To accommodate exponentially increasing traffic demands of vehicle-based applications, operators are utilizing offloading as a promising technique to improve quality of service (QoS), which gives rise to the application of Mobile Edge Computing (MEC). While the conventional offloading paradigms focus on delay and energy tradeoff, they either fail to find efficient models to represent delay, especially the queueing delay, or underestimate the role of MEC Server. In this paper, we propose a novel Pre-Allocation Design for vehicular Offloading (PADO). A task delay queue is constructed based on an allocate-execute separate (AES) mechanism. Due to the dynamics of vehicular network, we are inspired to utilize Lyapunov optimization to minimize the execution cost of each vehicle and guarantee task delay. The MEC Server with energy harvesting devices is also taken into consideration of the system. The transaction between vehicles and server is decided by a Stackelberg Game framework. In this paper, we extendthe popular dictionary pair learning (DPL) into the scenario of twin-projective latent flexible DPL under a structured ***, a novel framework called Twin-Projective Latent Flexible DPL(TP-DPL) is proposed, which minimizes the twin-incoherence constrained flexibly-relaxed reconstruction errorto avoid the possible over-fitting issue and produce accurate reconstruction. In this setting, our TP-DPL integrates the twin-incoherence based latent flexible DPLand the joint embedding of codesas well assalient features by twin-projection into a unified model in an adaptive neighborhood-preserving manner. As a result, TP-DPL unifies the salient feature extraction, representation and classification. The twin-incoherence constrainton codesand features can explicitly ensure high intra-class compactness and inter-class separation overthem. TP-DPL also integrates the adaptive weighting to preserve the local neighborhood of the coefficientsand salient features with in each class explicitly. For efficiency, TP-DPL uses Frobenius-normand abandonsthe costly l0/l1-norm for group sparse representation. Another byproductis that TP-DPL can directly apply the class-specific twin-projective reconstruction residualto computethe label of data. In this paper, we consider a secure distributed filtering problem for linear time-invariant systems with bounded noises and unstable dynamics under compromised observations. A malicious attacker is able to compromise a subset of the agents and manipulate the observations arbitrarily. We first propose a recursive distributed filter consisting of two parts at each time. The first part employs a saturation-like scheme, which gives a small gain if the innovation is too large. The second part is a consensus operation of state estimates among neighboring agents. A sufficient condition is then established for the boundedness of estimation error, which is with respect to network topology, system structure, and the maximal compromised agent subset. We further provide an equivalent statement, which connects to 2s-sparse observability in the centralized framework in certain scenarios, such that the sufficient condition is feasible. Numerical simulations are finally provided to illustrate the developed results.

This paper describes a real-time multi-objective predictive control strategy for the wheelchair ergometer platform, which allows simulating the manual wheelchair (MWC) propulsion in virtual reality (VR). A nonlinear least-square method is used to build the predictive wheelchair ergometer model, where the trust-region-reflective algorithm is adopted. A detailed study of the wheelchair dynamics, and its performance on the rollers, and the frictions are presented. The main contribution is the implementation of a wheelchair ergometer model into a proposed controller in order to provide realistic navigation within the VR world by accurately detecting and tracking the rotation of the driving wheels. In particular, the proposed strategy has two objectives: 1) to generate force feedback (haptics) during the push phase (hand-to-rim contact); 2) assistance control to make the wheelchair movement more realistic in the immersive virtual environment during the recovery phase (hand-to-rim no contact). Various numerical examples emphasize the flexibility of the approach and experimental results confirm that the proposed controller successfully tracks the speed reference. It is also shown that the real-time tracking ability of the explicit MPC (eMPC) controller is superior to that of the PI controller.

A manual wheelchair (MWC) is an indispensable support for a person with reduced mobility. The researches on improving performance of MWC, therefore, should be validated by a reliable simulation platform, which allows simulating the MWC operation in virtual reality (VR), before being tested on real conditions. This research aims to provide a fully-constituted dynamical model of MWC which will be used in simulator platform to simulate the real movements of wheelchair and to generate the force feedback (haptics) during the push phase (hand-to-rim contact). With focus on the performance of wheelchair at the low-speed region, this model comprised the tire-road contact forces and the influence of the front free caster wheels. Validation experiments simulating several typical daily maneuvers of the manual wheelchair were conducted. Compared to previous research, the new model presented in this paper overcomes the problem of overestimating the the yaw rate.

Existing face hallucination methods based on convolutional neural networks (CNN) have achieved impressive performance on low-resolution (LR) faces in a normal illumination condition. However, their performance degrades dramatically when LR faces are captured in low or non-uniform illumination conditions. This paper proposes a Copy and Paste Generative Adversarial Network (CPGAN) to recover authentic high-resolution (HR) face images while compensating for low and nonuniform illumination. To this end, we develop two key components in our CPGAN: internal and external Copy and Paste nets (CPnets). Specifically, our internal CPnet exploits facial information residing in the input image to enhance facial details;while our external CPnet leverages an external HR face for illumination compensation. A new illumination compensation loss is thus developed to capture illumination from the external guided face image effectively. Furthermore, our method offsets illumination and upsamples facial details alternately in a coarse-to-fine fashion, thus alleviating the correspondence ambiguity between LR inputs and external HR inputs. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method manifests authentic HR face images in a uniform illumination condition and outperforms state-of-the-art methods qualitatively and quantitatively. Active disturbance rejection controllers have been applied in a certain range in industrial processes. Aiming at the control difficulties of a class of large inertia and large delay thermal processes in thermal power plant, this paper studies two second-order linear ADRC parameter setting methods, and discusses their control effects and applicability. Based on the known process model, one method is to transform model into the form of $K/(Ts+1)^{n}$, and then based on the given maximum sensitivity function, the controller parameter tuning formula is obtained through the asymptote of the Nyquist curve; the other is to transform model into the form of $Ke^{-\tau s}/(Ts+1)$, and then the controller parameters are designed with this approximate model. Taking the superheated steam temperature system of a 330MW thermal power unit as the controlled object, the simulation study was performed by LADRC. The calculation of the control efficiency index and the integration index of ITAE and ISE is carried out from the three aspects, which are set-point tracking, robust performance and noise test. The control effect and scope of application of the two empirical setting formulas are analyzed and the valuable guidance is given.

Modern power systems are evolving into sociotechnical systems with massive complexity, whose real-time operation and dispatch go beyond human capability. Thus,the need for developing and applying new intelligent power system dispatch tools are of great practical significance. In this paper, we introduce the overall business model of power system dispatch, the top level design approach of an intelligent dispatch system, and the parallel intelligent technology with its dispatch applications. We expect that a new dispatch paradigm,namely the parallel dispatch, can be established by incorporating various intelligent technologies, especially the parallel intelligent technology, to enable secure operation of complex power grids,extend system operators' capabilities, suggest optimal dispatch strategies, and to provide decision-making recommendations according to power system operational goals.

Forced variational integrator for distance-based shape control with flocking behavior of multi-agent systems

A multi-agent system designed to achieve distance-based shape control with flocking behavior can be seen as a mechanical system described by a Lagrangian function and subject to additional external forces. Forced variational integrators are given by the discretization of Lagrange-d’Alembert principle for systems subject to external forces, and have proved useful for numerical simulation studies of complex dynamical systems. We derive forced variational integrators that can be employed in the context of control algorithms for distance-based shape with velocity consensus. In particular, we provide an accurate numerical integrator with a lower computational cost than traditional solutions, while preserving the configuration space and symmetries. We also provide an explicit expression for the integration scheme in the case of an arbitrary number of agents with double integrator dynamics. For a numerical comparison of the performances, we use a planar formation consisting of three autonomous agents. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This review explores the advancements in MXene-based nanomaterials as flame-retardant additives for polymers and composites, driven by increasing fire safety demands across industries. It highlights the critical role of flame-retardant materials in mitigating fire hazards in structures, electronics, transportation, and textiles, emphasizing the need for innovative solutions due to stricter safety regulations. MXenes, a class of two-dimensional nanomaterials with unique structural properties such as high surface area, tunable composition, and superior thermal stability, are presented as promising candidates. The review discusses various synthesis and incorporation techniques for MXenes in polymer matrices, showcasing improvements in flame retardancy, mechanical properties, and thermal stability. Additionally, it emphasizes the multifunctionality of MXenes, which offer conductivity, electromagnetic shielding, and mechanical reinforcement alongside flame suppression. In conclusion, the review underscores MXenes' potential to address challenges in flame-retardant materials, advocating for further research to optimize their applications and explore synergies with other agents to enhance safety and sustainability in engineering materials.
