Infiltrative nature of lesions is a significant feature of malignant breast lesion in ultrasound images. Characterizing infiltrative nature is crucial for the realization of computer-aided diagnosis system. In this study, the infiltrative nature is regarded as an energy that produces irregularly and considerably local variances in a 1D signal. The local variances can be enhanced by few high octave energies in 1D discrete periodized wavelet transform (DPWT). A test dataset of breast sonograms with the lesion contour delineated by an experienced physician and two inexperienced students are built for feature efficacy evaluation. A high individual performance result implies that the proposed feature is well correlated with radiologist's perception and closer to match those in trained physician than morphometric parameters. Experimental results also reveal that with a great performance improvement, the proposed feature is suitable for the combination with some morphometric parameters.

A fully integrated framework of full-chip power and substrate noise analysis is discussed, featuring description of transistor-level custom circuits as dynamic noise sources, a high capacity solver for chip-level substrate coupling, and noise back annotation flow to transistors of sensitive circuits. Recursive evaluation of power current and operation timing under the presence of dynamic IR drop greatly improves the accuracy of analysis. A 90-nm CMOS chip was examined both by on-chip noise measurements and full-chip noise analysis.

A Worst-Case Execution Time (WCET) analysis derives upper bounds for execution times of programs. Such bounds are crucial when designing and verifying real-time systems. A major problem with todaypsilas WCET analysis approaches is that there is no feedback on the particular values of the input variables that cause the programpsilas WCET. However, this is important information for the real-time system *** present a novel approach to overcome this problem. In particular, we present a method, based on a combination of input sensitive static WCET analysis and systematic search over the value space of the input variables, to derive the input value combination that causes the WCET. We also present several different approaches to speed up the search. Our evaluations show that the WCET input values can be relatively quickly derived for many type of programs, even for program with large input value spaces. We also show that the WCET estimates derived using the WCET input values often are much tighter than the WCET estimates derived when all possible input value combinations are taken into account.

We consider the problem of tracking a mobile target using an energy constrained wireless sensor network. This paper develops and describes a methodology to track a mobile target that moves with varying speed and direction in a 2D plane. In this paper, we combine distance measurements from several sensors to estimate location of the target. Given that available energy in sensors is at a premium, we have proposed to reduce the number of measurements. We present a methodology to track the target using measurements from an adequate number of carefully selected sensors that measure distance and communicate to the tracker. In this paper, we present results of extensive simulations that we have carried out to test and validate the algorithms. We study through simulations how the frequency of measurements by sensors, velocity of the mobile target, the amount by which the target changes its direction of motion affect the accuracy of tracking.

This paper presents the issues encountered in the development of a robot based on the biometric influence of a bear. One of the main aims of this research was to explore the possibilities of a robot, which could move between the different styles of motion. The bear offers a unique example of an animal with high mass and bulk, which can move between being a quadruped and a biped. Our earlier research had explored the development of a robotic dog. A quadruped robot design, suitable for use as a player in the RoboCup Four Legged League, which used the parameters of the existing Sony Aibo robot as a starting point. The outcomes of this research have been discussed in papers by Chalup and Lawrence. The current research has extended the previous platform development and reset the objective to a robot with both bipedal and quadrupedal motion possibilities. The original objectives of developing a high quality design with enhanced research programming possibilities, which also coveys a positive and engaging image of science and engineering through its form, were maintained. This is specially so, when considering the robot's ability to create interest in the general public, who will view the robot from a perspective outside of discipline specific interests. The introduction presents the biological inspiration for the current design, including the preparation and material production considerations. This is followed by a discussion of specific features of the robotic bear design, which has been given the name HyKim, followed by a conclusion.

Nowadays, there is a little account of research which focuses on the theory and application of directed networks in the complex networks area. In this paper, a directed network model which describes the group personnel relationship is set up and simulated. Firstly, by analyzing the main workflow and the intercommunion way in the group, a directed network model which describes the group personnel relationship is set up. Then, with an e-mail directed network and a telephone directed network constructed, and by using the dyad method, an empirical social network model which correctly describes the group personnel relationship is set up. Finally, a simulation test is done. By comparing the group personnel relationship model and the empirical model, the simulation results in according with the empirical findings quit well.

There has been much recent interest in how to help students in higher education develop their generic skills, especially since this is a focus of the Bologna process that aims to standardize European higher education. However, even though the Master thesis is the final and often crucial part of a graduate degree and requires many generic skills very little research has directly focused on them. In particular, there is a lack of such knowledge for engineering education programs. In this paper we present results from a survey where we asked 23 students from three different Swedish Universities about which generic skills are needed and developed in a Master thesis project in software engineering. One outcome of our analysis is that there is a lack of understanding on how to define, and thus examine, generic skills in software engineering thesis projects.
