This paper investigates the high-speed train rescheduling (HSTR) problem under a partial station blockage and proposes an efficient problem-specific strengthen elitist genetic algorithm (PS-SEGA) for HSTR. An HSTR model that is subject to train operation constraints is established to minimize the total train delay. The PS-SEGA framework consists of the following main steps. Firstly, a permutation-based encoding method is developed to define an efficient search space based on a train departure sequence. A decoding method is employed to output the rescheduled timetable and objective value based on the departure sequence. Moreover, a hybrid initialization method involving an efficient heuristic strategy (EHS) is put forward to accelerate the convergence speed of Evolutionary algorithms (EAs). Using problem-specific knowledge, EHS generates an efficient and feasible solution for the initial population. Finally, a restart strategy is presented to maintain genetic diversity. Compared with other advanced EAs and their improved variants also using the PS-SEGA framework, experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed PS-SEGA for addressing HSTR scenarios under the partial station blockage. As for the scenarios that CPLEX can not obtain optimal solutions within 10 minutes, PS-SEGA can all provide quasi-optimal solutions in real-time. Furthermore, compared with the other two strategies (i.e., First-Scheduled-First-Served and EHS), PS-SEGA can find the best departure sequence that can output the timetable with a quasi-optimal solution. © 2023, The Authors. The main goal of the project is to assure a collusion-free passage through the intersection in the shortest possible traveling time. Firstly, the order of the incoming vehicle is proposed. Using the mentioned order, a nonlinear optimization method is proposed, with the minimum traveling time of the participants, without their collusion is guaranteed. Based on the optimized result a database is created. The second part of the optimization uses this database to solve an another type of problem, when the vehicles steps in the intersection at different moment. Also mentionable the correct choosing of initial values in this part, because it has influence to the degree of optimization. After that, most of the situations can be solved, even if the vehicles have different step-in-time parameters. © 2019 Budapest University of Technology and Economics. All rights reserved.

The paper proposes the modeling of a driver behavior in lateral vehicle control design purposes. Nowadays significant emphasis is placed on the development of autonomous vehicle systems which motivates to research in this area. Using a properly designed driver model during cornering ensures the comfort of the passengers and provides predictable motions for the drivers of conventional vehicles and pedestrians. In this paper the vehicle control is based on picture frames provided by an onboard mono-camera, which is used by an image processing algorithm to calculate the present and the predicted lateral errors. The identified driver model defines the instantaneous steering angle using the calculated errors and several dynamic parameters of the vehicle. One of the dynamic variables, the longitudinal speed was used as a scheduling variable to determine the actual operating region of the system. The formulated driver model is verified through a real-time running simulator software, where the measured values of the steering angles can be compared with calculated ones. The simulation showed the accuracy and reliability of the formulated driver model. © 2019 Budapest University of Technology and Economics. All rights reserved.

In order to realize the vision of Semantic Web, which is a Web of things instead of Web of documents, there is a need to convert existing Web of documents into Semantic content that could be processed by machines. Semantic annotation tool could be used to perform this task through using common and public ontologies. Due to exponential growth and the huge size of Web sources, there is a need to have a fast and automatic Semantic annotation of Web documents. The aim of this paper is to investigate the use of word embeddings from deep learning algorithms to semantically annotate the Arabic Web documents. To enhance the performance of the Semantic annotation, we utilized the complex morphological structure of Arabic words. Moreover, evaluating the performance of the proposed framework requires selecting a set of domain ontologies with relevant and annotated related documents. The proposed framework produces Semantic annotations for these documents by using different standard output formats. The initial results show a promising performance that will support the research in the Semantic Web with respect to Arabic language.

This paper presents a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art occupancy grid mapping approaches for highway and urban automotive applications. The primary objective is to identify most suitable algorithm candidates for series applications. The occupancy grid functional performance requirements for automotive are given. A new high level grid fusion architecture is introduced. The innovative element is a second stage filtering step allowing better performance in case of highly uncertain inputs. An application of the architectures to an example sensor suite is proposed.

Diminishing stepsize methods for nonconvex composite problems via ghost penalties: From the general to the convex regular constrained case

In this paper we first extend the diminishing stepsize method for nonconvex constrained problems presented in [4] to deal with equality constraints and a nonsmooth objective function of composite type. We then consider the particular case in which the constraints are convex and satisfy a standard constraint qualification and show that in this setting the algorithm can be considerably simplified, reducing the computational burden of each iteration. We investigate the existence of nonnegative solutions for a Riemann-Liouville fractional differential equation with integral terms, subject to boundary conditions which contain fractional derivatives and Riemann-Stieltjes integrals. In the proof of the main results, we use the Banach contraction mapping principle and the Krasnosel’skii fixed point theorem for the sum of two operators.

The article presents an innovative concept of adaptive luminaire with variable luminous intensity distribution. It enables adjustment of photometric characteristic of luminaire to variable arrangement of the facility, including the quantitative regulation of luminous flux and spatial distribution. A solution presented in this paper was developed as part of a research project titled 'Development of the Intelligent Light Distribution System SOLLS ACTIVE SKY' and is the subject of patent application. The authors present the results of simulation tests in terms of the possibility of obtaining different luminous intensity distribution and lighting parameters on the working plane, with variable position relative to the arrangement of the luminaires. The use of a luminaire with variable luminous intensity distribution as part of an adaptive lighting system allows for quick and cost-free introduction of changes in the lighting of selected functional zones inside the facility. It is possible to adjust the lighting in case of changes in the size or position of the working plane, while the position of luminaire is constant. © 2018 IEEE.

It is a matter of fact that Europe is facing more and more crucial challenges regarding health and social care due to the demographic change and the current economic context. The recent COVID-19 pandemic has stressed this situation even further, thus highlighting the need for taking action. Active and Assisted Living (AAL) technologies come as a viable approach to help facing these challenges, thanks to the high potential they have in enabling remote care and support. Broadly speaking, AAL can be referred to as the use of innovative and advanced Information and Communication Technologies to create supportive, inclusive and empowering applications and environments that enable older, impaired or frail people to live independently and stay active longer in society. AAL capitalizes on the growing pervasiveness and effectiveness of sensing and computing facilities to supply the persons in need with smart assistance, by responding to their necessities of autonomy, independence, comfort, security and safety. The application scenarios addressed by AAL are complex, due to the inherent heterogeneity of the end-user population, their living arrangements, and their physical conditions or impairment. Despite aiming at diverse goals, AAL systems should share some common characteristics. They are designed to provide support in daily life in an invisible, unobtrusive and user-friendly manner. Moreover, they are conceived to be intelligent, to be able to learn and adapt to the requirements and requests of the assisted people, and to synchronise with their specific needs. Nevertheless, to ensure the uptake of AAL in society, potential users must be willing to use AAL applications and to integrate them in their daily environments and lives. In this respect, video- and audio-based AAL applications have several advantages, in terms of unobtrusiveness and information richness.
