Track correlation algorithm based on CNN-LSTM for swarm targets

The rapid development of unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) swarm, a new type of aerial threat target, has brought great pressure to the air defense early warning system. At present, most of the track correlation algorithms only use part of the target location, speed, and other information for *** this paper, the artificial neural network method is used to establish the corresponding intelligent track correlation model and method according to the characteristics of swarm ***, a route correlation method based on convolutional neural networks (CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM)Neural network is designed. In this model, the CNN is used to extract the formation characteristics of UAV swarm and the spatial position characteristics of single UAV track in the formation,while the LSTM is used to extract the time characteristics of UAV swarm. Experimental results show that compared with the traditional algorithms, the algorithm based on CNN-LSTM neural network can make full use of multiple feature information of the target, and has better robustness and accuracy for swarm targets.

Autonomous intersection management (AIM) presents significant challenges due to the complexity of real-world traffic scenarios and the reliance on a costly centralized server to manage and coordinate all vehicles simultaneously. In this work, we address the challenge of efficiently and safely navigating intersections using a Reinforcement Learning (RL). In this work, we proposed two autonomous intersection management algorithms based on (i) Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO), and (ii) Advantage Actor-Critic (A2C). We design a reward function to encourage the system to reduce collisions while maintaining high throughput. By training and testing these algorithms in complex traffic scenarios, we aim to identify which algorithm demonstrates better decision-making capabilities under different conditions. We evaluated performance across multiple metrics, including collision avoidance, safe and efficient travel speed, time to reach the destination, and reward functions. We have established a structured approach to help researchers make informed decisions regarding suitable algorithm selection. It provides a balanced comparison between the algorithms and suggests a recommendation system for intersection traffic environments, considering various performance metrics such as reward, collision, speed, and travel time. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Privacy-Preserving Human Activity Recognition System for Assisted Living Environments

Automatic human activity recognition has numerous applications, especially in elderly support and healthcare. Several approaches for human activity recognition (HAR) using a variety of sensors are available in literature. While such frameworks are effective, each has limitations related to privacy, convenience, cost, and performance. In this article, a robust framework for automatic human activity recognition is proposed that uses depth sensors that preserve privacy and are cost-effective. The depth sensors provide two data modalities, namely, depth maps and skeleton sequences, used together for activity recognition. Two novel descriptors, joint position descriptor based on the position of joints;and bone angle descriptor based on bone inclination, are generated from the skeleton sequence data. The descriptors convey both spatial and temporal information and are scale and view-point invariant. Depth video clips are used along with the descriptors to deal with the issue of noisy and missing skeleton sequences. The data modalities and descriptors are fused using a two-level fusion strategy for a multichannel convolutional neural network (CNN) framework. The proposed system is validated and shown to be superior to the existing state of the art through comparisons over four widely used public datasets. A computational complexity analysis of the system confirms its efficacy in real time. A prototypical implementation of the proposed system further validates its practicability. © 2020 IEEE.

Handwritten Digit Recognition (HDR) refers to the computer’ s ability to identify and categorize hand written digits from various sources into 10 predetermined categories, ranging from 0 to 9. The issue of digit recognition is significant and crucial. Due to variations in size, thickness, location, and orientation of manually written digits, several challenges need to be addressed in order to evaluate the problem of recognizing handwritten digits. The diversity and variety in the composition techniques of different persons also impact the pattern and appearance of the digits. It refers to the approach of recognizing and organizing written numbers. It offers a diverse array of uses, such as automated bank checks, postal addresses, and tax paperwork, among others. The objective of this research is to employ a classification system to accurately identify handwritten numerals. The consequences of the most widely employed deep learning algorithms, such as multilayered perceptron network, in conjunction with convolution neural networks, are being discussed. Comparison of five neural network classifier shows that accuracy up to 99% can be achieved only in few epochs of training with default configuration of hyper-parameters.

This study presents an overview on intelligent reflecting surface(IRS)-enabled sensing and communication for the forthcoming sixth-generation(6G) wireless networks, in which IRSs are strategically deployed to proactively reconfigure wireless environments to improve both sensing and communication(S&C) performance. First, we exploit a single IRS to enable wireless sensing in the base station's(BS's) non-line-of-sight(NLoS) area. In particular, we present three IRS-enabled NLoS target sensing architectures with fully-passive, semi-passive, and active IRSs, respectively. We compare their pros and cons by analyzing the fundamental sensing performance limits for target detection and parameter estimation. Next, we consider a single IRS to facilitate integrated sensing and communication(ISAC), in which the transmit signals at the BS are used for achieving both S&C functionalities, aided by the IRS through reflective beamforming. We present joint transmit signal and receiver processing designs for realizing efficient ISAC, and jointly optimize the transmit beamforming at the BS and reflective beamforming at the IRS to balance the fundamental performance tradeoff between S&C. Furthermore, we discuss multi-IRS networked ISAC, by particularly focusing on multi-IRS-enabled multi-link ISAC, multi-region ISAC, and ISAC signal routing, respectively. Finally, we highlight various promising research topics in this area to motivate future work.

Mutual Retinex: Combining Transformer and CNN for Image Enhancement

Images captured in low-light or underwater environments are often accompanied by significant degradation, which can negatively impact the quality and performance of downstream tasks. While convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and Transformer architectures have made significant progress in computer vision tasks, there are few efforts to harmonize them into a more concise framework for enhancing such images. To this end, this study proposes to aggregate the individual capability of self-attention (SA) and CNNs for accurate perturbation removal while preserving background contents. Based on this, we carry forward a Retinex-based framework, dubbed as Mutual Retinex, where a two-branch structure is designed to characterize the specific knowledge of reflectance and illumination components while removing the perturbation. To maximize its potential, Mutual Retinex is equipped with a new mutual learning mechanism, involving an elaborately designed mutual representation module (MRM). In MRM, the complementary information between reflectance and illumination components are encoded and used to refine each other. Through the complementary learning via the mutual representation, the enhanced results generated by our model exhibit superior color consistency and naturalness. Extensive experiments have shown the significant superiority of our mutual learning based method over thirteen competitors on the low-light task and ten methods on the underwater image enhancement task. In particular, our proposed Mutual Retinex respectively surpasses the state-of-the-art method MIRNet-v2 by 0.90 dB and 2.46 dB in PSNR on the LOL 1000 and FIVEK datasets, while with only 19.8% model parameters. © 2017 IEEE.

Dispersed Computing Resource Discovery Model and Algorithm for Polymorphic Migration Network Architecture

Dynamic resource discovery in a network of dispersed computing resources is an open problem. The establishment and maintenance of resource pool information are critical, which involves both the polymorphic migration of the network and the time and energy costs resulting from node selection and frequent interactions of information between nodes. The resource discovery problem for dispersed computing can be considered a dynamic multi-level decision problem. A bi-level programming model of dispersed computing resource discovery is developed, which is driven by time cost, energy consumption and accuracy of information acquisition. The upper-level model is to design a reasonable network structure of resource discovery, and the lower-level model is to explore an effective discovery mode. Complex network topology features are used for the first time to analyze the polymorphic migration characteristics of resource discovery networks. We propose an integrated calibration method for energy consumption parameters based on two discovery modes(i.e., agent mode and self-directed mode). A symmetric trust region based heuristic algorithm is proposed for solving the system model. The numerical simulation is performed in a dispersed computing network with multiple modes and topological states, which proves the feasibility of the model and the effectiveness of the algorithm.

American Sign Language (ASL) recognition aims to recognize hand gestures, and it is a crucial solution to communicating between the deaf community and hearing people. However, existing sign language recognition algorithms still have some drawbacks, such as difficulty recognizing hand movements and low recognition accuracy for most sign language recognition. A Modified Convolutional Neural Network (MCNN) deep residual 101 classifier-based American Sign Language identification system has been developed to address this problem. There are three main parts presents in the method. The first part is pre-processing the images to remove the noise, enhance the contrast of the picture, adjust the contrast level and smoothen the picture using various filters. The second part is the segmentation, and it’s used to partition the image using a modified canny edge detection method by removing all weak edges present in the image. Finally, classification will be done using the Modified CNN deep residual 101 classifiers. By classifying the image, the American Sign Language is accurately identified. This process is conducted through images. The outcome shows that the suggested approach has a 0.97% accuracy and a 0.05% False Positive Rate. Other CNN architectures such as resNet 50 and resNet 18 reached 0.90% and 0.80% accuracy, respectively, which is lower than our proposed method. In addition, the resNet 101 classifier effectively recognizes the difficult hand gestures through the image data. It obtains high recognition accuracy for 36 signs is 0 to 9 numbers and a to z alphabets from American Sign Language. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.
