Air pollution has become a substantial environmental issue in China, which has seriously affected human health. To clarify the relationship among air pollutants, pollution sources, influencing factors, evaluation indicators and harms, it is essential to build a domain ontology for air pollution. Domain ontologies have been gradually accepted as a method to indicate the relationship between terms. However, there is not a complete ontology in air pollution domain, and building domain ontologies manually is time-consuming and inconvenient. In this paper, a semi-automatic approach is presented to build an ontology in air pollution domain. This paper proposes a method of entity relationship joint extraction based on attention mechanism, which is combined with core concept mining method to extract knowledge, and then concepts, relationships, and relevant instances are organized in hierarchy. Finally, the ontology model is constructed semi-automatically and semantic inference is also carried out. The research shows that this knowledge extraction method can avoid the error accumulation caused by entity recognition and relationship extraction and deepen the inner connection between them, and a large amount of effective knowledge in the field of air pollution can be extracted. In addition, the ontology constructed based on this method can also visually analyze the relationship between various classes and concepts in the field of air pollution, deduce the pollutant propagation path, and provide practical experience for the semi-automatic ontology construction in other fields and data support for further research. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Nanoplastics have been widely studied as environmental pollutants, which can accumulate in the human body through the food chain or direct contact. Research has shown that nanoplastics can affect the immune system and mitochondrial function, but the underlying mechanisms are unclear. Lungs and macrophages have important immune and metabolic functions. This study explored the effects of 100 nm PS-NPs on innate immunity, mitochondrial function, and cellular metabolism-related pathways in lung (BEAS-2B) cells and macrophages (RAW264.7). The results had shown that PS-NPs exposure caused a decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential, intracellular ROS accumulation, and Ca2+ overload, and activated the cGAS-STING signaling pathway related to innate immunity. These changes had been observed at concentrations of PS-NPs as low as 60 μg/mL, which might have been comparable to environmental levels. Non-target metabolomics and Western Blotting results confirmed that PS-NPs regulated prostaglandin B1 and other metabolites to cause cell damage through the cGAS-STING pathway. Supplementation of prostaglandin B1 alleviated the immune activation and metabolic disturbance caused by PS-NPs exposure. This study identified PS-NPs-induced innate immune activation, mitochondrial dysfunction, and metabolic toxicity pathways, providing new insights into the potential for adverse outcomes of NPs in human life. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

Compositional Synthesis of Symbolic Models for Infinite Networks ⁎

In this paper, we provide a compositional method for the construction of symbolic models (a.k.a. finite abstractions) for infinite networks of discrete-time control systems. The concrete infinite network and its symbolic model are related by a so-called alternating simulation function which allows one to quantify the mismatch between the output behavior of the infinite interconnection of concrete subsystems and that of their symbolic models. We show that such an alternating simulation function can be obtained compositionally by assuming some small-gain type conditions and composing so-called local alternating simulation functions constructed for subsystems. Assuming certain stability property of concrete subsystems, we also provide a technique to synthesize their symbolic models together with their corresponding local alternating simulation functions. Finally, we apply our results to a traffic network divided into infinitely many cells.

Chinese wolfberry (Lycium barbarum L.) is an important cash crop in the Ningxia region of China. However, low water and fertilizer use efficiencies have limited the growth of the Chinese wolfberry industry. Field experiments were conducted in the central Ningxia of Northwest China during 2018-2019 to investigate the interaction effects of different irrigation and fertilizer levels on agronomic performances of Chinese wolfberry, water use efficiency, fertilizer partial productivity and economic benefit. The optimal range of irrigation and fertilizer inputs for a multi-objective optimization problem was determined using multiple regression, entropy weight method and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) coupling comprehensive evaluation method. Three drip irrigation levels were designated based on the percentage of reference crop evapotranspiration (ETo) as low (65% ET0: W1), medium (85% ET0: W2) and high (105% ET0: W3) and three N-P2O5-K2O combined fertilization levels (kg ha-1) were designated as low (135-45-90: F1), medium (180-60-120: F2) and high (225-75-150: F3). The results showed that agronomic performances, water use efficiency (WUE), fertilizer partial productivity (PFP) and economic benefits increased initially and then decreased with increasing irrigation levels under the same fertilization level. Water use efficiency (WUE) was low under high irrigation level and high under low irrigation level. The PFP decreased with increasing fertilization levels and the lowest PFP was observed at high level of fertilizer (F3) application. The above parameters reached the maximum value under the medium irrigation level (85% ET0). Moreover, the multi-objective optimization highlighted that 252-262 mm of irrigation and 185-62-123～200-67-133 kg ha-1 of N-P2O5-K2O fertilization level offer more than 90% of yield, WUE, PFP and economic benefits simultaneously. This paper deals with the control problem of a refrigeration vapor compression system proposed as a benchmark for the IFAC Conference on Advances in PID controllers (PID'18). This refrigeration system is a multivariable nonlinear process that shows interactions and is subjected to input constraints. In this work, a decentralized PID control with inverted decoupling is proposed as control structure. The inverted decoupling is designed from an approximated multivariable linear model. Then, the PID controllers are tuned by genetic algorithms to minimize a performance index. In addition, a superheat reference generation is developed to achieve stationary operation points with maximum coefficient of performance which is a widespread efficiency measurement in these systems. Simulations considered in the benchmark show that the proposed design achieves better performance than the reference case. © 2018

A new identification procedure has been developed based on the information obtained from the oscillations that a non-linear element as a simple relay introduces in the feedback loop. Features of the method are: (1) the procedure does not demand a priori process information, (b) non-iterative algorithms are needed to derive the process parameters, (c) only one test is needed, and (d) it allows identifying the process at a user-specified phase lag in the third quadrant. © 2018

This paper proposes a Nonlinear Model-Predictive control (NMPC) method capable of finding and converging to energy-efficient regular oscillations, which require no control action to be sustained. The approach builds up on the recently developed Eigenmanifold theory, which defines the sets of line-shaped oscillations of a robot as an invariant two-dimensional submanifold of its state space. By defining the control problem as a nonlinear program (NLP), the controller is able to deal with constraints in the state and control variables and be energy-efficient not only in its final trajectory but also during the convergence phase. An initial implementation of this approach is proposed, analyzed, and tested in simulation.

Dynamic Approximate Maximum Independent Set on Massive Graphs

Computing a maximum independent set (MaxIS) is a fundamental NP-hard problem in graph theory, which has important applications in a wide spectrum of fields. Since graphs in many applications are changing frequently over time, the problem of maintaining a MaxIS over dynamic graphs has attracted increasing attention over the past few years. Due to the intractability of maintaining an exact MaxIS, this paper aims to develop efficient algorithms that can maintain an approximate MaxIS with an accuracy guarantee theoretically. In particular, we propose a framework that maintains a (∆/2 + 1)-approximate MaxIS over dynamic graphs and prove that it achieves a constant approximation ratio in many real-world networks. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first non-trivial approximability result for the dynamic MaxIS problem. Following the framework, we implement an efficient linear-time dynamic algorithm and a more effective dynamic algorithm with near-linear expected time complexity. Our thorough experiments over real and synthetic graphs demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed algorithms, especially when the graph is highly dynamic. Current forecasts indicate that food production needs to double by 2050 to meet the increasing global population demand. To boost food production while using fewer resources and reducing environmental impact, agri-food companies have started to adopt various digital technologies. This paper aims to analyse research on Industry 4.0 and agri-food sustainability using a bibliometric analysis of 1,373 papers published over the last 30 years. The results provide an overview of the most relevant scientific journals and papers, as well as the most productive and influential scholars, institutions, and countries. In addition, the analysis of keyword co-occurrence and cited references highlights the main research clusters and related sub-themes, offering valuable insights for future investigations. © 1973-2011 IEEE.
