In this article, we propose an updated version of our previously developed model for predicting drug-side effect associations, applied to two case studies: long QT syndrome and asthma. The classifier accepts the name of a specific drug side effect as input and outputs a list of drugs potentially associated with this side effect. By simulating how drug effects propagate within the interactome using the Random Walk with Restart algorithm, the classifier identifies genes potentially associated with the onset of the side effect. Based on the rationale that the more a drug perturbs these genes, the more likely it is to cause the side effect, the model identifies drugs potentially linked to the onset of the side effect. Moreover, the model enables the categorization of drugs into chemical subclasses using the ClassyFire schema, facilitating the analysis of complex side effects, such as asthma, through more specific mechanisms. The results show that the model identifies both drugs known to be associated with certain side effects, as well as drugs not officially reported by the FDA, demonstrating its generalizability and practical relevance. This method is also adaptable for analyzing other side effects. © 2024 IEEE.

MIMO performance enhancement of MIMO arrays using PCS-based near-field optimization technique

Extensive efforts have been made in designing large multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO)arrays. Nevertheless, improvements in conventional antenna characteristics cannot ensure significant MIMO performance improvement in realistic multipath environments. Array decorrelation techniques have been proposed, achieving correlation reductions by either tilting the antenna beams or shifting the phase centers away from each other. Hence, these methods are mainly limited to MIMO terminals with small arrays. To avoid such problems, this work proposes a decorrelation optimization technique based on phase correcting surface(PCS)that can be applied to large MIMO arrays, enhancing their MIMO performances in a realistic(non-isotropic)multipath environment. First, by using a near-field channel model and an optimization algorithm, a near-field phase distribution improving the MIMO capacity is obtained. Then the PCS(consisting of square elements)is used to cover the array's aperture, achieving the desired near-field phase *** examples demonstrate the effectiveness of this PCS-based near-field optimization technique. One is a1 × 4 dual-polarized patch array(working at 2.4 GHz)covered by a 2 × 4 PCS with 0.6λ center-to-center distance. The other is a 2 × 8 dual-polarized dipole array, for which a 4 × 8 PCS with 0.4λ center-to-center distance is designed. Their MIMO capacities can be effectively enhanced by 8% and 10% in single-cell and multi-cell scenarios, respectively. The PCS has insignificant effects on mutual coupling, matching, and the average radiation efficiency of the patch array, and increases the antenna gain by about 2.5 dB while keeping broadside radiations to ensure good cellular coverage, which benefits the MIMO performance of the *** proposed technique offers a new perspective for improving large MIMO arrays in realistic multipath in a statistical sense.

The IoT based Smart farmland using deep learning is a system for tracking animals on agricultural land combines surveillance cameras, drones, an Arduino controller, IR sensors, and an LCD display to detect and tally the animal's presence. Upon detection, the system utilizes AI methods to categorize the animal type and send immediate SMS notifications to farmers through a GSM module. It incorporates an animal-repellant buzzer and a gate control mechanism. Through the use of transfer learning with CNN models, it accurately identifies four specific animal species: elephants, cows, goats, and pigs. Continuous updates and training with new data maintain its precision, serving the agricultural and wildlife protection domains. This technology significantly aids farmers in safeguarding their crops, offering crucial insights into intrusions and amplifying crop yield. Its primary purpose revolves around simplifying the identification of animals on agricultural land. © 2024 IEEE.

The Intersection of Genetics and Neuroimaging: A Systematic Review of Imaging Genetics in Neurological Disease for Personalized Treatment

Imaging genetics is one of the important keys to precision medicine that leads to personalized treatment based on a patient’s genetics, phenotype, or psychosocial characteristics. It deepens the understanding of the mechanisms through which genetic variations contribute to neurological and psychiatric disorders. This systematic review overviews the methods and applications of imaging genetics in the context of neurological diseases, mentioning its potential role in personalized medicine. Following PRISMA guidelines, this review systematically analyzes 28 studies integrating genetic and neuroimaging data to explore disease mechanisms and their implications for precision medicine. Selected research included multiple neurological disorders, including frontotemporal dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, Parkinson’s disease, and others. Voxel-based morphometry was the most common imaging technique, while frequently examined genetic variants included APOE, C9orf72, MAPT, GRN, COMT, and BDNF. Associations between these variants and regional gray matter loss (e.g., frontal, temporal, or subcortical regions) suggest that genetic risk factors play a key role in disease pathophysiology. Integrating genetic and neuroimaging analyses enhances our understanding of disease mechanisms and supports advancements in precision medicine. © The Author(s) 2025.

The utilization of Data-Driven Machine Learning (DDML) models in the healthcare sector poses unique challenges due to the crucial nature of clinical decision-making and its impact on patient outcomes. A primary concern in this domain is the data quality that forms the basis for these models, which is essential for their effectiveness. While numerous studies are dedicated to leveraging Machine Learning (ML) to enhance patient care, a substantial gap exists in understanding and evaluating the quality of training data before training ML models. This issue is exacerbated by the lack of well-defined standards to ensure that data characteristics align with the specific goals of ML in healthcare. To address this, our study introduces a conceptual three-dimensional framework focusing on data accuracy, completeness, and consistency aimed at assessing and improving the quality of training data. This framework is designed to enhance the performance, predictability, and interpretability of healthcare-specific ML models and reduce biases, thus bridging current research gaps and laying the groundwork for future developments in ML-driven healthcare systems. This paper presents the initial step for our proposed Data Quality Framework (DQF), which addresses the three dimensions mentioned above. It discusses its potential implications and applications in healthcare data, and its main goal is to provide a comprehensive overview of the proposed DQF, illustrating its significance in advancing healthcare data quality and ultimately improving patient outcomes. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Chest X-ray (CXR) is a prominent and cost-effective medical imaging tool used in healthcare sectors. Coronavirus (COVID-19) has recently proliferated around the world, and different waves are returning, posing a serious threat to the global economy and health. Deep learning networks are being used to detect infected patients from CXR images, which is a huge step in making a prompt COVID-19 pre-diagnosis and reducing the workload of medical staff. However, in CXR images, there are complexity in structure and patterns of gray-scale distribution, as well as complex hemidiaphragm borders and details that might interfere with the machine ’s and doctor’s diagnosis. In particular, this paper developed a new multi-scale parallel CNN (called MSP-CNN) for denoising CXR images and a distinctive COVID-19 application that can improve image quality. The foundation of MSP-CNN is comprised of several fundamental parts are: (a) Extracting spatial information with a multi-scale feature extractor (b) Efficient Spatial Channel Attention(ESCA) without raising the network parameters, more attention to be paid to complex structures and hemidiaphragm edges in CXR images. Extensive testing has shown that our MSP-CNN is better at preserving complex structures of features in CXR images. Rigorous experiments also show that MSP-CNN has a positive influence on CXR image classification and COVID-19 case detection from denoised CXR images. It is envisioned that with reliable accuracy, this method can be introduced for clinical practices in the future. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Unsupervised Remote sensing change detection is very important because it addresses the problem of scarcity in the data availability in training. Some of the researchers are successful in finding the change regions but are not able to classify what changes happened in those regions. Nearly every study faces challenges in generalizing the fluctuations occurring during both the growing and non-growing seasons. The current study utilizes a novel architecture consisting of two parts. The first part involves proposing change regions through the change vector calculation method and applying Otsu's Thresholding on the calculated change vectors, while the second part entails classifying these proposed change regions into vegetation change, building change, and non-change regions. non-change region classification process aims to eliminate false changes identified by the change vector analysis and Otsu's Thresholding. In the second stage, NDVI, NDWI, and NDMI indices are compared and the resulting change mask obtained is subjected for element-wise multiplication operation with the change mask obtained in the first stage. The study addressed the challenge of generalizing short-term changes, such as those occurring during the growing and non-growing seasons, by computing the median of pixels over a time range encompassing both types of changes. Additionally, the method was fine-tuned using NIT Puducherry data from two time periods. Subsequently, the entire Karaikal district was considered to examine the changes comprehensively. The present study outperformed different state of the art methods like CVI_OTSU, PCI_Kmeans, Continuous Change Detection and Classification (CCDC). The present study got better results with an accuracy of 86.07 and kappa coefficient of 0.7898. © 2024 IEEE.

In recent years, social media has been widely explored as a potential source of communication and information in disasters and emergency situations. Several interesting works and case studies of disaster analytics exploring different aspects of natural disasters have been already conducted. Along with the great potential, disaster analytics comes with several challenges mainly due to the nature of social media content. In this paper, we explore one such challenge and propose a text classification framework to deal with Twitter noisy data. More specifically, we employed several transformers both individually and in combination, so as to differentiate between relevant and non-relevant Twitter posts, achieving the highest F1-score of 0.87. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors. Traffic prediction of wireless networks attracted many researchersand practitioners during the past decades. However, wireless traffic frequentlyexhibits strong nonlinearities and complicated patterns, which makes it challengingto be predicted accurately. Many of the existing approaches forpredicting wireless network traffic are unable to produce accurate predictionsbecause they lack the ability to describe the dynamic spatial-temporalcorrelations of wireless network traffic data. In this paper, we proposed anovel meta-heuristic optimization approach based on fitness grey wolf anddipper throated optimization algorithms for boosting the prediction accuracyof traffic volume. The proposed algorithm is employed to optimize the hyperparametersof long short-term memory (LSTM) network as an efficient timeseries modeling approach which is widely used in sequence prediction *** prove the superiority of the proposed algorithm, four other optimizationalgorithms were employed to optimize LSTM, and the results were *** evaluation results confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed approachin predicting the traffic of wireless networks accurately. On the other hand,a statistical analysis is performed to emphasize the stability of the proposedapproach.

Determining the critical factors affecting antenatal visits will greatly contribute to reducing maternal and infant mortality. This study, thus attempted to construct a cluster-based predictive model to determine the critical factors of antenatal care follow-up among women in Ethiopia using two-step machine learning techniques. The 5,990 preprocessed obstetric dataset with 13 selected attributes were used that was collected from the Dabat Research Center at the University of Gondar, Ethiopia. To solve the study problem, six cluster models were developed using K-means, Expectation Maximization and Make Density clustering algorithms, which are well-suited for analyzing health datasets, providing scalability, flexibility, robustness to noise, and the ability to handle uneven cluster sizes. K-means out-formers Density based and Expectation Maximization clustering algorithms with minimum number of sum of square errors (17094) and number of iteration (3). Then, output of the K-means cluster model was used as input to segment the dataset and build a total of 21 predictive models using the tree-based J48 classifier, PART and JRip rule generators while adjusting their parameters. The model for predicting antenatal care follow-up is constructed by induction of the truncated PART rule (accuracy of 99.93%) and extracts attributes of interest such as antenatal care attendance, antenatal care location, antenatal care frequency, current vaccination, woman's age, and HIV testing to predict antenatal care follow-up in the study area. © 2024 IEEE.
