Current rumor detection methods based on propagation structure learning predominately treat rumor detection as a class-balanced classification task on limited labeled data. However, real-world social media data exhibits an imbalanced distribution with a minority of rumors among massive regular posts. To address the data scarcity and imbalance issues, we construct two large-scale conversation datasets from Weibo and Twitter and analyze the domain distributions. We find obvious differences between rumor and non-rumor distributions, with non-rumors mostly in entertainment domains while rumors concentrate in news, indicating the conformity of rumor detection to an anomaly detection paradigm. Correspondingly, we propose the Anomaly Detection framework with Graph Supervised Contrastive Learning (AD-GSCL). It heuristically treats unlabeled data as non-rumors and adapts graph contrastive learning for rumor detection. Extensive experiments demonstrate AD-GSCL's superiority under class-balanced, imbalanced, and few-shot conditions. Our findings provide valuable insights for real-world rumor detection featuring imbalanced data distributions. © 2025 Association for Computational Linguistics.

A polyhedral reconstruction of a 3D object from a chain code and a low-density point cloud

The manipulation of 3D objects is becoming crucial for many applications, such as health, industry, or entertainment, to mention some. However, these 3D objects require substantial energy and different types of resources. With the goal of obtaining a simplified representation of a 3D object that can be easily managed, for example, for transmission, in some recent works, the authors associate low-density point clouds with a 3D object that simplifies the original 3D object. More precisely, given a 3D object in a polyhedral format, some authors associate a chain code and then use grammar-free context to obtain key points that give rise to several point clouds with different densities. In this work, we complete the cycle by developing a polyhedral reconstruction from an associated low-density point cloud and the chain code. The polyhedral reconstruction is crucial for handling 3D objects because it allows us to visualize them after they are efficiently compressed and transmitted. We apply our algorithms to well-known 3D objects in the literature. We use the Hausdorff and Chamfer distances to compare our results with the state-of-the-art proposals. We show how our proposed polyhedral reconstruction based on a helical chain code reconstructs a medical image represented or transmitted by slices into a 3D object in a polyhedral format, helping thus to mitigate and alleviate the management of 3D medical objects. The polyhedron that we propose provides better compression when compared with the original set of slices of a 3D medical object. © The Author(s) 2025.

This paper explores the potential of low-cost sensing technologies for assessing the condition of cycling track pavement. As cycling gains popularity, the demand for efficient pavement maintenance solutions increases. Machine survey-based pavement condition assessment often relies on expensive, specialized equipment, which is not always suitable for cycle tracks due to limited budgets and accessibility, hence the need for low-cost solutions. The integration of low-cost sensing technologies and data collection, such as inertial measurement units (IMUs), low-cost imaging sensors, and crowdsourced data collection, presents a promising alternative for cycle track pavement surface assessment. This paper highlights the advantages of employing out-of-the-shelf devices such as smartphones with GPS, cameras, and IMU, or action cameras with GPS and IMU to collect images, their location, and vehicle vibration in a specific orientation. This data is then used to estimate pavement roughness, detect surface distress, and compute pavement surface condition. Literature reviews reveal a significant gap in the utilization of these technologies for cycle tracks, suggesting a promising area for further research and application. Furthermore, it proposes a software framework for data collection and visualization to combine these technologies to enhance the efficiency and reliability of pavement assessment for cycling infrastructure at a lower cost than machine-based pavement assessment and faster and more quantitative than manual surveys. This paper emphasizes the need for more practical and scalable solutions that support the maintenance of sustainable transportation systems. Fueled by advancements in intelligent transportation systems, the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) seeks to connect smart vehicles, road infrastructure, and users into a unified network, enhancing traffic efficiency and reducing accident risks. Centralized cloud data collection raises concerns about privacy and communication overhead. To address these, distributed edge intelligence (DEI) reduces transmission costs and improves privacy by implementing machine learning at the network edge. In this context, cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC) systems, combined with DEI in the IoV framework, enhance transportation system intelligence through real-time data processing and decentralized decision making. This article proposes a modeling and analysis method for CACC systems based on Petri nets. The datasets are automatically generated using tools developed by our team, and machine-learning methods are utilized to perform risk prediction analysis on the CACC model. From the perspective of Petri nets synchronization, we propose risk mitigation strategies from a design standpoint. The research results show that the proposed method significantly reduces signal accumulation and enhances synchronization in CACC systems. This improvement provides new theoretical support and technical guidance for the design and implementation of CACC systems, ultimately enhancing their safety and reliability. © 2014 IEEE.

The proliferation of privacy-sensitive data has spurred the development of federated learning (FL), which is an important technology for state-of-the-art machine learning and responsible AI. However, most existing FL methods are constrained in their applicability and generalizability due to their narrow focus on specific tasks. This article presents a novel federated multitask learning (FMTL) framework that is capable of acquiring knowledge across multiple tasks. To address the challenges posed by non-IID data and task imbalance in FMTL, this study proposes a federated fusion strategy based on dynamic guided attention (FedDGA), which adaptively fine-tunes local models for multiple tasks with personalized attention. In addition, this article designed dynamic batch weight (DBW) to balance the task losses and improve the convergence speed. Extensive experiments were conducted on various datasets, tasks, and settings, and the proposed method was compared with state-of-the-art methods such as FedAvg, FedProx, and SCAFFOLD. The results show that our method achieves significant performance gains, with up to 11.1% increase in accuracy over the baselines. © 2020 IEEE.

Knowledge graphs (KGs) provide a structured representation of the real world through entity-relation triples. However, current KGs are often incomplete, typically containing only a small fraction of all possible facts. This involves inferring missing content from existing information, a task known as link prediction. Existing methods in the field of link prediction struggle with controlling the dimensionality of embedding vectors or suffer from overly complex models. In order to tackle these challenges, we introduce a method in this paper, named Low-Dimensional Embedding Method for Link Prediction Combining Self-Attention and Enhanced-TuckER (LESaET). LESaET leverages both self-attention mechanisms and tensor factorization to learn expressive contextual-enhanced representations of KGs. Specifically, LESaET employs the multi-head self-attention mechanism of Transformer as an encoder to capture the mutual information between entities and relationships, and utilizes Enhanced-TuckER as a decoder, ultimately achieving expressive low-dimensional embeddings for link prediction tasks. LESaET demonstrates competitive performance compared to advanced methods on standard datasets. © 2024 IEEE.

This research elaborates a melody synthesis model utilizing a Modified Long Short-Term Memory (mLSTM) neural network, trained on Kern dataset, preprocessed into Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) files. After receiving a seed melody as input 01, the model predicts the note that will come next by looking at the notes that have come before it. The model can learn the structures and patterns seen in classical music by using MIDI files as the training dataset. Categorical cross-entropy loss function is used to train the model over several epochs with early halting. To regulate how random the predictions are, the model makes use of a temperature parameter. The assessment demonstrates that the produced tunes have a variety of traits and are aesthetically pleasing to human ears. To justify the performance of the proposed method some criteria were considered and expert evaluation was done. The evaluation shows that the model has generated the melodies that are pleasing to the ear and have a similar structure to the training dataset. Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) are wireless networks that are self-configuring, infrastructure-less, and dynamic. The nodes in these networks have limited access to available resources. MANETs use intrusion detection systems, also known as IDS, to monitor activities in order to identify any potential intrusions into the network, which would otherwise be vulnerable. In this study, we offer efficient techniques for maximizing the length of time that intrusion detection systems need to be active in a mobile ad hoc network and monitoring how much time they need to be active for. The dissemination of a probabilistic model that makes use of neighborhood node IDS collaboration in order to reduce the amount of individual active time. In order to monitor network activities, an IDS often needs to be running nonstop on every node. In terms of electricity and processing resources, this could end up being a costly overhead for a mobile device that runs on batteries. We therefore want to shorten the IDSs' active time in this work without sacrificing their effectiveness. We simulate the interactions between IDSs as a multiplayer cooperative game with partially cooperative and partially opposing aims in order to validate our suggested methodology. We investigate this game theoretically and provide evidence from simulations. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, based on compressed sensing and neural networks, we present an intelligent sparse channel estimation technique for Massive MIMO systems. We show that our approach improves considerably the estimation accuracy in terms of Mean Squared Error (MSE) and Normalized Mean Squared Error (NMSE) with respect to classical methods. We demonstrate [Figure: ] that our approach is computationally more efficient, requires less time and resources (memory/disk) compared to the existing literature but for a robustness of performance across distal or low Signal-to-Noise Ratios (SNRs). We also confirm our method exhibits fast convergence and efficiently accommodates a variety of sparsity levels. By visualizing it using heatmaps and ROC curves we show that this method is able to effectively differentiate between signal and noise, asserting our approach as a powerful tool for the contemporary set of problems present in wireless communications. © 2024 IEEE.
