Adaptive pelican optimization with optimized mask RCNN for automatic lung cancer detection

Lung cancer is a prevalent and deadly disease worldwide, necessitating accurate and timely detection methods for effective treatment. Deep learning-based approaches have emerged as promising solutions for automated medical image analysis. This study proposes an enhanced Mask R-CNN framework tailored specifically for the automatic detection and severity analysis of lung cancer from CT images. The proposed approach consists of three stages namely, pre-processing, lung nodule detection, and segmentation using enhanced Mask R-CNN and severity analysis. Our framework employs a deep convolutional neural network architecture trained on a comprehensive dataset of annotated lung images. By incorporating a region-based convolutional neural network (R-CNN) with a mask prediction branch, our model accurately localizes lung tumors while providing precise pixel-level segmentation masks. To enhance the performance of mask RCNN, the parameter present in the classifier is optimally selected using the adaptive pelican optimization (APO) algorithm. The proposed framework detects lung tumors and provides a comprehensive severity analysis, enabling clinicians to assess cancer stage and progression accurately. Evaluation on a benchmark dataset demonstrates superior detection accuracy and robustness compared to existing methods. Our enhanced Mask R-CNN approach shows promise as a valuable tool for early diagnosis and severity assessment of lung cancer, potentially improving patient outcomes and healthcare efficiency. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Analysis of facial emotion expression in eating occasions using deep learning

Eating is experienced as an emotional social activity in any culture. There are factors that influence the emotions felt during food consumption. The emotion felt while eating has a significant impact on our lives and affects different health conditions such as obesity. In addition, investigating the emotion during food consumption is considered a multidisciplinary problem ranging from neuroscience to anatomy. In this study, we focus on evaluating the emotional experience of different participants during eating activities and aim to analyze them automatically using deep learning models. We propose a facial expression-based prediction model to eliminate user bias in questionnaire-based assessment systems and to minimize false entries to the system. We measured the neural, behavioral, and physical manifestations of emotions with a mobile app and recognize emotional experiences from facial expressions. In this research, we used three different situations to test whether there could be any factor other than the food that could affect a person’s mood. We asked users to watch videos, listen to music or do nothing while eating. This way we found out that not only food but also external factors play a role in emotional change. We employed three Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architectures, fine-tuned VGG16, and Deepface to recognize emotional responses during eating. The experimental results demonstrated that the fine-tuned VGG16 provides remarkable results with an overall accuracy of 77.68% for recognizing the four emotions. This system is an alternative to today’s survey-based restaurant and food evaluation systems. © 2023, The Author(s).

With the increase of energy consumption worldwide in several domains such as industry,education,and transportation,several technologies played an inﬂuential role in energy conservation such as the Internet of Things(IoT).In this article,we describe the design and implementation of an IoT-based energy conser-vation smart classroom system that contributes to energy conservation in the edu-cation *** proposed system not only allows the user to access and control IoT devices(e.g.,lights,projectors,and air conditions)in real-time,it also has the capability to aggregate the estimated energy consumption of an IoT device,the smart classroom,and the building based on the energy consumption and cost model that we ***,the proposed model aggregates the estimated energy cost according to the Saudi Electricity Company(SEC)***,the model aggregates in real-time the estimated energy conservation percentage and estimated money-saving percentage compared to data collected when the system wasn't *** feasibility and beneﬁts of our system have been validated on a real-world scenario which is a classroom in the college of computer science and engineering,Taibah University,Yanbu *** results of the experimental studies are promising in energy conservation and cost-saving when using our proposed system.

Lung Cancer Detection by Employing Adaptive Entropy Variance Dropout Regularization in GAN Variants

Lung cancer segmentation using Deep Neural Networks (DNN) needs accurate pixel-level data which is typically small. This leads to overfitting issue, and in order to alleviate this, the research is been done on L2 regularization and dropout algorithms which are commonly used in DNNs. To solve this co-adaptation problem, this paper discusses the basics of existing L2 regularization and dropout algorithms and their limitations. Further, this paper proposes a novel entropy variance dropout regularization algorithm to alleviate the existing limitations and enhance the model accuracy. The proposed regularization technique drops the co-adaptation features using the information entropy and variance. The experiments were conducted on Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) variants using L2 regularization, dropout regularization and proposed Adaptive Entropy Variance (AEV) dropout regularization. The experimental results prove that the GAN variants using the proposed method alleviate the overfitting problem and also yield high accuracy. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2024.

This study seems to propose an innovative approach to addressing the complexities of agricultural sustainability and productivity. By integrating graph-based Q-learning into two crucial aspects of agriculture - nutrient management and crop quality prediction - it offers a promising solution to optimize resource usage and enhance crop yield and quality. The utilization of Q-learning, a reinforcement learning technique, in constructing Nutrient Action and Quality-Action Graphs is particularly intriguing. These graphs seem to serve as dynamic frameworks for decision-making, allowing the algorithm to adapt and learn optimal strategies based on environmental conditions and crop requirements. The emphasis on tailoring nutrient management strategies to special crop and soil textures while taking environmental conditional factors like temperature and humidity underscores the importance of precision agriculture. This approach has the potential to revolutionize traditional fertilization and plant management practices by offering more tailored and adaptive solutions. Overall, combining of these models into agro decision-making processes holds promise for improving both productivity and sustainability in the face of fluctuating environmental conditions and increasing food demand. © 2024 IEEE.

So far, the task of Scientific Query-Focused Summarization (Sci-QFS) has lagged in development when compared to other areas of Scientific Natural Language Processing because of the lack of data. In this work, we propose a methodology to take advantage of existing collections of academic papers to obtain large-scale datasets for this task automatically. After applying it to the papers from our reading group, we introduce a novel dataset for Sci-QFS composed of 8,695 examples, each one with a query, the sentences of the full text from a paper and the relevance labels for each. After testing several classical and state-of-the-art embedding models on this data, we found that the task of Sci-QFS is far from being solved, although it is relatively straightforward for humans. Surprisingly, we found that classical methods outperformed modern pre-trained Deep Language Models (sometimes by a large margin), showing the need for large datasets to better fine-tune the latter. A Novel and Optimized Collaborative Diversity-Driven Routing Mechanism in MANETs

Wireless networks such as MANETs present unique challenges due to their dynamic and decentralized nature. Efficient routing protocols are essential for achieving reliable and robust communication in such networks. In this research, we propose a novel routing mechanism called collaborative diversity-driven routing (CollabNet) that integrates collaborative diversity to enhance the routing process in ad hoc networks. CollabNet utilizes a collaborative approach to address the challenges posed by dynamic network environments. CollabNet incorporates collaborative power control, adaptive power allocation, and energy-efficient routing to automatically adjust the dynamic power of nodes. By promoting collaborative behavior and optimizing power levels. It fosters collaborative behavior among nodes by establishing cooperation groups and leveraging multiple relay nodes. Through collaborative multipath diversity CollabNet facilitates the transmission of packets toward the destination via multiple paths within the transmission range. This approach increases the probability of successful packet delivery by establishing redundant connections. By promoting collaboration among nodes, CollabNet improves the reliability and connectivity of wireless ad hoc networks. The mechanism leverages the strength of collaborative diversity to enhance the overall performance of routing protocols. Extensive simulations demonstrate that CollabNet outperforms traditional routing protocols in terms of network connectivity, reliability, and efficiency. The proposed mechanism offers a promising solution for efficient routing in MANETs contributing to the advancement of wireless communication in dynamic ad hoc network environments. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

On Neutrosophy logic for Multiple Correlation Analysis in Fuzzy Uncertain Database

The primary goal of this paper is to introduce a novel method for mining frequent and interesting items by incorporating correlation analysis between two items in an uncertain transactional database using the OWA operator. The work is further expanded by proposing two additional methods for mining frequent and interesting items, utilizing fuzzy means and the OWA operator along with multiple correlation analysis for more than two items in uncertain transactional databases. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is evaluated by running the algorithms on both standard and example datasets, with results compared to the traditional probabilistic approach for identifying frequent and interesting items through multiple correlation. While multiple correlation analysis highlights the relationships of interestingness and uninterestingness between items, the OWA operator enhances the results when combined with fuzzy means and probabilistic methods. Additionally, the paper suggests a future research direction using Neutrosophy logic, which is anticipated to open new avenues for further exploration in this field. © 2025, University of New Mexico.
