Evaluation of importance for condition attributes based on quality of decision reducts

Relative or decision reducts belong with mechanisms dedicated to feature selection, and they are embedded in rough set approach to data processing. Algorithms for reduct construction typically aim at dimensionality reduction aspect, searching for smallest reducts, which are considered as the most advantageous from the point of view of knowledge representation. However, classifiers build on reduced data models, based on reducts, can significantly vary in performance. Therefore, to ensure quality of predictions, other characteristics of reducts, apart from their cardinalities, need to be taken into account. The paper presents research in which estimation of reduct quality through their characteristics was reflected in calculation of the proposed weighting factors leading to attribute rankings. These rankings were next employed in the process of filtering decision rules, inferred by classic rough set approach. Constructed rule-based classifiers were applied in the stylometric domain to solve a task of authorship attribution.

Technological advance within IT & C may and will have an increasing impact over environment protection. Currently, a major issue for society in the field of environmental protection is the sustainable management of waste. This has been debated at EU level, leading to the issue of several directives for regulating, monitoring, controlling, and mitigating the impact of pollution. After joining the EU, Romania had to make serious efforts for implementing waste management by adopting European directives or transposing them into national law. As a result, private or state-owned companies involved in selling various categories of products must pay attention to waste collecting and meeting specific recycling quotas. Unfortunately, in Romania there is no software application that offers all the facilities needed by those companies. This paper presents an open system application dedicated to waste management.

In this article we corrected the trilinear formula for triple disjoint matrix multiplication given in the article ‘J. Laderman, V. Pan, X. H. Sha, On practical Algorithms for Accelerated Matrix Multiplication, Linear Algebra and its Applications. Vol. 162-164 (1992) pp. 557-588’, which is incorrect for matrix dimensions equal to two or greater. That formula is a base of two algorithms, for disjoint and single matrix multiplication. The necessary correction made the amount of non-scalar products raise, slightly increasing the algorithm time complexity. We also corrected explicit formulas, in the bilinear form, for triple disjoint matrix multiplication. They are explicit, thus convenient for practical use of fast matrix multiplication algorithms in question. © 2023, CC BY.

The integration of electric vehicles (EVs) into power grids presents a significant challenge for sustainability due to their dynamic charging demands and the need to accommodate renewable energy sources. Existing optimization methods often fail to adequately address the complexity of this problem. In this study, propose a novel approach that combines Sine Hunter-Prey Optimization (SHPO) with Gated Recurrent Units (GRUs) to dynamically optimize EV charging for sustainable power grid operation. Traditional optimization methods struggle to capture the nonlinear and time-varying nature of EV charging demands and renewable energy availability. To overcome this limitation, SHPO's ability to efficiently explore complex solution spaces and GRUs' capability to model temporal dependencies in sequential data. This proposed method optimizes EV charging schedules by considering grid stability, renewable energy utilization, and cost minimization. Validating the approach using historical data on EV charging patterns, renewable energy generation, and grid conditions. Performance metrics include grid stability indices, renewable energy integration rates, and cost savings compared to baseline strategies. Experimental results demonstrate that the method outperforms traditional optimization techniques, leading to more sustainable and resilient power grid operation with 92% stability. Overall, this study contributes to advancing the modern methods in dynamic optimization of EV charging, paving the way for more sustainable transportation and energy systems. © 2024 IEEE.

MISROBÆRTA: TRANSFORMERS VERSUS MISINFORMATION

Misinformation is considered a threat to our democratic values and principles. The spread of such content on social media polarizes society and undermines public discourse by distorting public perceptions and generating social unrest while lacking the rigor of traditional journalism. Transformers and transfer learning proved to be state-of-the-art methods for multiple wellknown natural language processing tasks. In this paper, we propose MisRoBÆRTa, a novel transformer-based deep neural ensemble architecture for misinformation detection. MisRoBÆRTa takes advantage of two state-of-the art transformers, i.e., BART and RoBERTa, to improve the performance of discriminating between real news and different types of fake news. We also benchmarked and evaluated the performances of multiple transformers on the task of misinformation detection. For training and testing, we used a large real-world news articles dataset (i.e., 100,000 records) labeled with 10 classes, thus addressing two shortcomings in the current research: (1) increasing the size of the dataset from small to large, and (2) moving the focus of fake news detection from binary classification to multi-class classification. For this dataset, we manually verified the content of the news articles to ensure that they were correctly labeled. The experimental results show that the accuracy of transformers on the misinformation detection problem was significantly influenced by the method employed to learn the context, dataset size, and vocabulary dimension. We observe empirically that the best accuracy performance among the classification models that use only one transformer is obtained by BART, while DistilRoBERTa obtains the best accuracy in the least amount of time required for fine-tuning and training. However, the proposed MisRoBÆRTa outperforms the other transformer models in the task of misinformation detection. SIMPLEX: A LEXICAL TEXT SIMPLIFICATION ARCHITECTURE

Text simplification (TS) is the process of generating easy-to-understand sentences from a given sentence or piece of text. The aim of TS is to reduce both the lexical (which refers to vocabulary complexity and meaning) and syntactic (which refers to the sentence structure) complexity of a given text or sentence without the loss of meaning or nuance. In this paper, we present SIMPLEX, a novel simplification architecture for generating simplified English sentences. To generate a simplified sentence, the proposed architecture uses either word embeddings (i.e., Word2Vec) and perplexity, or sentence transformers (i.e., BERT, RoBERTa, and GPT2) and cosine similarity. The solution is incorporated into a user-friendly and simple-to-use software. We evaluate our system using two metrics, i.e., SARI, and Perplexity Decrease. Experimentally, we observe that the transformer models outperform the other models in terms of the SARI score. However, in terms of Perplexity, the Word-Embeddings-based models achieve the biggest decrease. Thus, the main contributions of this paper are: (1) We propose a new Word Embedding and Transformer based algorithm for text simplification;(2) We design SIMPLEX - a modular novel text simplification system - that can provide a baseline for further research;and (3) We perform an in-depth analysis of our solution and compare our results with two state-of-the-art models, i.e., LightLS [19] and NTS-w2v [44]. The work presented in this paper highlights the ability of state-of-the-art Large Language Models to generate sarcasm. In the recent months, ChatGPT has become increasingly popular and has started a new wave of interest in AI, especially on the non-scientific community. The model has displayed incredible feats, capable of producing human level results in a variety of tasks. To this end, sarcasm generation comes as a natural evaluation of the model's performance, as it was proven to be a highly difficult task, even for humans. As such, ChatGPT was tested in three experimental setups, no instructions, instructed to be sarcastic and instructed to impersonate a sarcastic character. The results generated by the model were benchmarked with a previous version, GPT2. Quantitative and qualitative analyses of the results were conducted, with ChatGPT achieving the highest BLEU score and generating the best results, outclassing its predecessor.

This paper discusses challenges, experiences and lessons learned so far while transforming a masonry build system based mostly on manual labour into a robot automated build system. Our motivation for selection of this masonry process is to try out how robot automation could impact the architects in their design work by providing a tool to directly manipulate wall expression down to individual brick level. Such manipulation is often much too costly for manual labour today. Moreover, masonry is a challenging application to automate. Understanding the manual processes involved and transforming them into automation equivalents faces several challenges;among them handling and distribution of the different materials involved, selection of tooling, sensing for handling of variation and digital tooling for the programming of the process. A novel parallel-kinematic manipulator (PKM) with computerized numerical control (CNC) is used as target for experiments, because the performance properties in stiffness, workspace and accuracy will allow us to extend work into further construction processes involving heavy and dirty manual labour. © 2022 International Association on Automation and Robotics in Construction.

The quotient of two multivariate Gaussian densities can be written as an unnormalized Gaussian density, which has been applied in some recently developed multiple-model fixed-interval smoothing algorithms. However, this expression is invalid if instead of being positive definite, the covariance of the unnormalized Gaussian density is indefinite (i.e., it has both positive and negative eigenvalues) or undefined (i.e., computing it requires inverting a singular matrix). This paper considers approximating the quotient of two Gaussian densities in this case using two different approaches to mitigate the caused numerical problems. The first approach directly replaces the indefinite covariance of the unnormalized Gaussian density with a positive definite matrix nearest to it. The second approach computes the approximation through solving, using the natural gradient, an optimization problem with a Kullback-Leibler divergence-based cost function. This paper illustrates the application of the theoretical results by incorporating them into an existing smoothing method for jump Markov systems and utilizing the obtained smoothers to track a maneuvering target. © 2023 International Society of Information Fusion.

Vehicle positioning algorithms are essential for improving traffic management and safety by accurately locating vehicles in real-time, and, thus, minimizing congestion and accidents. They also support the development of advanced driver assistance systems and autonomous vehicles, relying on precise positioning data for safe navigation. One of the solutions involves using image processing algorithms, which can have two approaches. One approach is decentralized, in which each vehicle performs its own computing steps and determines its position concerning the other nearby vehicles. The second approach, proposed in this paper, is centralized, where each vehicle sends data to a server that uses cloud computing to process all the data in real-time. As such, vehicles can create a more comprehensive view of the driving conditions in the area by using either of these two approaches, which can help them anticipate potential hazards and make more informed decisions.
