High Efficiency Wiener Filter-based Point Cloud Quality Enhancement for MPEG G-PCC

Point clouds, which directly record the geometry and attributes of scenes or objects by a large number of points, are widely used in various applications such as virtual reality and immersive communication. However, due to the huge data volume and unstructured geometry, efficient compression of point clouds is very crucial. The Moving Picture Expert Group is establishing a geometry-based point cloud compression (G-PCC) standard for both static and dynamic point clouds in recent years. Although lossy compression of G-PCC can achieve a very high compression ratio, the reconstruction quality is relatively low, especially at low bitrates. To mitigate this problem, we propose a high efficiency Wiener filter that can be integrated into the encoder and decoder pipeline of G-PCC to improve the reconstruction quality as well as the rate-distortion performance for dynamic point clouds. Specifically, we first propose a basic Wiener filter, and then improve it by introducing coefficients inheritance and variance-based point classification for the Luma component. Besides, to reduce the complexity of the nearest neighbor search during the application of the Wiener filter, we also propose a Morton code-based fast nearest neighbor search algorithm for efficient calculation of filter coefficients. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve average Bjøntegaard delta rates of -6.1%, -7.3%, and -8.0% for Luma, Chroma Cb, and Chroma Cr components, respectively, under the condition of lossless-geometry-lossy-attributes configuration compared to the latest G-PCC encoding platform (i.e., geometry-based solid content test model version 7.0 release candidate 2) by consuming affordable computational complexity. © 2025 IEEE. Language-queried target sound extraction (TSE) aims to extract specific sounds from mixtures based on language queries. Traditional fully-supervised training schemes require extensively annotated parallel audio-text data, which are labor-intensive. We introduce a parallel-data-free training scheme, requiring only unlabelled audio clips for TSE model training by utilizing the contrastive language-audio pre-trained model (CLAP). In a vanilla parallel-data-free training stage, target audio is encoded using the pre-trained CLAP audio encoder to form a condition embedding, while during testing, user language queries are encoded by CLAP text encoder as the condition embedding. This vanilla approach assumes perfect alignment between text and audio embeddings, which is unrealistic. Two major challenges arise from training-testing mismatch: the persistent modality gap between text and audio and the risk of overfitting due to the exposure of rich acoustic details in target audio embedding during training. To address this, we propose a retrieval-augmented strategy. Specifically, we create an embedding cache using audio captions generated by a large language model (LLM). During training, target audio embeddings retrieve text embeddings from this cache to use as condition embeddings, ensuring consistent modalities between training and testing and eliminating information leakage. Extensive experiment results show that our retrieval-augmented approach achieves consistent and notable performance improvements over existing state-of-the-art with better generalizability. © 2025 IEEE.

For deploying deep neural networks on edge devices with limited resources, binary neural networks (BNNs) have attracted significant attention, due to their computational and memory efficiency. However, once a neural network is binarized, finetuning it on edge devices becomes challenging because most conventional training algorithms for BNNs are designed for use on centralized servers and require storing real-valued parameters during training. To address this limitation, this paper introduces binary stochastic flip optimization (BinSFO), a novel training algorithm for BNNs. BinSFO employs a parameter update rule based on Boolean operations, eliminating the need to store real-valued parameters and thereby reducing memory requirements and computational overhead. In experiments, we demonstrated the effectiveness and memory efficiency of BinSFO in fine-tuning scenarios on six image classification datasets. BinSFO performed comparably to conventional training algorithms with a 70.7% smaller memory requirement. Code is released at https://***/TatsukichiShibuya/ICASSP2025_BinSFO

Incomplete multi-view clustering (IMVC) has garnered increasing attention in recent years due to the common issue of missing data in multi-view datasets. The primary approach to address this challenge involves recovering the missing views before applying conventional multi-view clustering methods. Although imputation-based IMVC methods have achieved significant improvements, they still encounter notable limitations: 1) heavy reliance on paired data for training the data recovery module, which is impractical in real scenarios with high missing data rates;2) the generated data often lacks diversity and discriminability, resulting in suboptimal clustering results. To address these shortcomings, we propose a novel IMVC method called Diffusion Contrastive Generation (DCG). Motivated by the consistency between the diffusion and clustering processes, DCG learns the distribution characteristics to enhance clustering by applying forward diffusion and reverse denoising processes to intra-view data. By performing contrastive learning on a limited set of paired multi-view samples, DCG can align the generated views with the real views, facilitating accurate recovery of views across arbitrary missing view scenarios. Additionally, DCG integrates instance-level and category-level interactive learning to exploit the consistent and complementary information available in multi-view data, achieving robust and end-to-end clustering. FusionGCNN: An IoT-Based Novel Spatiotemporal Graph Convolutional Network for ECG Arrhythmia Detection

Electrocardiogram (ECG) arrhythmia identification is critical for early cardiovascular disease diagnosis and monitoring in Internet of Things (IoT) industry. Still, it is difficult due to complicated waveforms, individual variability, and the requirement for real-time analysis on resource-limited equipment. Traditional approaches sometimes fail to detect complicated spatial-temporal correlations in ECG data, limiting their efficiency in identifying arrhythmias. Furthermore, deploying these models in tinyML contexts, such as edge and IoT devices limited by large computational and memory needs, emphasizes the importance of lightweight, accurate models for real-time applications. Our suggested solution consists of three main components: SigNet, DualGCNN, and FusionGCNN. SigNet uses Separable Convolution layers to effectively extract local spatial features, making it ideal for IoT-based healthcare deployment. DualGCNN combines dual Graph Convolutional layers with spatial attention, allowing the model to capture local and global dependencies for better classification of arrhythmia. FusionGCNN combines the capabilities of GCN and SigNet with an effective feature fusion technique to improve feature representation while remaining computationally economical. Ablation tests show that FusionGCNN improves performance considerably, with greater accuracy (0.9641), lower training error (0.0004), and a higher F1 Score (0.9645) across a variety of ECG patterns. FusionGCNN, with its low training error, high stability, and computational economy, is well-suited to tinyML requirements, allowing implementation on edge and IoT devices for scalable, real-time ECG monitoring in healthcare. © 2014 IEEE.

Image Inversion: A Survey from GANs to Diffusion and Beyond

Image inversion is a fundamental task in generative models, aiming to map images back to their latent representations to enable downstream applications such as editing, restoration, and style transfer. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the latest advancements in image inversion techniques, focusing on two main paradigms: Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) inversion and diffusion model inversion. We categorize these techniques based on their optimization methods. For GAN inversion, we systematically classify existing methods into encoder-based approaches, latent optimization approaches, and hybrid approaches, analyzing their theoretical foundations, technical innovations, and practical trade-offs. For diffusion model inversion, we explore training-free strategies, fine-tuning methods, and the design of additional trainable modules, highlighting their unique advantages and limitations. Additionally, we discuss several popular downstream applications and emerging applications beyond image tasks, identifying current challenges and future research directions. By synthesizing the latest developments, this paper aims to provide researchers and practitioners with a valuable reference resource, promoting further advancements in the field of image inversion. In recent years, soft grippers have gained significant attention due to their adaptability and safety. However, when performing horizontal object grasping, their limited structural stiffness prevents them from withstanding the torque generated by friction between the gripper and the object, leading to a loss of contact and limiting their horizontal load capacity. To address this limitation while preserving the adaptability of soft grippers, this paper proposes a gripper structure called the rigid-soft robotic hand, which incorporates lateral rigid connecting rods outside the soft joints. The paper analyzes the bending capacity of the rigid-soft joint using kinematic methods and investigates the influence of link design parameters on maximum bending angle. Subsequently, a finite element analysis is conducted to study the finger structure with the added connecting rods, aiming to optimize the link design parameters. Experimental results demonstrate the grasping capabilities of the rigid-soft gripper in both vertical and horizontal orientations. The findings show that the rigid-soft gripper significantly improves the load-carrying capacity during horizontal object grasping while maintaining the adaptability of the soft gripper. © The Authors.

Physical Intrusion Attack Detection in Fieldbus Network With Passive Fail-Safe Biasing

Fieldbus is widely used for real-time distributed control in Industrial control Systems (ICSs) due to its simplicity and stability. The real-world fieldbus network contains hundreds of interconnected devices, presenting a widespread network layout. Attackers can attach external intrusion devices to these communication lines to launch various attacks. In this paper, we model the fieldbus network’s channel fingerprint based on the signal’s amplitude and propose a detection method to identify potential attackers (silent intrusion devices that are eavesdropping) via channel fingerprint differences. Leveraging the passive fail-safe biasing voltage in the fieldbus network such as RS485, we can still detect the intrusion device when the fieldbus is idle (i.e., no devices are transmitting commands), which can significantly reduce the detection delay with lower sampling costs. Moreover, our method can adapt to environmental changes with little computational overhead by generating dynamic thresholds. Using a monitoring unit with stored channel fingerprints, our method can be easily deployed in fieldbus networks without occupying communication resources. The effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method have been demonstrated via extensive experiments on two real-world scenarios and one simulation scenario, where we can achieve 100% accuracy and 0% false alarm rates against various intrusion devices. © 2004-2012 IEEE.
