal of reducing operational costs and improving the sustainability of the production process. The methods discussed include using energy-efficient components, reducing idle times, and optimizing robot trajectory programming to minimize unnecessary movements. The project presents a simulation of an industrial process for sorting and depalletizing parts using a KUKA KR 4 Agilus robot, along with Arduino development boards for control and coordination. A color sensor system is employed for object detection, optimizing the robot’s movements based on the data collected. To analyze energy and time efficiency, two movement routines were compared: one based on SLIN and the other on SPTP.

This article presents a study on the use of photovoltaic panels for storing electrical energy intended to power an HVAC unit placed in a residential room. To highlight this aspect, two specific scenarios will be considered. Thus, we aim to analyze whether the generated and stored energy is sufficient to fulfil the thermal comfort requirements of the user, while also considering the primary objective of minimizing energy consumption. To achieve this goal, the HVAC unit will be controlled by implementing a fuzzy system that determines its optimal activation based on the comfort level obtained from the user. The fuzzy system presents as inputs both environmental parameters and specific personal perception parameters of the user. The research results provide an insight into the efficiency of implementing photovoltaic energy storage systems for residential applications and propose solutions for optimizing energy consumption in the context of ensuring adequate thermal comfort. Thus, the study contributes to the development of sustainable and personalized energy solutions for smart homes.

In a world in a continuous and rapid change, it is absolutely necessary for our students to keep up with the rapid progress of new technologies: Internet of Things (IoT), Robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) etc. The rapid evolution and diversification of these emerging technologies has recently led to their introduction into the educational offer of the school curriculum for the gymnasium. The discipline of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has already been implemented, a discipline that involves both the formation of skills to use new technologies and the formation of computational thinking necessary for the efficient and intelligent use of these technologies. In order to teach and learn Physics from a STEM (science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) educational perspective, we initiated optional school courses of IoT, Robotics and AI (approached through Machine Learning). These courses stimulate, at the level of students, computational thinking, creativity and innovation and lead, from an interdisciplinary perspective, to the development of emerging specializations such as Mathematics-Physics-Automation, Mathematics-Physics-Electronics, Mathematics-Physics-Informatics-Robotics etc. In this paper we presented a method of approaching, in the school educational space, the study of wireless communication technologies between smart devices, through an Educational Robotics project. The project consisted of creating a wireless controlled mobile robotic platform (robot car) via a Bluetooth module connected to an Arduino Uno board. © 2021 IEEE.

This paper presents the design and development of a Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) fixed-wing aircraft intended for autonomous missions. It provides an overview of the current state of VTOL technology and its applications. The paper focuses on fixed-wing VTOL aircraft created by Academic Scientific Association High Flyers from the Silesian University of Technology in Poland. The design process and considerations are discussed in detail, including aerodynamics, selection of materials, hardware, control systems and software. Finally, the paper discusses real-world scenarios that the designed UAV could be used to solve real-world problems, such as targeted plant protection or the deployment of oral vaccines for wildlife. The authors successfully tested solutions presented in the paper during competitions and real practical applications. Overall, this paper provides a comprehensive look into the design and development of a VTOL aircraft for autonomous missions and presents its effectiveness and capabilities in solving real-life problems.

This article presents the problem of designing a nonlinear observer for an active magnetic suspension system. The design process of the nonlinear Luenberger observer (also known as the Kazantzis-Kravaris-Luenberger observer) is discussed. Particular attention was paid to the main nonlinearity of the system - the electromagnetic force, which was modeled applying the function describing the change in inductance as a function of the distance of the levitating object from the electromagnet surface. Theoretical analyses were confirmed by the results of experimental studies in which the task of moving the sphere between the given positions using current control was carried out. control tasks were conducted in the real-time regime on an embedded platform. The measured signals and estimated velocity were analyzed in the context of future implementations in control applications.

This paper presents a control strategy based on a new notion of time-varying fixed-time convergent control barrier functions (TFCBFs) for a class of coupled multi-agent systems under signal temporal logic (STL) tasks. In this framework, each agent is assigned a local STL task regradless of the tasks of other agents. Each task may be dependent on the behavior of other agents which may cause conflicts on the satisfaction of all tasks. Our approach finds a robust solution to guarantee the fixed-time satisfaction of STL tasks in a least violating way and independent of the agents' initial condition in the presence of undesired violation effects of the neighbor agents. Particularly, the robust performance of the task satisfactions can be adjusted in a user-specified way. © 2021 EUCA.
