—With the rapid development of autonomous driving, collision avoidance has attracted attention from both academia and industry. Many collision avoidance strategies have emerged in recent years, but the dynamic and complex nature of driving environment poses a challenge to develop robust collision avoidance algorithms. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a decentralized framework named RACE: Reinforced Cooperative Autonomous Vehicle Collision AvoidancE. Leveraging a hierarchical architecture we develop an algorithm named Co-DDPG to efficiently train autonomous vehicles. Through a security abiding channel, the autonomous vehicles distribute their driving policies. We use the relative distances obtained by the opponent sensors to build the VANET instead of locations, which ensures the vehicle’s location privacy. With a leader-follower architecture and parameter distribution, RACE accelerates the learning of optimal policies and efficiently utilizes the remaining resources. We implement the RACE framework in the widely used TORCS simulator and conduct various experiments to measure the performance of RACE. Evaluations show that RACE quickly learns optimal driving policies and effectively avoids collisions. Moreover, RACE also scales smoothly with varying number of participating vehicles. We further compared RACE with existing autonomous driving systems and show that RACE outperforms them by experiencing 65% less collisions in the training process and exhibits improved performance under varying vehicle density. Protecting soldiers in the long march of platoon formation is crucial mission in the military operation. Autonomous ground mobile robots can be deployed to carry out such kind of the mission. The primary task is maintaining robot position automatically based on the movement of soldier in a platoon formation. The GPS is employed to determine the soldier current pose. This information is used as an input to create a dynamic convex hull around a platoon. The Proportional-Integral (PI) controller is applied to control each robot so it can move in a desired trajectory. The fuzzy logic control (FLC) is involved to tune the gain of PI controller to optimize the performance. Three protective robots and nine soldiers are used to evaluate the algorithm in simulation. The proposed algorithm will provide a platoon soldiers with optimal protection encirclement and enhance their safety. The simulation results show good performance using the proposed controller.

Given the escalating environmental challenges, it is clear that the approach to the usage of public transport (PT) must be reconsidered. Loyal PT users help attract other travelers through positive recommendations, this drives interest in exploring the relationships between service quality, satisfaction, and loyalty. Although these relationships in the PT context have been studied, there have been limited efforts to explore the variability of their effects. Therefore, this research explores how service quality, satisfaction, involvement, and prior knowledge influence the behavioral intentions to use PT across various traveler groups. The hypotheses are tested by using multi-group analysis in the structural equation modeling framework, and three user profiles are revealed by applying the latent class cluster analysis. The results indicate that involvement strongly influences the behavioral intentions, while satisfaction impacts the intentions solely when involvement acts as a moderator. Class-specific results indicate that younger females living outside the city center put greater emphasis on service quality improvements for their satisfaction and involvement in PT services compared to males and older individuals residing in the city center. Low-income students living in the city center are more likely to use PT if they feel confident how to use the service. The results are relevant for PT operators and related stakeholders in maintaining travelers’ loyalty. © 2025 The Author(s)

A common cause of loss of vision for humans is lens opacity, or cat aracts, which prevent patients from having a full field of vision and lower their visual acuities. Cataracts can be corrected for by replacing the opaque lens with a toric intraocular lens. The calculation for the placement of the toric lens is exceedingly important for the patient´s recovery of vision. Some houses, take date form medical equipment and perform the calculation, but more depends on the experience of the treating physician to ensure the desired effectiveness and efficiency, For this reason, in this investigation, the proposal is presented to perform the calculation, in addition, the approach to simulation of the placement of the lens inside the eye, especially in its axial length and depth in the anterior chamber, determinants for short, medium and long distance with an automatic focus and appropriate, in like manner, the results are exposed to the specialists of the clinic "Santa Lucia" in the city of Quito. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness worldwide and the first in an irreversible way, many of the studies and investigations are concentrated in methods of control and treatment, however, there are few studies carried out in the areas of prevention and early detection of glaucoma, so, in this research presents the effect of increased intraocular pressure in the optic nerve, especially in damage caused in the layer of nerve fibers and their impact with the visual field, To do this, you work with background images of human eye, obtained from the Clinic "Santa Lucia", digital image processing to characterize parameters that determine a presumptive diagnosis of glaucoma suspect, the results are presented to specialists for a medical diagnosis. © 2020, The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In search of more effective methods in the diagnosis vision and reduce the risk of post-operative ectasia, this article considers the importance of the biomechanical properties of the cornea and its close relationship with the development of corneal and possible conditions diseases in the human eye. For that reason, part of the literature is the review and analysis of the methods raised to remove accurate information from medical equipment, especially in the equipment Oculus Corvis and ORA from the Clinic "Santa Lucia" in the city of Quito. The corneal indices derived from these instruments can measure biomechanical parameters, but that is not accurate because of features such as geometry or thickness of the central corneal. The Young’s modulus corresponds to the elasticity of the corneal tissue. In addition, it is an important biomechanical feature that states different solutions for their extraction in vitro or in vivo through the use of numerical methods and/or modeling of complex systems of equations to simulate the real corneal tissue. There is also the obtaining of the elasticity of the cornea through processes of images of the human eye, which shows the action of the cornea at the time of using the tonometer. As a result, it demonstrate, in some cases, that the Young’s modulus relates only to the intraocular pressure, but also in other cases, it changes due to the increase of other factors such as age of people, corneal resistance, the central cornea thickness, etc. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The smart water meter in water supply network can directly affect water production and usage when faults occur. The traditional method of fault detection is inefficient with time lagging, which is not helpful for modernization of water supply system. The capability of automatic fault diagnosis of smart water meter is an important means to improve the service quality of water supply. In this paper, an automatic fault diagnosis method for the smart device is proposed based on BP neural network. And it was applied on Google Tensorflow platform. Fault symptom vectors were constructed using water meter status data and were used to train the neural network model. In order to improve the learning convergence speed and fault classification effect of the network, a method of weighted symptom was also employed. Experimental results show that it has good performance with a general fault diagnosis accuracy of 98.82%. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

In this paper, we derive the asymptotic Cramér-Rao lower bound for the continuous-time output error model structure and provide an analysis of the statistical efficiency of the Simplified Refined Instrumental Variable method for Continuous-time systems (SRIVC) based on sampled data. It is shown that the asymptotic Cramér-Rao lower bound is independent of the intersample behaviour of the noise-free system output and hence only depends on the intersample behaviour of the system input. We have also shown that, at the converging point of the SRIVC algorithm, the estimates do not depend on the intersample behaviour of the measured output. It is then proven that the SRIVC estimator is asymptotically efficient for the output error model structure under mild conditions. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to verify the asymptotic Cramér-Rao lower bound and the asymptotic covariance of the SRIVC estimates. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Background: To enhance postoperative patient survival, particularly in older adults, understanding the predictors of mortality following hip fracture becomes paramount. Air pollution, a prominent global environmental issue, has been linked to heightened morbidity and mortality across a spectrum of diseases. Nevertheless, the precise impact of air pollution on hip fracture outcomes remains elusive. Objective: This retrospective study aims to comprehensively investigate the profound influence of a decade-long exposure to 12 diverse air pollutants on the risk of post–hip fracture mortality among older Taiwanese patients (older than 60 years). We hypothesized that enduring long-term exposure to air pollution would significantly elevate the 1-year mortality rate following hip fracture surgery. Methods: From Taiwan’s National Health Insurance Research Database, we obtained the data of patients who underwent hip fracture surgery between July 1, 2003, and December 31, 2013. Using patients’ insurance registration data, we estimated their cumulative exposure levels to sulfur dioxide (SO2), carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), ozone (O3), particulate matter having a size of <10 μm (PM10), particulate matter having a size of <2.5 μm (PM2.5), nitrogen oxides (NOX), nitrogen monoxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), total hydrocarbons (THC), nonmethane hydrocarbons (NMHC), and methane (CH4). We quantified the dose-response relationship between these air pollutants and the risk of mortality by calculating hazard ratios associated with a 1 SD increase in exposure levels over a decade. Results: Long-term exposure to SO2, CO, PM10, PM2.5, NOX, NO, NO2, THC, NMHC, and CH4 demonstrated significant associations with heightened all-cause mortality risk within 1 year post hip fracture surgery among older adults. Resonant beam communications (RBCom) is capable of providing wide bandwidth when using light as the carrier. Besides, the RBCom system possesses the characteristics of mobility, high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and multiplexing. Nevertheless, the channel of the RBCom system is distinct from other light communication technologies due to the echo interference issue. In this paper, we reveal the mechanism of the echo interference and propose the method to eliminate the interference. Moreover, we present an exemplary design based on frequency shifting and optical filtering, along with its mathematic model and performance analysis. The numerical evaluation shows that the channel capacity is greater than 15 bit/s/Hz. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.
