Enhancing Human Activity Detection and Classification Using Fine Tuned Attention-Based Transformer Models

Recognition of human activity is an active research area. It uses the Internet of Things, Sensory methods, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning techniques to assist various application fields like home monitoring, robotics, surveillance, and healthcare. However, researchers face problems such as time complexity, more execution time of the model, and classification accuracy. This paper introduces a novel approach to overcome the issue as mentioned earlier by using the deep learning transformer model such as ViT(Vision Transformer), DieT(Data-efficient image Transformers), and SwinV2 transformer, which are used for image-based datasets (i.e., Standard40, MPII human pose) and VideoMAE transformer is used for video-based UCF101 and HMDB51 datasets. The approaches achieved remarkable accuracy in classifying human activities. Evaluations using the ViT, DeiT, and Swin transformer V2 with Stanford40 are 90.8%, 90.7%, and 88%;similarly, MPII Human Pose datasets show 87%, 85.6%, and 87.1%. In addition, this paper's method has achieved remarkable accuracies of 94.15% and 78.44%, respectively, when applying the VideoMAE transformer to video-based activity recognition on the UCF101 and HMDB51 datasets. These findings emphasize the efficacy of the attention-based transformer (i.e., ViT, DeiT, SwinV2, and VideoMAE) model and the novelty of earlier no-result evaluation on these various datasets with attention-based transformers. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

In today’s evolving landscape of video surveillance, our study introduces SuspAct, an innovative ensemble model designed to detect suspicious activities in real time swiftly. Leveraging advanced Long-term Recurrent Convolutional Networks (LRCN), SuspAct represents a significant advancement in intelligent surveillance technology. By combining insights from various LRCN models through the Majority Voting ensemble technique, SuspAct enhances its overall robustness, outperforming traditional surveillance methods. Through rigorous experimentation on large-scale datasets, we demonstrate SuspAct’s superiority in proactive crime prevention, showcasing its potential to revolutionize security protocols and contribute substantially to public safety. Heart sound classification method using gammatonegram and SVM

Today cardiovascular diseases have been posing a serious threat to human lives all over the world. Various automated decision-making systems have been proposed by the researchers to help cardiologists to diagnose heart health with more perfection, thus, reducing the frequency of fatalities. This research aims at classifying the Phonocardiogram (PCG) signals captured from the functioning of the cardiac system as normal or abnormal. The methodology proposed here has been validated using the benchmark dataset PhysioNet Computing in Cardiology (CinC) 2016. As of this writing, the studies carried out using contemporary techniques have so far been unable to generate pictorial representation from cardiac audio recordings that match the way the ear processes sound. The present research suggests a unique methodology for the detection of important events in an audio signal using a biologically-inspired depiction of the audio stream through a picture known as Gammatonegram which correlates to the processing of audio in the cochlea membrane of the inner human auditory system. In this study, texture-related features which include Linear Ternary Pattern (LTP), Local Directional Pattern (LDP), Geometric Local Textural Pattern (GLTP), and Local Phase Quantization (LPQ) have been extracted from a visual representation of PCG signal such as Spectrogram, Scalogram, Mel-spectrogram, and Gammatonegram. As compared to the case when researchers were employing other images, it has been noticed that the fusion of the features retrieved from the Gammatonegram has led to an increased overall classification performance metrics. The experiment yielded an overall accuracy of 94.00 % with precision and F1 scores of 91.77 and 93.61 respectively. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Gender identification from videos is a challenging task with significant real-world applications, such as video content analysis and social behavior research. In this study, we propose a novel approach, the White Shark Optimizer-Support Vector Machine (WSO-SVM), tailored specifically for gender identification from video data. The WSO-SVM integrates the White Shark Optimizer, a bio-inspired optimization algorithm mimicking the hunting behavior of white sharks, with the Support Vector Machine, a powerful machine learning technique for classification. By combining these two methods, we aim to exploit the advantages of both algorithms and enhance gender identification accuracy. To evaluate the performance of the WSO-SVM in gender identification, the work conducted extensive experiments using a diverse dataset of video clips containing individuals of various genders and backgrounds. The work compared the results with conventional SVM-based gender identification and state-of-the-art methods. The findings demonstrate that the WSO-SVM achieves superior accuracy in gender identification compared to traditional SVM-based approaches. The WSO-SVM's ability to efficiently explore the solution space and select optimal SVM parameters contributes to its improved performance. Moreover, the WSO-SVM exhibits robustness in handling variations in lighting conditions, poses, and facial expressions, making it well-suited for real-world video-based gender identification tasks. The outcomes derived from the SVM approach demonstrate that WSO-SVM produced an average FPR of 7.14%, Sensitivity of 93.06%, Specificity of 92.86%, Precision of 91.0%, and overall accuracy of 93.00% in 45.83 s with a recognition time of 45.83 s. © The Author(s) 2025.

Unstructured Numerical Image Dataset Separation (UNIDS) method employing an enhanced unsupervised clustering technique. The objective is to delineate an optimal number of distinct groups within the input grayscale (G-S) image content, utilizing the improved limited iteration agglomerative clustering (iLIAC) clustering technique for the separation and enhancement of picture elements. The UNIDS method is structured into two primary stages: partitioning and validation. In the partitioning stage, the UNIDS method identifies an appropriate number of discrete clusters within the grayscale image using the iLIAC technique, eliminating the need for predetermined procedures. Subsequently, the method evaluates the similarity and deviation among data elements within the same group in the resultant image dataset. Additionally, it assesses the proximity and inters severance among clusters in the outcome of the image dataset through the partitioning process. Empirical results indicate that the UNIDS system excels in the spontaneous identification of an optimal number of discrete clusters within the input G-S image. The system demonstrates superior thickness, reduced deviation among data elements within the same cluster, increased inter-separation, and diminished inter-closeness between cluster elements. Furthermore, empirical analysis establishes the superior performance of the UNIDS approach compared to existing clustering techniques. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

An optimized deep network-based intermediate code generation for the mathematical expression

In recent times, the system's mathematical expression and operation have gained greater reach in engineering and mathematics. It is vital to solving more complex expressions and equations in a short time. The most existing methodology was degraded in the recognition performance and provided inaccurate output. Therefore, a novel Squirrel-based Spiking Neural Model (SbSNM) was presented for the intermediate code generation from the mathematical expression relation data. Initially, the input ME relation data was preprocessed to remove noise and tokenized by the spiking neural features. The tokenized expressions were arranged into a syntax tree structure, and then intermediate code was generated by the squirrel functions. Finally, the differentiation was calculated and given as output. Subsequently, the performance parameters were evaluated for the presented SbSNM. The overall accuracy obtained by the presented model is 99.25% which is higher than the other existing techniques and also brought a higher precision and recall rate and f1-score. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

SkinMultiNet: Advancements in Skin Cancer Prediction Using Deep Learning with Web Interface

Cancer remains the leading cause of death worldwide, significantly impacting individuals and healthcare systems alike. In recent decades, skin cancer has surged in prevalence compared to other major cancer types. Various factors such as texture, color, morphological characteristics, and structure are employed in categorizing different forms of skin cancer. However, traditional methods of identification often prove time-consuming and costly. Skin cancer classification predominantly relies on machine learning, with the primary method being convolutional neural networks (CNNs). Our ‘SkinMultiNet’ framework, presented in this study and based on transfer learning principles, integrates the InceptionV3 and Xception CNN models for predicting skin cancer using image data. While other machine learning models such as ResNet50, NasNet, and MobileNet were explored, the 'SkinMultiNet' framework demonstrated the most promising outcomes. Utilizing a publicly available dataset comprising 6086 skin images, we trained, tested, and evaluated our models extensively. Proposed system employed a train generator to feed image data into our deep learning CNN models, followed by implementing a learning rate reducer on the datasets within the model. Through rigorous testing and validation procedures, our models successfully processed a substantial volume of skin image data. In contrast to conventional approaches, our proposed architecture offers the potential for more reliable diagnoses, achieving an optimal accuracy rate of 94% in skin cancer prediction. Triplet encoded sequence based membrane protein classification using BiLSTM

Membrane proteins provide a significant part in cellular activities. The role of membrane proteins is inevitable in drug interactions and in all living organisms. Membrane protein classification is used to identify the relationships between proteins. With the help of amino acid composition, proteins get classified. A novel protein classification scheme is proposed using Tri-code Embedding vector. This proposed method forms triplet subgroups which are assigned with unique code words. Then a triplet subgroup is formed from the amino acid subgroup which is provided as input to the Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) and SoftMax layer for classification. Two data sets are utilized and classified, with 7582 membrane proteins and 4684 membrane proteins. The results are investigated applying the self-consistency test, the Mathew’s correlation coefficient and the independent data set. Moreover, the proposed method shows its improvement in protein classification process in terms of accuracy, specificity, sensitivity, precision, recall and fmeasure. Thus, the proposed scheme provides an effective protein classification scheme that incorporates the optimistic features of deep learning. The results depict that overall accuracy obtained for data set1 is 99.48% and for data set2 is 99.87%. The proposed method achieves the highest overall classification accuracy with minimum execution time when compared to the other methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Comparing HAProxy Scheduling Algorithms during the DDoS Attacks

Web-services have become most common IT enablers today. Cyber attacks such as the distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks pose availability concerns which may result into service outages and consequently financial and reputation losses. Load balancing software such as HAProxy (high availability proxy) is an important building block of the Web service delivery today. Load balancing software provides incoming request distribution among Web-servers and admission control which may even help with combating DDoS attacks. In this letter, we study and explore the performance of different load distribution or scheduling strategies in the presence of DDoS attacks. With the help of attack experiments, we find that First, HDR, Source, and URI scheduling algorithms performs best for both static and Poisson arrivals. © 2019 IEEE.
