Alkaline water electrolysis (AWE) stands out as a well-established and widely adopted technology for green hydrogen production. With the rapid development and large-scale application of industrial hydrogen plants, achieving efficient energy conversion becomes a critical factor for their economic viability. System faults can disrupt their stability and reliability, leading to decreased energy conversion efficiency and posing significant safety *** detection and diagnosis (FDD) techniques play a crucial role in safeguarding AWE plants by promptly identifying potential safety hazards and ensuring the stability of plant. However, the inherent complexity of AWE plants, coupled with the presence of significant noise disturbances, poses a significant challenge to the effectiveness of conventional FDD methods. This study proposes a novel approach for system identification and FDD using a lasso sparse state space model (Sparse SSM). This model leverages the strengths of both sparse regularization and the Kalman filter. The lasso component promotes sparsity, leading to a more concise representation of the system dynamics. By incorporating a Laplace prior, the Sparse SSM facilitates filter and smoother inference during the estimation process. This allows for more robust extraction of temporal structure information from the data, ultimately enhancing the reliability of system identification and FDD. Test results indicate critical faults in the hydrogen production process can be detected, which in turn helps to improve the safety of energy conversion efficiency in hydrogen production plants. © 2024, The Authors. Deep convolutional neural networks have been widely used in scene classification of remotely sensed images. In this work, we propose a robust learning method for the task that is secure against partially incorrect categorization of images. Specifically, we remove and correct errors in the labels progressively by iterative multi-view voting and entropy ranking. At each time step, we first divide the training data into disjoint parts for separate training and voting. The unanimity in the voting reveals the correctness of the labels, so that we can train a strong model with only the images with unanimous votes. In addition, we adopt entropy as an effective measure for prediction uncertainty, in order to partially recover labeling errors by ranking and selection. We empirically demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method on the WHU-RS19 dataset and the AID dataset. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In the era of Industry 4.0, machines are performing their assigned tasks smartly by using intelligent thinking approach. With the advancement in artificial intelligence-based algorithms, the machines are executing the decision nodes in relation to occurrence of situation from array of sensors for best judgement to actuate processes. In this regard, the processing unit of machine is trained to search for optimal solution in the data repository by using certain sequential and counter sequential approaches. The performance measures such as time and space complexity of these approaches directly pin pointing the placement of nodes and its web connection. Toward this challenge, in this paper, a new parity-based search algorithm is designed for search and execution of optimal node in relation to target node. The algorithm is genetically integrated with blind and heuristic search of node to explore different index wise parities. Sufficient number of iterative trails were done to measure the key performance parameters and comparative analysis were done for significant inferences. The algorithm is designed and simulated in LabVIEW-2020 workbench. From the results, it has been observed that the even and odd parity-based time complexity performance is appreciable in trade off with other performance parameters. The execution speed of modified parity modules gives an optimal solution in different situations to make automation process faster and reliable. From this study, new search-based strategies can be developed and implemented in automation sector for betterment. © 2021 IEEE.

In recent years, as people’s living standards have improved and consumption concepts have been transformed, the demand for purchasing consumer electronics online has continued to grow, further stimulating the development of the logistics industry. Consequently, how to deliver consumer electronics to households at minimal cost has become a crucial factor that limits the development of the consumer technology industry. To tackle this problem, this paper studies the task assignment problem for multiple initially dispersed UAVs to deliver products to target locations while minimizing their total operation time. Each UAV can continuously provide delivery services to multiple target locations within its limited loading capacity and operation time. To solve this problem, we propose several hybrid multipopulation genetic algorithms. First, a novel crossover operator for the genetic algorithms is designed, through which a single parent chromosome can generate offspring individually. Second, two mutation mechanisms are performed to increase gene diversity. Third, multiple local search strategies are employed to enhance the populations’ fitness during each iteration of evolution. An improved 2-opt local search strategy is applied to optimize individual chromosomes when their similarity with the current best chromosome falls below a prescribed threshold. Alternatively, local search strategies are utilized for 1-opt, 2h-opt and interchange processes. Combining local search strategies, genetic operators, and the multi-population mechanism leads to several hybrid multi-population genetic algorithms. Numerical simulations and experimental tests demonstrate that the hybrid multi-population genetic algorithm, integrated with the improved 2-opt and 1-opt local search strategies, exhibits superior performance among the designed hybrid genetic algorithms, the minimum marginal cost algorithm (MMA), and the existing popular Co-evolutionary Multi-population Genetic Algorithm (CMGA). Cloud-based energy management systems (EMS) in smart grids face privacy challenges, as existing methods based on traditional homomorphic encryption support limited operations and are vulnerable to quantum attacks. We propose a privacy preservation method for smart grid energy management system, leveraging edge-assisted computing and ring learning with errors (RLWE) homomorphic encryption. Our approach enables both addition and multiplication operations on encrypted smart grid data while defending against quantum threats. We demonstrate the methods security under the RLWE hardness assumption and validate its effectiveness through an experimental platform simulating smart grid environments. This work addresses computational limitations in current privacy-preserving techniques, enhancing data security for evolving smart grid technologies © 2010-2012 IEEE.

In this paper, the problem of backward compatibility of active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) is investigated. The goal is to contextualize ADRC to deliver its interpretations from the established field of linear control systems. For this study, a control algorithm, denoted here as integral disturbance rejection control (IDRC), is considered that combines classical state-feedback control with an integral compensator. At first, an interpretation of ADRC is involved in terms of existing state-space control approaches. Next, a transition to the frequency domain is performed, which is justified as a significant part of practical control engineering is conducted in that domain. For assumed specific plant structures, both ADRC and IDRC are then holistically compared in terms of transfer function representation and frequency characteristics, as well as steady-state convergence conditions. Such a juxtaposition helps to highlight the similarities and differences of both approaches, whereas the utilized bandwidth parameterization is shown to bring the control system to the same form, thus indicating some interesting practical aspects. Finally, the theoretical results concerning both considered control structures are validated in a set of numerical simulations and experiments conducted on a laboratory hardware testbed. © 2025 The Author(s).

Climate change and geopolitics have led to the conception of plans for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving the sustainability of existing fossil-based energy systems. In this respect, district heating has been identified as an indispensable player for its potential to integrate seamlessly environmentally-friendly heat sources. To improve the efficiency of these district heating systems, optimal operation schemes can be devised and enforced through control systems. To this end, we present a control-oriented nonlinear ODE-based model of temperature dynamics in a multi-producer district heating system. The model features a modular design and comprises the thermal dynamics of heat exchangers of producers and consumers interconnected by a distribution network of meshed topology. Then, we establish passivity properties and zero-state detectability for the modeled temperature dynamics that could be exploited for controller design and solving constrained optimization problems.

Quadrotors may crash and cause severe accidents under instantaneously drastic disturbances. To mitigate the effect of such disturbances, these critical issues should be considered: efficient disturbance observation and compensation, full attitude controllability, and instant output power generation of the quadrotor. In this paper, to keep the quadrotor stable even under suddenly drastic disturbances, a novel control framework is presented to by integrating the advantages of active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) as well as geometric control for a quadrotor with bidirectional thrust capabilities. Moreover, to strengthen the adaptability under significant disturbances, a novel switching strategy is introduced into the control framework by virtue of the quadrotor’s bidirectional thrust capabilities. The ADRC scheme is performed when the disturbances are within a range; alternatively, if the disturbances surpass the preset range and the desired control is beyond the ultimate output of the quadrotor, the quadrotor compliantly responds by executing a 180° flip reverse flight to handle such drastic disturbances. Numerical and real-world experiments demonstrate that the proposed robust control strategy has superior performance adapts to instantaneously drastic disturbances.

With rapid growth and a higher standard of living, the demand for usable energy has increased tremendously over the last few decades, with the construction industry being one of the most notable examples. The energy efficiency of a building is influenced by a variety of factors, including the weather in the area, the structure characteristics, and how people use electricity. These algorithms can be used to generate a prediction model for smart building indoor temperature forecasting using the Internet of Things and several commonly used artificial intelligence algorithms, which can then be used to generate a prediction model for smart building outdoor temperature forecasting. It was necessary to employ freely accessible software tools in order to make geometric and sensory data available in a virtual reality application and to build the PMV and PPD indices. On a low-cost edge computing device, semi-automatic analysis of streaming thermal images from a non-intrusive sensor was performed in order to offer near real-time Mean Radiant Temperature (MRT)estimations. An experimental space that had been mechanically preconditioned was filled with a dynamic temperature environment, and a prototype of the system was employed in a series of trials. Results show that the data backs up the fact that the system output and the heat sensations felt under different settings are consistent. © 2022 IEEE.

As an important component of the sixth generation communication technologies, the space-air-ground integrated network (SAGIN) attracts increasing attentions in recent years. However, due to the mobility and heterogeneity of the components such as satellites and unmanned aerial vehiclesin multi-layer SAGIN, the challenges of inefficient resource allocation and management complexity are aggregated. To this end, the network function virtualization technology is introduced and can be implemented via service function chains (SFCs) deployment. However, urgent unexpected tasks may bring conflicts and resource competition during SFC deployment, and how to schedule the SFCs of multiple tasks in SAGIN is a key issue. In this paper, we address the dynamic and complexity of SAGIN by presenting a reconfigurable time extension graph and further propose the dynamic SFC scheduling model. Then, we formulate the SFC scheduling problem to maximize the number of successful deployed SFCs within limited resources and time horizons. Since the problem is in the form of integer linear programming and intractable to solve, we propose the algorithm by incorporating deep reinforcement learning. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better convergence and performance compared to other benchmark algorithms. © 2025 IEEE.
