This paper examines finite-time (F-T) observer-based control of fractional-order nonlinear systems with time delay, employing the Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy (T-SF) approach. This study utilizes the conformable fractional derivative (CFD) as its foundational framework. Sufficient conditions are formulated to guarantee that the augmented vector, consisting of the state estimates and the state estimation errors, stays within a ball centered at the origin. This applies not only to specified initial conditions but also to predefined disturbances. These conditions are then reformulated as linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) conditions, which can be efficiently solved using the LMI toolbox. Temporal and Spatial Perception: A Novel Perceptual Rate-Distortion Optimization Method for H.266/VVC Encoding

Introducing saliency information to mitigate perceptual redundancy and achieve superior compression represents a novel approach to the development of video compression. Existing saliency-based compression coding methods rely on the determination of saliency regions and focus too much on saliency regions while ignoring the perceptible distortion in non-saliency regions. We propose a spatiotemporal visual perceptual rate-distortion optimization (PRDO) algorithm for Versatile Video Coding (H.266/VVC) that is more in line with the human visual system (HVS). Firstly, we establish a linear weighted distortion model based on spatiotemporal and saliency features. The distortion model makes effective use of saliency features while considering image content in non-saliency regions that is still perceptible to the human eye, thereby achieving an overall visual effect that conforms to human subjective perception. Based on this distortion model, we propose a saliency adaptive quantization parameter (SAQP) selection method with a more flexible quantization parameter selection range, adaptively allocating the optimal coding unit quantization parameter according to the saliency regions of the image, ensuring a balanced bitrate allocation between saliency and non-saliency regions. The proposed method is implemented for the first time on the H.266/VVC coding standard, attaining an average bitrate saving of 19.9% across all test sequences and an average PSNR improvement of 2.65 dB in saliency regions compared to VTM16.0. The BD-EWPSNR of the proposed PRDO and SAQP method improves by 1.34 dB and 1.45 dB in the All-Intra and Lowdelay-P encoding modes, respectively. Additionally, the BD-Rate based on EWPSNR is reduced by 25.86% and 33.73%, respectively, with an overall compression coding time saving of 19.76%. GrasOpen: Biometric Authentication via Reach-and-Grasp for Smart Door Access Using Smartwatch

In the domain of smart devices, biometric identity authentication has become a leading and crucial technology, mainly because of its improved security and user convenience. Traditional methods frequently depend on complex activities, facial recognition, or passwords, which can be cumbersome and error-prone. This paper presents GrasOpen, an innovative biometric authentication system tailored for door-opening scenarios, utilizing the natural reach-and-grasp motion linked to door handles. The system employs smartwatches with accelerometers and gyroscopes to track and analyze arm movements, ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience. GrasOpen tackles key challenges by leveraging the unique characteristics of the reach-and-grasp motion, eliminating the necessity for users to remember complex motions, and avoiding redundant actions like waiting for facial recognition. Specifically, GrasOpen initially proposes a lightweight model to discern door-opening actions from daily activities. Then, to realize the robust authentication system, GrasOpen integrates a complementary filter (CF) method to capture diversity-dependent features in door-opening actions. These features are subsequently processed through a modified ConvBoost model for precise user authentication. Experimental results reveal an impressive accuracy of 98.78% for activity recognition and 98.65% for identity authentication, highlighting GrasOpen’s excellence in function and performance. Explainable Application Intent for Zero-Touch Networking: An Incorporation of Hypergraph and Transformer

The autonomous interpretation of application intent (APPI) represents the primary step towards achieving closed-loop autonomy in zero-touch networking (ZTN) and also a prerequisite for intent-based networking (IBN). However, understanding APPIs and invoking the corresponding network resources require network professionals with extensive technical expertise to customize network service requests (NSRs), which presents significant challenges for the large-scale deployment of ZTN. This paper investigates an interesting problem of autonomous interpretation of APPIs for ZTN, where a novel mechanism integrating hypergraph and transformer with completeness assurance (HyperTrans-CA) is proposed. In particular, we first involve the Bayesian theory to model APPIs interpretability as maximizing the correct transition probability, where hypergraph is used to describe the complex relationship between application characteristics (e.g., scenario function, and performance) and NSRs, including network devices, virtual network functions (VNFs), and resources. Then, the hypergraph is integrated into the encoder, decoder, and attention mechanisms of Transformer, and a completeness assurance mechanism is designed to improve the prediction accuracy. The convergence of HyperTrans-CA and the corresponding convergence speed of the hypergraph-boosted Transformer in the graph search process are also analyzed. Comprehensive simulations and empirical measurements regarding industrial internet demonstrate that HyperTrans-CA can effectively explain/understand APPIs. Compared to the state-of-the-art Transformer and ChatGPT3.5 models, HyperTrans-CA improves the prediction accuracy of APPIs mapped to VNFs by 23% and 46%, respectively, while raising the prediction accuracy of VNF locations by 8.6 and 17.3 times. © 2025 IEEE.

When dealing with expensive multiobjective optimization problems, majority of existing surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithms (SAEAs) generate solutions in decision space and screen candidate solutions mostly by using designed surrogate models. The generated solutions exhibit excessive randomness, which tends to reduce the likelihood of generating good-quality solutions and cause a long evolution to the optima. To improve SAEAs greatly, this work proposes an evolutionary algorithm based on surrogate and inverse surrogate models by 1) Employing a surrogate model in lieu of expensive (true) function evaluations;and 2) Proposing and using an inverse surrogate model to generate new solutions. By using the same training data but with its inputs and outputs being reversed, the latter is simple to train. It is then used to generate new vectors in objective space, which are mapped into decision space to obtain their corresponding solutions. Using a particular example, this work shows its advantages over existing SAEAs. The results of comparing it with state-of-the-art algorithms on expensive optimization problems show that it is highly competitive in both solution performance and efficiency. © 2014 Chinese Association of Automation.

Global Spatial-Temporal Information-based Residual ConvLSTM for Video Space-Time Super-Resolution

By converting low-frame-rate, low-resolution videos into high-frame-rate, high-resolution ones, space-time video super-resolution techniques can enhance visual experiences and facilitate more efficient information dissemination. We propose a convolutional neural network (CNN) for space-time video super-resolution, namely GIRNet. Our method combines long-term global information and short-term local information from the video to better extract complete and accurate spatial-temporal information. To generate highly accurate features and thus improve performance, the proposed network integrates a feature-level temporal interpolation module with deformable convolutions and a global spatial-temporal information-based residual convolutional long short-term memory (convLSTM) module. In the feature-level temporal interpolation module, we leverage deformable convolution, which adapts to deformations and scale variations of objects across different scene locations. This provides a more efficient solution than conventional convolution for extracting features from moving objects. Our network effectively uses forward and backward feature information to determine inter-frame offsets, leading to the direct generation of interpolated frame features. In the global spatial-temporal information-based residual convLSTM module, the first convLSTM is used to derive global spatial-temporal information from the input features, and the second convLSTM uses the previously computed global spatial-temporal information feature as its initial cell state. This second convLSTM adopts residual connections to preserve spatial information, thereby enhancing the output features. Experiments on the Vimeo90K dataset show that the proposed method outperforms open source state-of-the-art techniques in peak signal-to-noise-ratio (by 1.45 dB, 1.14 dB, and 0.2 dB over STARnet, TMNet, and 3DAttGAN, respectively), structural similarity index(by 0.027, 0.023, and 0.006 over STARnet, TMNet, and 3DAttGAN, respectiv

Empirical Bayes estimators are based on minimizing the average risk with the hyper-parameters in the weighting function being estimated from observed data. The performance of an empirical Bayes estimator is typically evaluated by its mean squared error (MSE). However, the explicit expression for its MSE is generally unavailable for finite sample sizes. To address this issue, we define a high-order analytical criterion: the excess MSE. It quantifies the performance difference between the maximum likelihood and empirical Bayes estimators. An explicit expression for the excess MSE of an empirical Bayes estimator employing a general data-dependent hyper-parameter estimator is derived. As specific instances, we provide excess MSE expressions for kernel-based regularized estimators using the scaled empirical Bayes, Stein’s unbiased risk estimation, and generalized cross-validation hyper-parameter estimators. Moreover, we propose a modification to the excess MSE expressions for regularized estimators for moderate sample sizes and show its improvement on accuracy in numerical simulations. The modern space industry requires autonomous and high-precision control systems for scientific and commercial missions. Strapdown inertial navigation systems based on laser gyroscopes play a key role in spacecraft control, especially in environments where satellite navigation is unavailable. In this paper, ring lasers with an active medium made of a helium-neon mixture, their design and operating modes are investigated. The influence of voltage on the ignition electrodes (4.2-5 kV) on the breakdown time of the active medium has been analyzed. It was found that increasing the voltage reduces the breakdown time, providing reliable activation of gyroscopes. The experimental results allowed to determine the optimal ignition parameters that increase operation reliability and reduce production losses. This contributes to the development of highly efficient spacecraft control systems, opening up new prospects for deep space exploration and control of satellite systems.

In industrial pipeline condition monitoring, class-imbalanced data distributions and multi-physics coupling effects significantly constrain the engineering applicability of intelligent diagnostic models. Class-imbalanced data lead to a scarcity of fault samples, making model training challenging. Meanwhile, complex multi-physics coupling effects complicate the prediction of equipment operating conditions. Generating synthetic data that are consistent in both statistical distribution and physical mechanism has become an effective solution to these issues. In this article, a hybrid framework that integrates a physics-informed data augmentation method with an intelligent fault diagnosis model is proposed. Within this framework, a novel physics-informed conditional generative adversarial network (PI-CGAN) is developed, where a physics-informed network (PIN) converts equipment behavior equations into implicit constraints for the generator, ensuring dual consistency in both statistical distributions and physical mechanisms. Subsequently, a hybrid attention module (HAM) is proposed to enhance data diversity and quality through cross-channel feature correlation and critical temporal segment localization. Furthermore, a multi-scale attention convolutional neural network (MSACNN) is developed to effectively decouple coupled features under complex operating conditions via a multi-scale attention mechanism. Experimental results demonstrate that under extreme data imbalance conditions, the proposed hybrid diagnostic framework can generate industrially viable synthetic data while achieving accurate fault identification. © 2025

Degenerative illnesses that lead to the eventual death of brain neurons afflict a large number of people. Compared to the traditional Machine Learning (ML) approach, the recent success in the medical community of classifying Alzheimer's Disease (AD) utilized a Deep Learning (DL) technique eliminates the necessity for manual feature extraction techniques. Although DL methods are widely used, there is currently a dearth of trustworthy and comprehensive research on the quantitative analysis of brain Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI) data. In this paper, an effective AD classification approach is proposed that use MRI to classify brain structure and diagnose AD. Gaussian filter is used to eliminate noises at different degrees of complexity, noisy backgrounds, low contrast, and partial volume effect in the original input image. Next, K-Means clustering segmentation is useful for dividing image into different regions based on pixel intensity values. Key features for categorization are extracted using the Gray Level Co-Occurrence Matrix (GLCM) method. A Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), enhanced by Falcon Optimization Algorithm (FOA), is employed for AD categorization. The proposed system, implemented on the Python platform using the best Alzheimer's MRI dataset, demonstrates an enhanced accuracy of 93.21 %. Additionally, this model-based approach provides a capable avenue for advancing research in the early detection of AD and holds substantial potential in differentiating AD patients from healthy individuals.
