Accurately identifying fault sources in industrial systems is essential for ensuring system safety and optimizing performance. Due to cyclic loops, traditional Bayesian networks often encounter difficulties when dealing with complex systems, which can lead to misjudgments, especially in scenarios involving causal feedback. This paper proposes an improved method based on information flow, utilizing the Liang-Kleeman information flow theory to handle C-R structure cyclic loops within Bayesian networks. By quantifying the strength of causal relationships in cyclic loops, the method effectively identifies and eliminates the weakest causal link, transforming it into a temporal relationship and simplifying the structure into an acyclic form. Experiments were conducted on a C-R structure feedback system to validate the new method's performance under high-noise conditions. The results demonstrate that the process improves the accuracy of causal relationship identification and exhibits superior robustness in noisy environments, significantly enhancing fault diagnosis accuracy and real-time capabilities. This study provides novel solutions and tools for fault diagnosis in complex industrial systems. © 2024 IEEE.

We study the problem of finding the largest inscribed histogon and the smallest circumscribed histogon for a convex polygon. A histogon is an axis-aligned rectilinear polygon such that every horizontal edge has an integer length. Depending on whether the horizontal width of a histogon is predetermined or not, we consider four different versions of the problem and present exact algorithms. © 2022 Yeganeh Bahoo and Konstantinos Georgiou.

Augmented Reality in Human-Robot Interaction (AR-HRI) boosts user experience. The key challenge is refining interaction methods to minimize discomfort and enhance quality. This AR - HRI study uses Galvanic Skin Respons (GSR) to predict and improve user comfort. User studies tested interaction strategies in an AR environment. A machine learning model, developed from GSR data, predicted comfort levels and informed strategy changes. Comfort metrics were visualized every second using Hololens 2, creating an AR - HRI comfort system. The method improved user comfort, provided a new AR-HRI metric, and highlighted future research opportunities.

Vehicular communication is a key enabler in making Automated Vehicles (AVs) collaborate by sharing information, which complements on-board sensor information and facilitates precise vehicle control. This paper presents a tailored measurement campaign aimed at analyzing the performance of two vehicular communication technologies, namely IEEE 802.11p and LTE-V2X. Our study focuses on key metrics for cooperating AVs, such as end-To-end latency and packet delivery ratios. Additionally, we investigate the feasibility of channel coexistence, assessing the challenges associated with concurrent channel access. The results derived from field tests are correlated with simulations conducted on PLEXE and OpenCV2X, i.e., platforms used for simulating IEEE 802.11p and LTE-V2X, respectively. This combined methodology, comprising field tests and simulations, enables the attainment of replicable conclusions, which in turn enables better design choices. © 2024 IEEE.

The Android operating system released by Google in 2007 has experienced very significant development. In 2019, the number of Android application users reached 2.5 billion. One of the contributing factors is the nature of the android application, which is very flexible and easy to install. Users can download APK files on the internet. Generally, APK files are stored in archive format, so they are pretty easy to manage. However, APK files may be used to spread malware behind this convenience. This study aims to provide an overview of the process of planting malware/backdoor on Android applications and how to prevent it. This study initiated the injection of malicious code on five android applications, namely WhatsApp, Telegram, DroidCam, Fifa Mobile, and Tokopedia. According to the results, four applications were successfully injected, while one application failed. The failure most likely occurred as a result of the application's source code being obfuscated. Obfuscation is therefore strongly advised for Android applications to prevent code injection that could potentially lead to malware insertion. © 2023 IEEE.

design education has traditionally relied heavily on physical integration as it involves a lot of hands-on work, group critiques, and collaborative projects, but the COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally shifted the way teaching is done, which resulted in many institutions adapting to remote teaching and learning environments. This has created challenges for design educators who have had to find ways to evaluate students' progress in the absence of in-person interactions. In this paper, we are proposing a dashboard visualization approach that helps educators monitor the progression of the entire class of students using artificial intelligence (AI) by tracking a time-based evolution of a design statement. This approach uses various natural language processing (NLP) models to produce stock-like charts, which represent students' and student groups' progression through a series of divergence and convergence phases. These charts become a form of design artifact that allows educator(s) to gain a bird's-eye view of the class and react to groups that may require assistance;at the same time, it becomes a qualitative means of evaluation and comparison across students and groups. Toward the end, this paper also showcases a web-based platform that is publicly available using such methodology, a case study that applied so methodology and recommendations of future works possible. It is expected to deploy chatbots as sales assistants on e-commerce platforms soon. In recent years, the capabilities demonstrated by large language models (LLMs) indicate their suitability for this role. However, a dialogue process is not fully established. Most existing works concentrate on searching for ideal products, such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and product search. Many proposed methods rely on product reviews. However, in the case of some e-commerce platform products, valuable reviews are often lacking, rendering these approaches impractical. Thus, we studied how to assist users and select a set of candidate products. Accordingly, we simulated sales conversations based on the product features provided by the seller, using LLM and reliable content while addressing the cold-start problem. Specifically, we used product features to generate customer persona for user simulation. LLM was used to play the role of sales assistant in giving recommendations. The experimental results showed that practical conversation was created between customers and chatbots in Traditional Chinese. We consider the problem of safety verification and safety-aware controller synthesis for systems with sector bounded nonlinearities. We aim to keep the states of the system within a given safe set under potential actuator and sensor attacks. Specifically, we adopt the setup that a controller has already been designed to stabilize the plant. Using invariant sets and barrier certificate theory, we first give sufficient conditions to verify the safety of the closed-loop system under attacks. Furthermore, by using a subset of sensors that are assumed to be free of attacks, we provide a synthesis method for a secondary controller that enhances the safety of the system. The sufficient conditions to verify safety are derived using Lyapunov-based tools and the S-procedure. Using the projection lemma, the conditions are then formulated as linear matrix inequality (LMI) problems which can be solved efficiently. Lastly, our theoretical results are illustrated through numerical simulations. © 2025, CC BY.

Ensuring the moderation of hate speech and its targets emerges as a critical imperative within contemporary digital discourse. To facilitate this imperative, the shared task Multimodal Hate Speech Event Detection was organized in the sixth CASE workshop co-located at RANLP 2023. The shared task has two subtasks. The sub-task A required participants to pose hate speech detection as a binary problem i.e. they had to detect if the given text-embedded image had hate or not. Similarly, sub-task B required participants to identify the targets of the hate speech namely individual, community, and organization targets in text-embedded images. For both sub-tasks, the participants were ranked on the basis of the F1-score. The best F1-score in sub-task A and sub-task B were 85.65 and 76.34 respectively. Rethinking Cognition: Morphological Info-Computation and the Embodied Paradigm in Life and Artificial Intelligence

This study aims to place Lorenzo Magnani’s Eco-Cognitive Computationalism within the broader context of current work on information, computation, and cognition. Traditionally, cognition was believed to be exclusive to humans and a result of brain activity. However, recent studies reveal it as a fundamental characteristic of all life forms, ranging from single cells to complex multicellular organisms and their networks. Yet, the literature and general understanding of cognition still largely remain human-brain-focused, leading to conceptual gaps and incoherency. This paper presents a variety of computational (information processing) approaches, including an info-computational approach to cognition, where natural structures represent information and dynamical processes on natural structures are regarded as computation, relative to an observing cognizing agent. We model cognition as a web of concurrent morphological computations, driven by processes of self-assembly, self-organization, and autopoiesis across physical, chemical, and biological domains. We examine recent findings linking morphological computation, morphogenesis, agency, basal cognition, extended evolutionary synthesis, and active inference. We establish a connection to Magnani’s Eco-Cognitive Computationalism and the idea of computational domestication of ignorant entities. Novel theoretical and applied insights question the boundaries of conventional computational models of cognition. The traditional models prioritize symbolic processing and often neglect the inherent constraints and potentialities in the physical embodiment of agents on different levels of organization. Gaining a better info-computational grasp of cognitive embodiment is crucial for the advancement of fields such as biology, evolutionary studies, artificial intelligence, robotics, medicine, and more. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.
