Efficient Saliency Map Detection for Low-Light Images Based on Image Gradient

Recently, deep learning has been widely employed across various domains. The Convolution Neural Network (CNN), a popular deep learning algorithm, has been successfully utilized in object recognition tasks, such as face recognition, vehicle recognition, and license plate recognition. However, conventional methods for object recognition may not be appropriate for low-light image recognition due to information loss in the dark regions and unexpected noise that can impair object quality. Therefore, the development of specialized techniques for low-light image enhancement has become a major research focus for object detection. This paper proposed a gradient-based saliency map detection method with an improved ResNet architecture that outperforms previous works in detecting multiple or large objects. Additionally, the proposed method enhances images with the object as the center and emphasizes foreground-background differences. Compared with previous works, this paper achieves1.28× improvements in the parameters and 1.32× faster inference speed than the original ResNet architecture. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Optimizing breast cancer diagnosis: Harnessing the power of nature-inspired metaheuristics for feature selection with soft voting classifiers

Breast cancer is a widespread and serious condition that poses a significant threat to women's health globally, contributing significantly to mortality rates. Machine learning tools play a critical role in both the effective management and early detection of this disease. Feature selection (FS) methods are essential for identifying the most impactful features to improve breast cancer diagnosis. These methods reduce data dimensionality, eliminate irrelevant information, enhance learning accuracy, and improve the comprehensibility of results. However, the increasing complexity and dimensionality of cancer data pose substantial challenges to many existing FS methods, thereby reducing their efficiency and effectiveness. To overcome these challenges, numerous studies have demonstrated the success of nature-inspired optimization (NIO) algorithms across various domains. These algorithms excel in mimicking natural processes and efficiently solving complex optimization problems. Building on these advancements, we propose an innovative approach that combines powerful feature selection methods based on NIO techniques with a soft voting classifier. The NIO techniques employed include the Genetic Algorithm, Cuckoo Search, Salp Swarm, Jaya, Flower Pollination, Whale Optimization, Sine Cosine, Harris Hawks, and Grey Wolf Optimization algorithms. The Soft Voting Classifier integrates various machine learning models, including Support Vector Machines, Gaussian Naive Bayes, Logistic Regression, Decision Tree, and Gradient Boosting. These are used to improve the effectiveness and accuracy of breast cancer diagnosis. The proposed approach has been empirically evaluated using a variety of evaluation measures, such as F1 score, precision, recall, accuracy and Area Under the Curve (AUC), for performance comparison with individual machine learning techniques. Cybersecurity is crucial in today’s interconnected world, as digital technologies are increasingly used in various sectors. The risk of cyberattacks targeting financial, military, and political systems has increased due to the wide use of technology. Cybersecurity has become vital in information technology, with data protection being a major priority. Despite government and corporate efforts, cybersecurity remains a significant concern. The application of multi-task learning (MTL) in cybersecurity is a promising solution, allowing security systems to simultaneously address various tasks and adapt in real-time to emerging threats. While researchers have applied MTL techniques for different purposes, a systematic overview of the state-of-the-art on the role of MTL in cybersecurity is lacking. Therefore, we carried out a systematic literature review (SLR) on the use of MTL in cybersecurity applications and explored its potential applications and effectiveness in developing security measures. Five critical applications, such as network intrusion detection and malware detection, were identified, and several tasks used in these applications were observed. Most of the studies used supervised learning algorithms, and there were very limited studies that focused on other types of machine learning. This paper outlines various models utilized in the context of multi-task learning within cybersecurity and presents several challenges in this field. © The Author(s) 2024.

Photo composition is one of the most important factors in the aesthetics of *** a popular application,composition recommendation for a photo focusing on a specific subject has been ignored by recent deep-learning-based composition recommendation *** this paper,we propose a subject-aware image composition recommendation method,SAC-Net,which takes an RGB image and a binary subject window mask as input,and returns good compositions as crops containing the *** model first determines candidate scores for all possible coarse cropping *** crops with high candidate scores are selected and further refined by regressing their corner points to generate the output recommended cropping *** final scores of the refined crops are predicted by a final score regression *** existing methods that need to preset several cropping windows,our network is able to automatically regress cropping windows with arbitrary aspect ratios and *** propose novel stability losses for maximizing smoothness when changing cropping windows along with view *** results show that our method outperforms state-of-the-art methods not only on the subject-aware image composition recommendation task,but also for general purpose composition *** also have designed a multistage labeling scheme so that a large amount of ranked pairs can be produced *** use this scheme to propose the first subject-aware composition dataset SACD,which contains 2777 images,and more than 5 million composition ranked *** SACD dataset is publicly available at https://***/SACD/.

A Post-Stroke Rehabilitation System With Compensatory Movement Detection Using Virtual Reality and Electroencephalogram Technologies

Stroke is a leading cause of global population mortality and disability, imposing burdens on patients and caregivers, and significantly affecting the quality of life of patients. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to explore the application of virtual reality technology in physical therapy by using immersive interactive training and designing rehabilitation modes for individual and group settings. We also aimed to provide patients with stroke with a comprehensive home-based rehabilitation and treatment plan, ultimately enhancing training effectiveness. Patients can engage in home-based rehabilitation through this system and undergo functional, mirror, and constraint-induced therapies tailored to different task contents. Simultaneously, using brain-computer interface technology, an emotion analysis mechanism was designed to map the patients' brainwave signal data onto a two-dimensional space of positive-negative valence arousal;this approach can enable remote physical therapists to discern the patients' emotional states during the rehabilitation process through virtual spaces, facilitating timely adjustments to rehabilitation tasks. Moreover, to prevent compromised effectiveness owing to improper training postures leading to compensation, the system offers real-time identification and recording, promptly issuing alerts when compensation occurs. The system provides a multiuser virtual rehabilitation space, enabling timely corrections and data observations, offering patients with stroke a home-based rehabilitation program, thereby realizing a localized aging care model. © 2013 IEEE.

Nowadays, high energy amount is being wasted by computing servers and personal electronic devices, which produce a high amount of carbon dioxide. Thus, it is required to decrease energy usage and pollution. Many applications are utilised by green computing to save energy. Scheduling of tasks acts as an important process to reach the mentioned goals. It is worth stating that the vital characteristic of task scheduling in green clouds is the load balancing of tasks on virtual machines. Efficient load balancing moves tasks from overloaded to underloaded virtual machines to maintain the Quality of Service (QoS). This issue is an NP-complete problem, so this research suggests a new technique based on the behavioural structure of artificial bee behaviour. This method aims to improve QoS while lowering energy usage in green computing. In addition, the honey bees are considered the removed tasks from overloaded virtual machines and a candidate for migrating selected tasks with the lowest priority. The CloudSim testing findings demonstrate that the technique is successful in QoS, makespan, and energy usage compared to other ways. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Wireless sensor network (WSN) applications are added day by day owing to numerous global uses (by the military, for monitoring the atmosphere, in disaster relief, and so on). Here, trust management is a main challenge. Sensor nodes are important in wireless sensor networks, but they are easily depleted because of their short lifespan from continuous sensing activity and low battery capacity. So efficient energy utilization is a challenging task in a WSN. To minimize energy loss, clustering with an optimum path selection process is needed to retain energy in sensor nodes. This manuscript proposes multi-objective Pelican Optimization Algorithm (POA) routing to maintain energy efficiency and minimize transmission distances in wireless sensor networks. A cluster head (CH) is selected by using a Separable Convolution Neural Network (SCNN). Simulation outcomes prove the proposed technique attains 22.3% and 25.04% improvements in energy consumption when compared to the Multi-Objective CH Energy-aware Optimized Routing Approach at WSN (MOCH-EORA-WSN) and Multiple Optimum Cluster Head Multi-Objective Grasshopper Optimization with Harmony-search at WSN (MOCH-MOGOH-WSN), respectively. © 2024 Institute of Electronics Engineers of Korea. Enhancing Prediction Accuracy with an Innovative Hybrid Fuzzy Time Series Framework

This study introduces a new hybrid fuzzy time series (FTS) model designed to improve forecasting abilities by independently applying forecasting techniques using both overlapping and non-overlapping partitions. By leveraging fuzzy logical relationships, the model enhances forecast reliability for decision-making. The independent application of the overlapping and non-overlapping partitions allows for a comparative analysis, demonstrating the superior forecasting accuracy of overlapping partitions. Evaluation using the Root Mean Square Error metric consistently demonstrates that the hybrid FTS model yields better forecasting results when overlapping partitions are considered. Real-world datasets across various domains, such as enrollment data from the University of Alabama, market indices, car sales figures, gold prices, lynx populations, sunspot counts, and car accidents, are employed to assess the effectiveness of the proposed FTS forecasting model. This evaluation highlights the potential of the hybrid FTS model as a dependable forecasting technique with broad applicability. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
