The traditional finite-state-model predictive thrust control (FS-MPTC) method for the linear induction machines (LIMs) needs to find proper weighting factor (WF) for adjusting the cost function terms, and the tuning procedures are tedious by enumerating multiple try cases. For solving aforementioned problems, one improved finite-state model predictive voltage control (FS-MPVC) is proposed in this work, which can eliminate the use of the WF from the cost function along with reducing the calculation burden. The reference voltage vector is predicted, based on the concept of deadbeat model predictive control, which can be used to construct a cost function. Through a comprehensive simulation and analysis for a 3-kw linear induction machine (LIM), entire comparisons between both the proposed FS-MPVC and the conventional FS-MPTC have been done. The results show that, the proposed FS-MPVC can successfully attain faster tracing speed, and lower thrust ripple relative to those of the FS-MPTC. © 2021 IEEE

Development of a novel visual servoing probe test method for fault diagnosis of printed circuit boards

Printed circuit board (PCB) measurement and repair is a challenging task that requires experience and expertise to perform. PCB diagnosis and repair shops employ skilled operators to carry out the corresponding measurement tasks using measuring instruments (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters) in order to uncover the condition of a particular product. However, these tasks are often repetitive and meticulous, and additionally, the results need to be collected and carefully documented so that the gathered experience regarding the product can be re-used when the next product of the same type arrives into the shop. Nevertheless, the diagnosis of used PCBs is less researched and current flexible automation possibilities are limited. In this paper, a novel visual servoing probe test method and measurement tool are proposed to provide a flexible solution for PCB diagnosis with a higher level of automation. The aim of the approach is to reduce the burden on the operators by carrying out the repetitive measurement tasks and automatically storing the results while leaving the responsibility of measurement profile setup to the human expert. The proposed visual servo system uses manually teached-in measurement points, where template patterns are recorded using cameras, and it is capable of compensating positioning errors in the range of a couple of millimeters. The proof of concept of the proposed method is presented through motherboard measuring experiments, with a 99.7% success rate.

The aim of the paper is to present a design cycle regarding to the construction of an unmanned cargo aircraft with own weight up to 25 kg, operating range of up to 100 km and AGL operating ceiling of up to 1 km. The task of the project team was to plan the design cycle, perform analytical calculations and CFD simulations, and finally to build an unmanned aircraft capable of lifting cargo. At the same time, a number of assumptions and technical regulations regarding constructions had to be met, which are specified in legal regulations regarding the given class of unmanned aerial vehicles. In order to achieve optimal UAV aerodynamic properties, including maximization of the payload while minimizing the own weight, aerodynamic calculations and CFD simulations were performed. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

This paper considers the distributed leader-follower stress-matrix-based affine formation control problem of discrete-time linear multi-agent systems with static and dynamic leaders. In leader-follower multi-agent formation control, the aim is to drive a set of agents comprising leaders and followers to form any desired geometric pattern and simultaneously execute any required manoeuvre by controlling only a few agents denoted as leaders. Existing works in literature are mostly limited to the cases where the agents’ inter-agent communications are either in the continuous-time settings or the sampled-data cases where the leaders are constrained to constant (or zero) velocities or accelerations. Here, we relax these constraints and study the discrete-time cases where the leaders can have stationary or time-varying velocities. We propose control laws in the study of different situations and provide some sufficient conditions to guarantee the overall system stability. Digital twins have a major potential to form a significant part of urban management in emergency planning, as they allow more efficient designing of the escape routes, better orientation in exceptional situations, and faster rescue intervention. Nevertheless, creating the twins still remains a largely manual effort, due to a lack of 3D-representations, which are available only in limited amounts for some new buildings. Thus, in this paper we aim to synthesize 3D information from commonly available 2D architectural floor plans. We propose two novel pixel-wise segmentation methods based on the MDA-Unet and MACU-Net architectures with improved skip connections, an attention mechanism, and a training objective together with a reconstruction part of the pipeline, which vectorizes the segmented plans to create a 3D model. The proposed methods are compared with two other state-of-the-art techniques and several benchmark datasets. On the commonly used CubiCasa benchmark dataset, our methods have achieved the mean F1 score of 0.86 over five examined classes, outperforming the other pixel-wise approaches tested. This paper introduces for the first time the design, modelling, and control of a novel morphing multirotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) that we call the OmniMorph. The morphing ability allows the selection of the configuration that optimizes energy consumption while ensuring the needed maneuverability for the required task. The most energy-efficient uni-directional thrust (UDT) configuration can be used, e.g., during standard point-to-point displacements. Fully-actuated (FA) and omnidirectional (OD) configurations can be instead used for full pose tracking, such as, e.g., constant attitude horizontal motions and full rotations on the spot, and for full wrench 6D interaction control and 6D disturbance rejection. Morphing is obtained using a single servomotor, allowing possible minimization of weight, costs, and maintenance complexity. The actuation properties are studied, and an optimal controller that compromises between performance and control effort is proposed and validated in realistic simulations. Preliminary tests on the prototype are presented to assess the propellers' mutual aerodynamic interference. © 2023, CC BY.

The problem of analysing a bed bound patient (that is, a patient who is confined to their bed) is a relevant factor in whether or not they will receive timely medical care. This paper aims to investigate the challenges and possible solutions to such problems. It describes an approach and methods for such analysis, as well as for home care bed control. This paper also addresses the challenges of Image Processing and Machine Learning. The experimental part describes important aspects regarding analysing brain activity, facial expression, blood flow, and human body pose. These experimental results and the proposed approach based upon them can be helpful for ensuring timely medical care. In addition, the results of this work can be useful for home care bed development. © 2022 IEEE.

Data heterogeneity, privacy leakage challenges, the ineffectiveness of conventional collaborative learning techniques, and unresolved managing non-IID data distributions are some of the major obstacles to implementing artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare. Federated learning (FL) frameworks frequently have trouble distinguishing between privacy protection and model accuracy, especially when used for delicate medical imaging applications. This study presents a novel framework that synergizes federated learning (FL) with edge computing to address these issues while safeguarding patient privacy. Our proposed Domain Adaptive Federated (DAD) learning approach effectively mitigates both inter-client and intra-client data heterogeneity, enabling collaborative model training across diverse medical imaging modalities (MRI, CT, PET) through cross-domain adaptation. Experimental evaluations on MRI brain segmentation datasets demonstrate the superior performance of DAD compared to traditional FL methods, as evidenced by significant improvements in F1-score (96.3), sensitivity (96.0), specificity (97.1), and AUC (96.7). This enhanced accuracy and robustness in handling heterogeneous and privacy-sensitive data render DAD an ideal candidate for privacy-preserving AI in consumer healthcare. By pioneering innovative strategies for collaborative model training and data privacy, this research contributes to the emerging field of edge intelligence, paving the way for improved patient outcomes while adhering to stringent confidentiality and ethical mandates.

In this paper, the quadratic buck converter (QBC) is proposed as competitive alternative to implement a battery charger. Since, QBC is a high order system, the required control is designed to follow the conventional constant-current constant-voltage regime by means of three loops. Namely, i) an inner-loop operating in sliding mode to control the current of the closest inductor to the input port providing the properly stability of the system, ii) a first outer loop designed to regulate the battery voltage providing the reference of the inner loop, and finally iii) a second outer loop to regulate the battery current modifying the reference of the voltage loop. Proportional Integral (PI) controllers are used in both outer loops. Simulation results are presented validating the theoretical study.

This paper presents a study for optimizing a hot rolling mill. The paper is devoted to the study of ways to reduce the effect of shock loads of synchronous electric drives of the roughing mill group on the relative lengthening of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap of the rolling stands of the finishing mill group. The elasticity of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap of the rolling mill has a significant impact on the movement of intercoupled multi-motor electric drives of the finishing mill group. Another crucial route of exposure that influences the motion of the electric drives within the finishing mill group involves the electromagnetic connection between the drives in the roughing and finishing mill groups. The impact of the electromagnetically connected circuits is evident through the effect of shock loads from synchronous electric drives on the angular velocity of the direct current electric drives within the finishing mill group. The characteristics of the electromagnetic communication circuit are established by the power grid arrangement and equipment specifications. To assess the quality of work of electric drives of the finishing mill group, it is proposed to use the relative lengthening of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap, which is an important indirect indicator of the quality of rolling. The mathematical model of a hot rolling mill that takes into account both the elasticity of the metal strip that connects the DC electric drives of the finishing group, and the electromagnetic coupling circuit that takes into account the impact loads of synchronous electric drives of the roughing group on the example of the mill 1700 of ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC was proposed in this paper.
