Extended playing techniques are a crucial characteristic of contemporary double bass practice. Players find their voice by developing a personal vocabulary of techniques through practice and experimentation. These player-idiosyncratic techniques are used in composition, performance, and improvisation. Today’s AI methods offer the opportunity to recognize such techniques and repurpose them in real-time, leading to new forms of interactions between musicians and machines. This paper is the result of a collaboration between a composer/double-bass player and researchers, born from the musician’s desire for an interactive improvisational experience with AI centered around the practice of his extended techniques. With this aim, we developed Esteso: an interactive improvisational system based on extended technique recognition, live electronics, and a timbre-transfer double-bass model. We evaluated our system with the musician with three duet improvisational sessions, each using different mapping strategies between the techniques and the sound of the virtual double bass counterpart. We collected qualitative data from the musician to gather insights about the three configurations and the corresponding improvisational duets, as well as investigate the resulting interactions. We provide a discussion about the outcomes of our analysis and draw more general design considerations. © 2024, International Conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression. Water bodies are essential component of Earth's surface and accurate water region mapping is crucial for disaster management and environmental monitoring. Existing methods to map water bodies relies on traditional modelling methods that need extensive manual calibration struggle with scalability and lack advanced pattern recognition. This paper evaluates the effectiveness of deep learning-based semantic segmentation models, DeepLabV3+ and U-Net, using aerial images resized to $\mathbf{2 5 6 x} 256$ pixels in mapping water regions in aerial images. DeepLabV3+, with a ResNet50 backbone, and U-Net are trained on a comprehensive flood-affected dataset with preprocessing techniques such as resizing and augmentation. Model performance is assessed using metrics like IoU, F1 score, accuracy, precision, and recall. The results indicate that DeepLabV3+ outperforms U-Net, showing promise for automating water region mapping and improving flood surveys and urban planning. © 2024 IEEE.

This review investigates how deep learning methods can be utilized for efficient image retrieval based on content. Obtaining accurate images from vast digital collections poses significant challenges, motivating research in CBIR. The effectiveness of these methods varies depending on the dataset's type and size, with certain algorithms excelling with specific dataset characteristics. An extensive and well-structured review of successful image retrieval techniques is given in this paper. Our primary objective is to evaluate various deep learning models applied by researchers and compare their performance based on the outcome of evaluation matrices. These models encompass CNNs, DBNs, and other deep architectures tailored for image retrieval tasks. By synthesizing insights from this review, researchers can make informed decisions regarding model selection and potentially enhance retrieval performance by leveraging advanced deep learning features. The importance of deep features in image retrieval is the ability to capture complex visual patterns and semantic information that cannot be easily extracted by traditional handcrafted features. With the increasing volume of online images, Image retrieval using deep learning has become crucial for applications like object recognition, image retrieval, and image search engines. © 2024 IEEE.

Qualitative approach for automated grading and quality assessment of fruits, machine learning techniques are crucial in agricultural applications. Automation enhances a nation's agricultural quality, production, and economic prosperity. Fruit quality grading, particularly the surface fault identification of a fruit, is a crucial indicator in the export market. This is particularly important for mangoes, which are quite well-liked inBangladesh. On the other hand, the physical grading of mangoes is a procedure that is labor-intensive, prone to error, and very subjective. In this paper, we proposed a YOLOv7 integrated Discrete wave transformation computer vision system. The proposed model includes support vector machine (SVM) and decision tree for the classification of high-quality mangoes. The results of the experiments show that the proposed solution obtained 96.25% accuracy when the system was trained and tested using a publicly accessible mango database. © 2023 IEEE.

In the dynamic landscape of online knowledge exchange, platforms such as Quora have become vital arenas for diverse discussions and information dissemination. However, distinguishing sincere from insincere questions poses a challenge, impacting user experience and content credibility. The research seeks to utilize BERT-based frameworks to classify Quora questions, with a specific focus on discerning between sincere and insincere inquiries. The study underscores the significance of automated insincere content identification in fostering a trustworthy and constructive online environment on Quora, thereby contributing to the improvement of online interaction quality. The research delves into a comprehensive methodology, including data preprocessing, model training, fine-tuning, and performance evaluation. Extensive experimentation demonstrates that the proposed BERT-based approach achieves an impressive F1-score of 96.1%, outperforming existing methods. The contribution of the study lies in its potential to enhance online interactions by automating the identification of insincere content, fostering a conducive environment for meaningful conversations. © 2024 IEEE.

The use of inverter-based motor controllers that can generate fast voltage level transitions is increasing in the field of electric drive systems because of their ability to achieve higher efficiency. However, the fast voltage transitions, dv/dt's, are prone to generate bearing currents and cause overvoltages that may harm the electric motor. An LC filter applied between the inverter and the motor terminals can reduce the dv/dt's. However, the LC filter will cause overvoltage due to resonance but this can be overcome by introducing an extra pulse at each pulse-width modulation (PWM) transition. The timing of this extra pulse is crucial for suppressing the resonance, but due to nonlinearities in a real system, the time instants may vary over time and are thus in need of control. In this study, an analytical expression for the optimal pulse location and duration is derived and we propose a control algorithm that continuously calculates the optimal pulse switch time instants based on the measured output voltage. The control algorithm can handle sudden system disturbances and a Monte Carlo simulation is performed to evaluate the performance of the algorithm. This hybrid filter successfully reduces dv/dt's at the motor terminals while simultaneously eliminating overvoltages due to the filter resonance. © 2024 IEEE.

Recent developments in sensor technology have enabled real-time data acquisition, high-frequency and multimodal data capturing thus underlying the need for monitoring physical or operational conditions in various aspects of the data. High dimensionality and volume of the data poses significant statistical challenges creating a need for accurate concept drift detection and prompt responses, a task that can be performed either by an algorithm or by human expert. Visual analytics plays a crucial role in concept drift detection by enabling analysts to visually explore, analyze, and interpret complex data streams, facilitating real-time monitoring, decision-making, and communication with stakeholders. This paper examines the usability of radar graphs for concept drift exploration, as well as their usage in other steps of analysis. For the purpose of demonstration, a pipeline for real-time health data analysis is presented and steps are visualized using radar graphs. © 2024 IEEE.

Wireless networks have become integral to modern communication infrastructure, facilitating seamless connectivity in various domains. However, their presence everywhere also makes them vulnerable to various attacks. Those can cause failure in network services. Indeed, a robust Wireless Intrusion Detection System (WIDS) is essential for identifying and mitigating attacks on wireless networks. The key objective of WIDS is to detect wireless traffic and classify it as an attack or normal. In this situation, machine learning (ML) algorithms are used to detect attacks or intrusions in wireless systems. However, these algorithms need to accurately detect attacks early. Feature selection (FS) techniques are used to reduce this detection time and increase accuracy. These allow our system to identify attacks against local nodes. The proposed system is implemented, experimented and tested on AWID3 dataset. The performance of the system is determined by using a random forest (RF) algorithm and FS selection techniques. The experimentation conducted on AWID3 shows that the proposed methodology achieved an accuracy of 99.9990% for the binary model using 143 significant features and an accuracy of 99.9985% for multilabel classification using 144 significant features © 2024 IEEE.

The increasing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) necessitates the efficient management of large EV parking facilities to prevent them from exceeding grid capacity and to improve the overall user experience. This paper introduces a data-driven approach for coordinated control of EV charging in an office parking facility, integrating Early Departure Buttons (EDB) into the system. These buttons provide a binary option for users to indicate an earlier departure than a predefined time. We employ the EDB data to improve departure time estimations and to address issues where EVs receive no or only very low energy. We utilize three datasets originating from different geographical locations. One dataset displays a user pattern where users leave shortly after completing their charging, unlike the other datasets which follow typical working hours. Our simulations show that the unique user pattern significantly increases fairness among users, and integrating EDBs improves fairness for the other datasets to levels similar to those of quick station turnover. © 2024 IEEE.

Retinal diseases are leading causes of blindness globally. In real-world clinical practice, a patient may suffer from multiple retinal diseases, and these diseases are often under a long-tailed distribution, which poses significant challenges for accurate diagnosis. In this work, we propose a novel contrastive learning(CL)-based framework for multi-label retinal disease recognition. It consists of two parallel branches, a multi-label supervised contrastive learning branch and a classifier branch. The positive sets are created by the extent of proportional label overlap between samples and the anchor in calculating contrastive loss. For minority information enhancement, we design a hybrid-proxy model to generate class-dependent proxies, which are updated alongside the network. We capture rich relations samples, proxies, and labels by introducing the hybrid sample-proxy contrastive loss. Taking both label co-occurrence and data imbalance into consideration, we further utilize Distribution Balanced (DB) binary cross-entropy loss to guide the classifier branch learning. Experimental results on four public retinal disease datasets have demonstrated the superiority and effectiveness of our method. © 2024 IEEE.
